My Weekend Project

I love weekend projects.

There are very few finish lines in ministry. Very few things you get to check off and say, “That’s finished.”

So when I get a chance to build something or plant something I jump at it because it gives me incredible satisfaction to look back and say, “Look at that. I built that. I did that. Now, it’s finished.”

So this weekend my partner in crime, Blake Bergrstrom, came over and in one of the most amazing, seamless partnerships in construction history we built a fence to go around my garden which was destroyed by dogs and rabbits last year.

I also must confess that my oldest son, Jett, played a pivotal part. Toward the end he looked up at me and said, “Dad, seriously, this is the best project we’ve ever done together.” Man, that melted me.  So here we go…. It’s going to be one heck of a garden this year. Beat THAT Martha Stewart!!

Farmer Pete

The past few days I’ve been going out each morning to the garden to see what’s ready to be harvested.  Over the years I’ve blogged about my garden herehere, and here. I can’t explain why it’s such a stress reliever for me, but I’ve been doing it for the better part of 14 years and LOVE it.

Here’s a few pics of the stuff I’ve picked over the past week (plus a bonus pick of Gage with the largest dandelion I’ve ever seen).

Backyard Escape

One of my favorite hobbies is yard work. There is something about getting out in the sun, breathing the fresh air and getting dirt in my hands that is absolutely therapeutic.

From planting the garden to seeing emerging colors that have been hidden for months, Spring is one of my favorite times of the year.

Here’s a few pics from my backyard escape.

Why We Had Kids (Part 10)

An Update On The Garden

I thought I would take a minute to update you on how the garden is going. HERE is my first post on the garden in case you missed it. Things are going well. The cucumber, green beans, squash, and tomatoes are looking great. Just pulled the radishes. The corn is in crisis and needs a lot of prayer, fertilizer and a small miracle.

Planting Seeds

Almost 12 years ago I planted my first garden. I’ve had one every summer since. There is something about planting and keeping up a garden I really enjoy. This year was really cool because Jett is taking an interest and helped me plant.

Here are the updated pictures. A few rows of corn, squash, cucumbers, green beans, tomatoes, and radishes. If you’re in the Nashville area you’ll have to stop by in a few months. I love giving vegetables away!
