Regarding Regret

I read the other day that love is the most commonly expressed emotion in the context of daily conversations.

That makes sense to me.

However, the second most expressed emotion in conversation caught me a bit by surprise. It was regret.

I wish I had saved that money instead of buying that car.

I wish I had asked her out.

I wish I hadn’t asked her out.

I wish I had applied for that job.

I wish I had taken that risk.

Most of the regret I’ve accumulated in my life is directly connected to these three words: LACK OF FAITH.

With this in mind we’ve launched a new series at Cross Point entitled, “More.”

Here’s the amazing series opener. Hats off to Stephen and Matt and the tons of volunteers who helped us out on this one (I’m amazed at the number of Cross Point volunteers you can get to show up downtown at 3 am).

If you’re not in the area you can hang out with us during this series online.

Oh, I almost forgot. I told you the inspiration behind yesterday’s message was my friend, Pastor Steven Furtick’s book “Sun Stand Still.” We sold out of copies yesterday and we’ll get more, but if you don’t want to wait you can pick up a copy HERE

Let’s make 2011 a year we start chipping away at that mountain of regret.

Plan B Video Shoot

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to collaborate with some crazy talented people as we shot the promo video for my new book, Plan B (you can now pre-order HERE on Amazon, but please feel no pressure, I’ve just poured the last year of my life into it).

We’ll hopefully have a website with the video up before long, but I thought I would share a few photos from the shoot.

Special thanks to Matt Singleton, who I think is one of the most brilliant video directors around, Wes Howard, for executing all the details, and Darin Richardson for going above and beyond.

And last, but not least, thanks to Misty Rice for coming up all the way from Ft. Lauderdale to be a part of this. You’re such a good actress I actually started to believe your life was falling apart. You were acting right? :)

Toughest Job Yet

For the last week of the Dream Job series I tried to tackle my hardest job yet….an elementary school teacher. I had an absolute blast. Special thanks to Matt Singleton for his as usual excellent work (Matt’s wife Holly is expecting a baby very soon) and to Harpeth Valley Elementary School for allowing us to wreak havoc on their campus.

Did you have a teacher who just stands out as making an impact on your life? Mine was Mr. Jameson in 8th grade.  Eight grade was a tough year for me. I was in transition from a small Christian school to a large, very diverse, public school. Mr Jameson went out of his way to make sure I felt included and a part of things.

He talked me into trying out for the basketball team. Even though I only scored one point the ENTIRE year, I met some great friends and started to feel right at home. I’ll never forget the kindness he showed me and the courage he instilled in me.

So who was your favorite teacher?

Searching

This morning I headed an hour East to one of my favorite places to spend an early morning. I took a few pictures for you that I posted below.

I love to fly fish.

I used to think I was out there on the river searching for the elusive big trout.

In reality I think I’m searching for more.

Maybe it’s a few moments where nothing is ringing, nobody is pulling at me and I don’t feel the need to be “on”.

Maybe it’s that quiet moment where I hear nothing but the river drifting by me and God’s whisper that He created this for my enjoyment.

Maybe it’s friendship and great conversation that can only be created over a common passion.

I’m searching for more.

Behind The Video

I thought I would give you a little sneak peek into what goes on behind the scenes in making one of our videos. I love my job and the people I get to work with everyday. What a blessing!

Wind Beneath My Wings

Okay, so the title may be a little over dramatic. Give me a break, it’s Sunday night and I’m loopy. Tonight I’m so thankful for the incredible team of people (staff and volunteers) I serve with at Cross Point in both Nashville and Dickson.

I am totally aware that I get way too much credit for many of the things that happen at Cross Point. I love what I do and the reason I get to focus on what I love is because I’m surrounded by such an awesome team.

I’m a better pastor because..

  • George keeps a calm spirit when things are chaotic
  • Pat is developing a first class spiritual formation program for our kids
  • Jenni sharpens my leadership gifts
  • Jarrod leads me in worship that draws me closer to God
  • Matt inspires me with creativity
  • Chad does such a great job pastoring our Dickson Campus
  • Brian (along with our other elders) holds me accountable

I’m blessed to serve along side these guys (and many others) here at Cross Point who help this community become more radically devoted to Christ, irrevocably committed to one another, and relentlessly dedicated to reaching the lost.

Plan B

We are currently in a series at Cross Point that is really gaining steam. Often the first week of a series is our highest attendance, but more and more people are showing up for Plan B each weekend. The response is absolutely overwhelming. You can CLICK HERE to invited a friend. You won’t want to miss this weekend!

Feel free to post this full length series video on your myspace, facebook or blog.
