Random Parades

I’m blessed that I get to work from home at least one day a week. My home office is where I do the majority of my message and book writing. It’s one of my favorite spaces.

And what makes this space so unique you might ask?

Well, about three times a day there’s an unannounced parade that marches right through.

You know what I wonder sometimes as he passes through my office? When do we stop throwing parades for absolutely no good reason. We could all use a random parade from time to time.

Love you guys. Hope you have a great weekend!!

Before Kids?

Yesterday afternoon my mom had all three of the kids and Brandi and I had an entire afternoon just to ourselves. While we’ll often go out at night without them it’s rare to be alone during the middle of the day.  At some point this prompted her to ask, “What in the world did we do before we had kids?”  At first I thought, “Well, I have no idea what we did before kids,” but then it all came flooding back. We…

-Watched more movies that weren’t from Disney

-Walked around the mall without having to take a kid to the bathroom every five minutes

-Went out to eat and without having to spend half our time saying “Shhhhhh” and picking food up off the ground

So what did you do before you had kids?

Best Advice A Mentor Has Ever Given Me

Right after our second child was born a mentor of mine gave me some incredible advice. He said, “Pete, no matter what you think about how best to express love your small children will always spell it T-I-M-E.  I’ve found that advice to be spot on. Like most of you I go through seasons where my kids kind of get my leftovers. I can begin to see it in how they act out in an attempt to get my attention.

Regardless of where we go on vacation or what we do on vacation I make my primary goal to spend as much quality time with them as I possibly can. I posted the pic above on twitter last night right before I taught them how to eat their new favorite meal: Crab Legs. 2 out of 3 of them are sporting their favorite new discovery. Flat bill hats. :)

Why We had kids (Part 12)

Reason #12: Because I love string cheese.

No self respecting adult can have string cheese in their fridge unless there is at least one child under the age of 7 in the house. I’ve done the math and I’ve got another good 12 years of string cheese ahead. I love my kids and my cheese.

What’s your favorite kids snack?

And in case you’ve missed any of the others…

A Little Perspective

Have you ever heard the term one of “those” days?  It’s usually not used to describe a good day or a productive day. We usually use this term to describe a day that is less than spectacular. I bring this up because yesterday was one of “those” days.

It’s the kind of day you wish you could have slept through the entire thing or taken a pill at the end of the day so you could pretend it never happened.

It wasn’t a catastrophic day. It was just one of “those” days.

You know, a day where nothing is effortless or turns out the way you thought it was going to turn out.

Embracing Beauty

I took my two youngest for a little hike over the weekend in Percy Warner Park. Along the way I tried to point out amazing colors and unique landscapes.

I love taking them out in nature. I feel like I get the opportunity to fulfill one of my jobs as a parent which is teaching my kids to embrace the beauty of God’s creation.

They live in a world which is full of entertaining substitutes. There’s t.v., video games, and so many other things trying to capture their attention. In the midst of all this I don’t want them to miss the beauty of creation  God invites them into.

Are you teaching your kids to “embrace beauty”?

I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.  ~George Washington Carver

I forgot my camera but got a few pics with my phone…
