Lights… Camera… Action

So, yesterday we started filming the footage for the video curriculum for my next book, Empty Promises.

The book doesn’t come out until next Spring, but the videos and the participants guides will come out at the same time so we’re in full production mode.

We’ll be working hard shooting through late Friday night and here’s where I need your help.

We’re looking for 50 extras to help out Friday night. This is your chance to be recognized by Hollywood and become a video star!! Okay, maybe not, but we’ll have a blast, make some new friends and it would mean the world to  me to have you be a part of this new project.

Here are the specifics the producer and director are looking for…

We need 50+ Extra’s (Both Male + Female) in the 20′s – 30′s Age Range (must be 18+)
Wardrobe: ‘Club Attire’ of the nicer/more up-scale. Dressed up as in ‘ready to party’. Think LA/NYC nightlife.
Call time: 8:00 pm (we’ll be shooting until close to 1am)
Location: Houston Station, Nashville TN

I know a pastor inviting you to a club late on a Friday night and asking you to wear “club attire” sounds a bit sketchy. You’ll just have to trust me on this one. I’m PRETTY SURE it’s above board. :)

If you’re interested please email Evie at evie@crosspoint.tv. Please don’t just show up or leave a comment. You really need to shoot her an email to make it legit.

Thanks guys.

Ripoff

The great thing about having friends who blog over to your house is there’s a decent chance something will happen that they’ll blog. And when they do blog whatever happens you can steal it, saving yourself from actually writing a blog post.

If your friend has a camera this “ripoff” will be even easier. Add in a chipmunk and a bunch of kids and you have a fantastic Memorial Day post.

Hope everyone has an amazing Memorial Day today. To the families of the 1.3 million Americans who have given their lives in battle, we honor you, your loved ones and the great sacrifice they’ve made for this amazing country.

And I almost forgot. Thank you Los for the amazing video. Keep cranking these out and I’ll keep inviting you over. :)

Just In Case

So it’s all out now. Back in July I got a call at home from Taylor asking if we would let the boys come up and shoot her new video with her. I thought about it for about half a second and of course we cleared our schedule so they could have this once in a lifetime opportunity.

While we were up there they made a last second call on the set and asked Brandi and I if we would jump in and play Taylor’s parents in the flashback scene to when she was a little girl. We agreed. Who knew we would be seen fighting in over 160 countries. :)

Oh, how I enjoy this crazy ride called “life” God’s put us on.

Just in case you missed it….

Stupid Awesome

This is stupid awesome.

How would you have liked to sit in on this brainstorming session?

Susan Boyle Taught Me an Important Lesson

I don’t know if you guys have heard the story of Susan Boyle yet but I can’t get her off my mind. My friend Harold sent me her story yesterday. On Saturday night the middle aged, never been kissed, church volunteer who still lives with her parents appeared on the TV show Britain’s Got Talent. Here’s how one newspaper reported the story…

The moment the reality show’s audience and judging panel saw the small, shy, middle-aged woman, they started to smirk. When she said she wanted a professional singing career to equal that of Elaine Paige, the camera showed audience members rolling their eyes in disbelief. They scoffed when she told Simon Cowell, one of the judges, how she’d reached her forties without managing to develop a singing career because she hadn’t had the opportunity. Another judge, Piers Morgan, later wrote on his blog that, just before she launched into I Dreamed a Dream, the 3000-strong audience in Glasgow was laughing and the three judges were suppressing chuckles.

It was rude and cruel and arrogant. Susan Boyle from Blackburn, West Lothian, was presumed to be a buffoon (Click here for entire article).

But what happened next took the judges and the entire audience by surprise.

Bottom line: In our world today we think only the pretty can be succesful. We think respect and honor should be reserved for those who look and act a certain way.

Too bad this mentality is not only limited to the corporate world, the runway, and reality TV.  The problem is this attitude is prevalent in the church.

Shame on me! Shame on you! Shame on the church!

I pastor what some would call a “pretty” church. It’s full of a lot of good looking artists, sharp dressed young professionals, and young 20 somethings wearing the latest fashions. However, there is also a vast array of individuals who might be considered by worldly standards to be quite “average” sprinkled throughout the congregation every weekend.

I got nauseous watching this video wondering how many Susan Boyle’s come in and out of Cross Point each week unnoticed, unloved and undiscovered. How many of them have beautiful spiritual gifts designed for the body of Christ we’re totally missing because we think the body of Christ has a certain “look” or “image” to it?

How many of them are just waiting to be noticed, waiting for someone to believe in them and waiting for someone to look beyond their outer image to their inner beauty?

Come on church. We can do better!

What do you learn from the story of Susan Boyle?
