Coincidence?

I’ve already stated that I’m on the Tebow bandwagon. How could you not love this guy? His latest comeback victory and some crazy stats have the world abuzz.

Glen Levy wrote

Tebow threw for exactly 316 yards in the 29-23 upset win, presenting an eerie allusion to the Bible’s John 3: 16 passage — whose number Tebow famously wore in the black under his eyes when he led the Florida Gators to victory in the 2009 collegiate national championship game. What’s more, that event took place exactly three years ago on the same day as his latest miracle comeback. And that wasn’t it for the coincidences: Tebow set an NFL playoff record with, you guessed it, 31.6 yards per completion and the TV rating on CBS peaked between 8.00-8.15pm ET with a rating of, say it ain’t so, 31.6.

Hey, I’m not someone who likes to over spiritualize stuff, but aren’t those numbers CRAZY. Does this mean anything? Probably not, but if God had anything to do with this he’s got one heck of a sense of humor.

So what do you say? Coincidence or not?

Longing For Another World

I’ve been trying all week to put a post together based on last week’s message on Heaven. All of my attempts have failed miserably and I’ve finally given up so I’m just going to share the video with you.

It’s rare that I give a message that has as profound of a personal impact on me as this one did. I’ve spent an embarrassingly low amount of time thinking about heaven over the past 20 years. And as I say in the message, I really don’t believe you can desire something if you can’t imagine it.

As you attempt to increasing long for the world you were created for I hope and pray you’ll find this message helpful. My goal was to help myself first, and then others, begin to imagine what eternity with God might just be like.

Dear God

Dear God,

After spending an afternoon in the Hole*, once again, I’m full of pain, confusions and tons of questions.

God, I just don’t get it. WHY?

Why are there so many kids that don’t have enough food to eat?

Why are families living in city dump and using trash to feed their kids and build their homes?

Why is their widespread incest and abuse here?

Why don’t you do something?

Why don’t you make this right?

Why?

your servant,

Pete

*The “hole” is a make shift community where hundreds of Dominican and Haitians live. The property was set aside as a city dump and place for sewage run off. It’s widespread with poverty, disease, and crime.

I Need Some Love

luvy

This is a picture of Gage’s “Lovey”. Gage is my three year old and “Lovey” is his mutilated, filthy, elephant that he carries every where he goes. You would be surprised how much our family life revolves around “Lovey”. We have made trips back to restaurants because we left “Lovey”. We have had late night search parties looking for “Lovey”. “Lovey” gets to go on family vacations, sit at the dinner table, and has full voting rights as a member of the Wilson family.

This has been a traumatic week in our home as Gage is trying to do life without “Lovey”. On Easter Sunday he gave “Lovey” away to his new born cousin, Savannah.

Gage giving away ‘Luvy’

I can sum up why this whole transition has been tough for us in one word: love. There are two kinds of love in this world. A love you express because something brings you value, and a love that can actually create value in something. A love that creates value is a powerful thing. My son, Gage, loves that raggedy old elephant in such a way that it now has value to him and to our entire family.

I’m reminded today that God loves me not necessarily for what value I add to His Universe. I’m quite confident there are days that I add nothing. There are days that emotionally and spiritually I look a lot like “Lovey”. But God loves me in such a way that He gives me value. And for that I am very grateful.

Ephesians 5:1-2

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

How does that kind of love make you feel?

Where Does Easter Rank For You?

I’m reading a very thought provoking book by N.T. Wright entitled “Surprised By Hope”. This quote got me thinking and I want to hear your opinion. Wright said…

“What’s more, Christmas itself has now far outstripped Easter in popular culture as the real celebratory center of the Christian year-A move that completely reverses the New Testament’s emphasis…Easter, however, should be the center. Take that away and there is, almost literally, nothing left.”

With Easter right around the corner what do you think?
