You Did It Again!

My prayer 7 years ago when we launched  Cross Point Church was that our church would make a real difference in its community. I prayed we would care just as much about what’s going on outside our four walls as within.

Early Monday morning there was a horrible fire here in Nashville which destroyed several units,  and affected about 20 residents at the Mission Bellevue Ridge Apartments. These apartments are only minutes from our Cross Point Bellevue campus which launches this Spring.

Last night while watching the local news I heard a story about how a local group was trying to help the families, many of which had lost everything. I thought to myself, what an awesome way to reach out in the midst of this crisis. Then I heard the reporter say that a mom’s small group from Cross Point Church was responsible for collecting items for the family (CLICK HERE to watch the video).

This is a CP community group at its best. Not just studying the Gospel together but actually living it out!!

The reporter went on to say that the Cross Point Bellevue campus (the old Circuit City building) was now being used as the drop off/collection center for items being donated to these families.

I love it. The Cross Point Bellevue campus reaching its community before it even launches. Now that’s the church being the church! This community of believers never ceases to amaze me. You did it again and I’m so proud of you guys.

50,000 in 50 days?

The 50,000 Pairs in 50 Days Challenge

I get hit up on a pretty regular basis to support a lot of good causes. I wish I could support ALL of them but here’s one I think just about anyone can and should support. Here’s three reasons…

1) It’s easy

2) You can afford to.

3) It’s the right thing to do.

A company located just outside of Nashville called  Soles4Souls is launching a campaign to have 50,000 pairs of shoes donated in 50 days! All someone needs to do is make a $5 donation which buys TWO PAIRS of shoes! Go to 50000shoes.com to donate $5!

Help out the 300 million children worldwide that do not have one pair of shoes!

We can do no great things, only small things with great love.  ~Mother Teresa

Dear Pete

Dear Pete,

I know this poverty is hard to see. Imagine how I must feel not only seeing it in that one location but seeing it across the world at all times. Imagine how I feel as I look down not on strangers but individuals I have created to reflect my glory that are living in such conditions. It’s heart breaking.

You ask why. I think you know why. If you dig deeper you will find that what you’re really asking is why aren’t you doing more. Why aren’t you using the influence I’ve given you to more effectively stomp out such poverty? Why aren’t you using your resources more generously to put a dent in this epidemic problem?

Pete, just be my hands and feet. Love as I have loved. Give as I have given. For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’ (Duet 15:11)

In Kindness,

God

Living in 180 Square Feet

This week I’ve gotten several questions from you guys about how a typical Dominican family lives. Here’s a quick video that will give you an idea of what it’s like. Sorry for the rough camera work. I’m a pastor not a cameraman.

Chicken, Chicken, and More Chicken

In case those of you back home wonder what we eat while visiting with our sister church in the D.R.. Here you go…

Yes. Every day. Several times a day.

If you had to eat the same meal every day for a week what would it be?

A Long day

Today was a long day but I was so PROUD of the team. They worked REALLY hard. We tied re-bar, carried almost 400 hundred buckets of sand to the second floor along with a couple hundred buckets of water so we could mix concrete.

The church is looking great. The walls of the second floor are almost complete!

Days like this make me so THANKFUL for all of you back home at Cross Point who have never been here but have faithfully given for years to make the church here a reality. You guys are the best.

To all of you with family members here, you will be glad to know there were few, if any, significant injuries today. Just a few cuts and bruises.

Getting ready to eat some chicken and rice and then go get some ice cream!!

From Dickson To Honduras

Last week a group of seven from our Cross Point Dickson campus visited Honduras: Walter Stephens, David Faulks, David Ford, Millie Ham, Cindy Pulse, Sara Stephens, and Erin Stephens.

The group was on a medical mission trip where they dispensed about $5000 worth of medicine. They also saw over 1,000 different patients!

Here are a few pictures they took. For more details, you can CLICK HERE and read Chad Robert’s blog, he’s the Dickson campus pastor.
