It’s Got To Stop!

I have been thinking about a post on the topic of criticizing one another and then I read THIS POST by Mark Batterson, pastor at National Community Church in D.C. that summed it up so well. My heart has been really heavy lately as I have watched Christians absolutely destroy one another. I just don’t get it. Mark said…

I think there are basically two kinds of people. People who are doing things and people who aren’t doing things, but they need something to do so they take potshots at people who are doing things.

There. I said it.

Come on, folks. Let’s be about the Father’s business.

In the words of Michelangelo: criticize by creating!

Can I be brutally honest?

The psychological tendency to try to feel better about ourselves by pointing out what’s wrong with someone else is immaturity at its worst. And no where is it more prevalent than the church

Now, I will be the first to say that I have displayed this kind of immaturity in the past. I have also been the recipient of my fair share of this kind of immaturity over the years and even more so lately. In the end, nobody wins. Nobody grows. Nobody is reached. Nobody is loved. Nobody becomes more like Christ. It’s got to stop.

That’s just my opinion. What do you guys think?

Busted!

Okay, so I’m not proud of it but the first section that I always read in our local paper The Tennesean is the gossip section. Not the local news, not the business section, not even the religion section…but the gossip. I know that is so not spiritual. But yesterday it paid off.

I often remark that for whatever reason God has blessed Cross Point Church with some of the most amazing talent. I am very proud of each person in our church that uses their giftedness to shape culture and ultimately bring glory to our Creator. You can read the whole gossip section here if you’re actually interested, but the part that caught my attention was….

• It’s been a busy week for songwriter Jim Beavers‘ TiVo. Three songs he’s co-written have been performed on late-night network TV in a three-week span, with a fourth being added tonight when Gary Allan sings “Watching Airplanes.” Dierks Bentley recently performed “Trying to Stop Your Leaving” and Gary sang “Watching Airplanes” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Brad Paisley performed “Mr. Policeman” on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Jim and his wife Rachel have been active at Cross Point for years. I have always been impressed with Jim’s servant heart as he has served quietly and humbly in our worship ministry. It’s great to see him getting some well-deserved attention for his giftedness.

So Jim, do you think you could co-write this weekend’s message with me?
