This Is How We Grow

tomato-plant

I always learn such incredible spiritual lessons from my kids. My 6 year-old, Gage, spent the afternoon yesterday with his Nonni planting tomato plants. I heard he prayed for each plant after putting it in the ground.

So I asked him, “Gage, why did you pray for the tomato plants?” He said, “Well, Dad, that’s how they grow.”

My son sees what I sometimes forget. Nothing happens apart from the power of God.

At the end of day 2 of flood relief I’m tired. Our team is tired. The constant adrenaline of being on the front lines of ministry can simply drain you. The more tired I get the more I start to question….

Have we taken on too much?

Do we have a clue what we’re doing?

How are we going to keep up this pace?

Can we really make a difference with all this devastation?

We’re now being told this is a one thousand year flood. This is quite possibly the biggest tragedy Cross Point, or Nashville for that matter, will face in our lifetime. God has positioned us and called us to be a bright light in the midst of the darkness.

As I drifted to sleep last night I was simply praying, “God empower us. God equips us. God fill us with your unfathomable grace, love and hope.”

Why?

Because this is how we grow. Nothing happens apart from the power of God.

How can we pray for you today?

Plan B Releases Today!

Never in a million years did I think my new book Plan B would release nationally on the day we were in the middle of one of the biggest “Plan B’s” the city of Nashville has ever seen.

Doesn’t seem appropriate to really celebrate today but didn’t want the day to go by without thanking all of you for your love and support through this process. Thank you so much for the kind words, the notes, the twitters and the blog posts. They mean more to me then you’ll ever know!

One of our team members sent me this picture from inside one of the flooded homes they were in yesterday. Oh the irony!

Day 1 of Nashville Flood Relief

I’ve never been more proud of Cross Point then I was today. I couldn’t believe the number of volunteers who showed up throughout the day at our Cross Point Bellevue Campus (which is now our flood headquarters) to help serve our community.

The flooding is widespread and worse than I could have ever imagined. Their calling this the 500 year flood.  It’s hard to imagine the amount of work we have ahead of us but I’m so excited to get back at it tomorrow. This is church!!! Also so proud of the number of churches around the country who are either sending people or money! I love it when the body of Christ acts like the body of Christ.

If you’re in Nashville you can meet us at 9:00 am at the Bellevue Campus at 7669 Hwy. 70 South, Nash,TN 37221 and we’ll start reassigning projects. If you can’t make it at 9:00 then just come on out whenever you can. WE NEED YOU! If you can take a day off, take a day off. If you want to bring something with you bring hammers, crowbars, trash bags, gloves, boxes, etc.

If you’re not in Nashville the best way you can help is through donations. The clean up efforts will be costly and as many as 90% of the people impacted in Nashville do not have flood insurance. We need your help. You can make a donation to our Flood Fund HERE!

Here’s are few photos I grabbed today and a quick video I shot on a boat tour of the remote flooding.

Thanks for all your prayers guys!!

Nashville Flood Relief

If you’ve been watching the news you probably have a pretty good idea of the devastating floods we’ve experienced here in Nashville over the weekend. I’ve been here my whole life and I’ve never seen anything like this!! There are entire subdivisions submerged underwater. Check out this video CNN showed that illustrates the power of this Nashville Flood.

We literally have dozens of families in our church who either have lost or are dangerously close to losing everything and hundreds more who are going to have serious damage from these devastating floods.

We’ve closed all of our Cross Point offices for tomorrow and are encouraging our staff to help with local flood relief.

If you can make it please feel free to join us. We’re going to meet at the Bellevue Campus at 10 AM to divide into teams and start helping with clean up.

If you can make it please bring a broom, shovel or anything else you can think of that might be helpful in our clean up efforts.

For those of you around the country who have asked how you might help we’ve set up a special FLOOD FUND where you or your church can make a donation. Many of our families who are losing everything DO NOT have flood insurance. Any donation will be extremely helpful as we try to help our families put their lives back together.
