One For The Record Book

Hope you guys had a great Memorial Day weekend. I know we did.

The highlight of my weekend was a short, but unforgettable, camping trip with the family. We stepped it up a notch this year and went “primitive” camping. In short, this means you don’t have electricity or water. I know it sounds like complete torture to some of you guys but we love it.

While camping I spent an afternoon fly fishing at Burgess Falls with Blake and my son, Jett.

I caught the biggest fish I’ve ever caught on a fly rod, not to mention I landed that sucker on my little 3 weight rod. Jett actually netted him for me which made for a fun memory.

So let’s hear it. What did you do with your long weekend?

On Closer Inspection

You’ve all heard the phrase, Looks can be deceiving. Well, there is no doubt we’ve all experienced the truth in that statement. For instance, when you first glance at this picture it appears I’m participating in one of my favorite past times, fly fishing.  It appears to be a stunning early morning out alone in nature.

There are few things I find more relaxing than standing in a stream or beside a pond and casting a fly I’ve carefully crafted. There is something in the quiet act of fly fishing that relaxes me like few things. I think it has more to do with what I don’t think about than what I do while I’m out there.

But let’s pull back on this particular photo and get the entire, more accurate view.

Yes, that’s one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight kids. Eight kids attempting to help me in my search for solitude.

It’s true. Looks can be deceiving.

What did you guys do for Memorial Day?

Gone Fishing

big-horn-river

I’m in Montana for a few days fly fishing the Bighorn River. I can’t imagine a more incredible place to fish, relax and dream about the future.

The only thing I regret is I won’t be in town to here THIS GUY at Cross Point Nashville on Sunday. If you’re in or around Nashville you won’t want to miss him. Hands down he’s one of the most gifted and down right funniest people I’ve ever been around!

I’ve been told I won’t have internet or cell service while I’m in Big Sky country so I’ll see you sometime on Monday or Tuesday.

Have a great weekend!

Pete

Searching

This morning I headed an hour East to one of my favorite places to spend an early morning. I took a few pictures for you that I posted below.

I love to fly fish.

I used to think I was out there on the river searching for the elusive big trout.

In reality I think I’m searching for more.

Maybe it’s a few moments where nothing is ringing, nobody is pulling at me and I don’t feel the need to be “on”.

Maybe it’s that quiet moment where I hear nothing but the river drifting by me and God’s whisper that He created this for my enjoyment.

Maybe it’s friendship and great conversation that can only be created over a common passion.

I’m searching for more.

Weekend in Review

  • Went fly fishing early Friday morning with Matt Singleton. We had a blast and caught a lot of trout, despite having to knock the ice off they eyes of our rods. I realize I am blessed to enjoy spending as much time out of the office with our staff as in the office. We have a great team.
  • Got to spend some great time with my boys and Brandi on Saturday. There is nothing better than a Saturday morning watching cartoons by the fire! And my wife makes the best bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits around.
  • Sunday was another great day at Cross Point. I am so blessed to wake up on Sunday morning and look forward to going to church. If you were there you know the worship was just incredible!
  • This morning was our second weekend for Community Group sign-ups. I love seeing people line up in the lobby to be a part of community. Community groups are the place where sustained life change happens. If you’re still interested in connecting to a community group click here.
  • Sunday afternoon we had a football party at church. Former Vanderbilt football star, Matthew Tant, shared his testimony. It is so cool to hear what God is doing through his life. Matthew, there is no doubt in my mind that your BEST days are ahead.
  • Speaking of football…my 6 year old son Jett just beat me in the fantasy football playoff challenge. That’s humbling.
  • This was the second Sunday for our new campus in Dickson. Just got a late text message that said they actually went up in attendance this week. Unheard of after an initial launch weekend!! I am so proud of Chad Roberts, the campus pastor, and his entire team of volunteers. They are in the process of turning Dickson upside down for Christ!
  • I am really trying to put this mornings message into practice. I’m going to find at least one opportunity every day this week to “create” community and not just “participate” in community. How about you?
