An Evening Of Worship

Recalibrate.

Renew.

Refresh.

Three things my heart could use.

I’m so excited that this Tuesday, September 27th is our next Worship Night at Cross Point.  It starts at 7:00 PM at our Nashville campus, but get there early for a seat (doors open at 6:30 PM).

I’m so looking forward to an incredible night with you guys. There’s something special about getting together with no other agenda then celebrating God for being God.  Hope to see you there!

Here’s a little taste of our last one.

Worship Night

Wednesday night we hosted our first ever Worship Night at Cross Point. What an amazing night! I was so proud of our entire creative team for gathering our church for one of the most important things we could be doing as a body, praising our amazing God.

I loved the purpose of this event as described by Matt Warren, our music/technical director, on his blog. He wrote,

Sunday mornings shouldn’t be spiritual Exxon stations. If you stumble in the door on “E” and leave with a full tank that’s great. But, if you consistently ride in on fumes, you’re headed for a spiritual roller coaster. We’ve got to find ways to connect all the time.

I understand everyone doesn’t connect through music, but some people feel closest to God in song. For that reason we wanted to have a night where instead of a 20 minute sample, we offer an event where people can connect in a big way.

We’ve never done an event like this before. It’s an entirely new arena, and that’s exciting. Nashville is a city filled with some of the craftiest song writers, most gifted musicians, and cutting edge producers, and for the most part, we follow worship trends – we don’t drive them. I think this city is primed to create the next movement of God through music. But that movement has to have a start. For Cross Point this is where we start. We’re ready to pull out all of the stops to start this off with a bang.

Thanks to Brittany Steiger for taking these amazing photos.

Filling Up My Bucket

image

For years now I’ve pictured my heart as a bucket. As I go through life and interact with people and certain circumstances I seem to pour a little of my heart out. Over time I notice that my bucket, or my heart, seems to get a little empty.

I become….

short with people
judgmental
hurried
impatient

There are various spiritual practices I’ve developed to help me fill my bucket. One of those is worship.

Some of my sweetest moments of worship are in the car. I turn up a worship song, open my heart and mind to God and allow him to fill up my heart with His truth, love and grace. It’s essential for me if I want to be the man I believe God has called me to be.

Over the years God has used Hillsong’s worship to fill my heart again and again and again. Faith+Hope+Love, Hillsong’s latest live worship album, releases NEXT TUESDAY. Every track on the album has been filling up my bucket the last few weeks and I know it will do the same for you.

As a gift to you today, here’s your chance to slow down and allow God to speak to you. Take a minute and enjoy the world premiere of “We Will See Him” off of Hillsong’s new album.

His Shaping Presence

C.S. Lewis once said…

It is in the process of being worshipped that God communicates His presence to men.

The past few weeks have been full of some of the most incredible worship experiences of my life. Each one has shaped me in a different way showing me a different aspect of God.

A couple weeks ago I was sitting in Calcutta among some of the most poverty stricken kids I’ve ever met when we had a spontaneous moment of worship led by Shaun and Keely.

Last week I was in the Dominican Republic experiencing worship in 4 different languages surrounded by some of the most self-sacrificing pastors from the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Then on Sunday, Jarrod, who I think is one of the most gifted worship leaders I’ve ever seen, led our Cross Point Nashville campus in amazing worship.

Each moment was…

beautiful

moving

transformational

Maybe this is just a slice of what worship in heaven will be like.

This Is MY Kind Of Worship!

I saw this on my new friend, Dave Shaw’s blog. I love it. Could this be coming to Cross Point soon?

Thumbs up or down?

Follow Up To “It’s All About Me”

I had lunch earlier this week with Chris Nichols. Chris is a good friend that I met here at Cross Point. We don’t get to spend a ton of time together, but when we get the opportunity I always leave feeling as if he has breathed new life into me.

Chris manages some great artists like Starfield and Jeff Deyo. He sent me a link to a series of pod-casts that Jeff is doing and I thought it was a perfect follow up to my earlier post. If you teach or lead worship you should grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and invest the next ten minutes in watching this.

Trying to become a better worshiper,

Pete

It’s all about me…right?

I saw this video yesterday and couldn’t stop laughing. Then, when the reality hit that I have often made worship “all about me,” I wanted to cry.

I can’t tell you how blessed we are at Cross Point Nashville to have a gifted worship leader such as Jarrod Morris. Jarrod and his entire team, including all of our volunteer worship leaders, do an amazing job of disappearing on stage and putting the focus where it needs to be. I love working with Jarrod. His humble spirit and desire to lead people into God’s presence are inspiring to me.

How are you keeping your worship from becoming about you?

Pete
