Keep On, Keeping On

I know there are a lot of church planters, pastors, and volunteers who read this blog. I know that many of you are in situations where you’re setting up and taking down church each week. For the first 4 years of Cross Point we were doing four services in an elementary school which forced us to set up and take down each Sunday. It was exhausting to say the least.

With that in mind I thought you might need a little reminder today that what you do really matters!!

This is part of a post recently written by Tam Hodge, the wife of Brent Hodge whose the pastor of our Cross Point Hendersonville campus.

I know there are many who serve in this capacity with churches who set up and tear down every week. It can get tiresome. It can become very frustrating. In fact, you may have grown resentful. But let me offer you a word of encouragement…

You are not just getting up early – You are going before those who will show up for the first time to meet their Savior.

You are not just breaking a sweat – You are sweating in thanks to the One who purposed you to tell the nations.

You are not just setting up 150 chairs – You are providing a place for the wounded to come and sit in the lap of their Healer.

You are not “doing church” – You are creating an experience.

You are not clocking in and out – You are investing in lives!

For every chair you set out…For every crayon you put in a basket…For every coffee creamer you place in a bowl…For every cable you run across a gym floor to an amp…For every sign you hang…For each and everything your hands commit to you are creating an experience for those to come. You are creating an atmosphere for others to come into and rest. A place for God’s people to enter into to find hope, encouragement, friendship, counsel, healing…life. A safe place for others to meet God.

I know this is hard work. I am exhausted from serving today. I feel like I’ve done a months worth of P90X. And every single second of it is worth it. None of this is about us. It is about God and the ones He sent his son to love on.

So whether you hold babies, set up chairs, turn knobs on the sound board, preach you heart out, hand out programs or count the money in the back room please know that what you do REALLY MATTERS.

Keep it up!

Where do you serve in your local church?

I Refuse

The uber-talented Josh Wilson has a new single coming out called “I Refuse.”

The video features Cross Point’s volunteers out serving the community during the flood.

Thought it was fitting to post this today as hundreds of Cross Point volunteers are once again giving up another Saturday to serve those impacted by the flood.

It’s been one of the greatest honors of my life to watch this 1,000 year flood become a 1,000 year opportunity for the body of Christ to show the glory of God.

Sausage Biscuits

There are times I’m so proud of people in our church I just can’t stand it. Thursday morning was one of those times.

We really believe…

Everyone’s welcome, nobody’s perfect, and anything’s possible.

Do you?

Cross Point Campuses Partner

I’m so proud of the mission trip Ryan Bult led this past weekend. Ryan took a Cross Point missions team that consisted of people from both the Nashville and Dickson campuses. This is the first time both campuses have partnered together to serve and it was awesome. Further proof that Cross Point is ONE CHURCH that happens to meet in two locations.

These individuals took off for a weekend mission trip to Wheelright, KY. While there, they helped serve some local families by doing home renovations and making improvements to the ministry center there.

I’m so proud of both campuses for getting out there and serving in this way!

Sleep in Sunday Morning (really)

This Sunday night at Cross Point we are launching a third service at 6:00 p.m. We really need this service right now. Making more room for our 11:00 a.m. service is crucial. So if you’re out of town until Sunday afternoon or if you would just enjoy sleeping in, then this might be the service for you!

Launching a new service in many ways is like launching a church. All of the sudden we need a whole new wave of volunteers to step up. Two of the areas that require the largest number of volunteers would be Kidz World and First Impressions. If you’re interested in serving Sunday nights at 6:00 or just want more information, then send an e-mail here and we’ll get you started.

There has already been an amazing response from people at Cross Point who are willing to make whatever sacrifices they need to make to help Cross Point become a community that is radically devoted to Christ, irrevocably committed to one another and relentlessly dedicated to reaching the lost. Most of our production team, worship band, and singers have agreed to serve in ALL 3 SERVICES. That makes for a long day (around 13 hours) so if you see them, give them a hug and an extra cup of coffee.

Hoping to see you Sunday night,

Pete

Change a Life!

I was so impressed with the number of you that showed interest last week in adopting a lunch buddy through the Preston Taylor Ministries.  You have the opportunity to change their life, and I guarantee it will change yours. There are still several kids that really need an adult that will take the time to invest in their life. Let me introduce you to Demari and Atonio below.  If you’re interested in joining this awesome program, just e-mail me at pete@crosspoint.tv .

 Demaria

Demari is eight years old and is a second grade student. He enjoys playing games and soccer and watching television. He told me that he “wants a lunch buddy so he’ll have someone to talk to.”

 Antonio

Antonio is seven years old and a second grader. His favorite color is red, and he likes football, basketball, and dirt bikes.

Matthew 10:42

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones becuase he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.”
