Do Me A Favor

I got an email from a friend this week who ended his correspondence with this statement.

Pete, do me a favor this year and celebrate the resurrection of Christ as if you were there to witness it in person. Be amazed and marvel at it all as if it’s the first time you’ve heard it.

That statement kicked me in the teeth. Like many of you I’m up to my eyeballs in the details and logistics of pulling off a major Easter weekend.  I’m distracted, maybe a little stressed and certainly carrying all kind of concerns. But I just want to issue this challenge to all of us as we draw closer to this weekend.

Pastors, I pray you’ll preach the hope of Jesus Christ like never before. Preach the resurrection as if you were there the day it happened and is if this were the last message you are ever going to give!

Worship Leaders, I pray you’ll lead worship with the same awe and amazement as if you just watched the stone roll away. Whether you have lights or no lights, production or no production may they see the wonder and awe in your eyes and voice that you actually believe what it is you’re singing.

Kids Teachers,  I pray you look your kids in the eyes and use every bit of passion, energy, and excitement you have to tell them a story that can and will impact their life forever.

Volunteers, I pray you’ll serve, sing, hand out programs, park cars, turn knobs, and make coffee as if eternities were on the line, because they are!

Worshipers, I pray you’ll open your heart and raise your voice and pour out all you have and all you are in honor of a God who has defeated death so you may have life.

I pray this weekend we’ll all drop our cynicism, egos, and agendas and will stand amazed and marvel at the wonder of  a God who has set us free from the penalty and the power of sin!

It’s ON!

The official countdown has begun and Easter is now upon us. We had a full rehearsal on Tuesday night and let me just say it’s going to be AMAZING.

Here’s an inside secret for Cross Pointer’s who read this blog: DON’T MISS THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES.

Can’t wait to celebrate with you guys! The below video tells you how you can help us out if you’re planning on attending one of our eight worship services this weekend. Please, please, please, be praying about who you can invite with you. Jump over HERE if you want to send out an invitation.

Mind Dump

I’ve got so many things bouncing around in my head from the last few days that I just couldn’t get them to fit in a nice, neat post. So, here are a bunch of random thoughts I wanted to share with you.

  • This Easter weekend was truly amazing. I was so proud of everyone I got the opportunity to serve with. It was a really, really, long weekend, but God did some amazing things.
  • My kids, in their matching green shirts, participated in three different Easter eggs hunts. They had a blast. And, as usual, my mom cooked an amazing Easter lunch.
  • My Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are headed to the sweet sixteen. Can’t wait to watch them face UCLA on Thursday.
  • I think I’m winning the office tournament with 37 out of 48 correct picks. It’s a real shame that I’m beating Indiana basketball experts like this guy.
  • Please keep Jacky Allen in your prayers. Jackie is struggling for his life right now in a hospital here in Nashville. Jacky was greeting at Cross Point Nashville just one week ago and this week was struck by a rare virus that is attacking his organs. Once again I have been reminded of the fragile nature of life.
  • I was so encouraged by the number of pastor friends that contacted me over the weekend just to say that they were praying for Cross Point. I am so blessed to be surrounded by some real Kingdom minded pastors in this area.
  • I have heard rumors of a new website for Cross Point that could be launched as early as later this week. I got a sneak peek and it looks AMAZING.
  • Ryan Bult and his Cross Point mission team returned late last night from a week in the Dominican Republic. They actually celebrated Easter with our Domincan Church in their new building which we have been working on. I’ll give you more details and pics later this week.
  • Cross Point’s own Sheg Aronmolate is still on Oprah’s Big Give. He survived another week of elimination. I think something big happens to him this next week. Sheg, can you give us any hints?

Thank You!

C.P. Worship on Easter

I just wanted to take some time this morning to thank the hundreds of volunteers who made this Easter weekend so amazing at our two Cross Point campuses.

It was a weekend that thousands of people will never forget. I was moved over and over again as I watched God work in you and through you. So for investing in kids, acting in KidStuff, handing out programs, making coffee, leading in worship, programming lights, working with multi-media, parking cars, and all the other things that you did to create incredible environments this weekend…THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

Here is just one of the many e-mails that I’m going through this morning that point to the eternal impact you made this weekend.

Hi Pete,

I have to tell you that this morning was one of the most amazing of my life. I decided to come to the 9:00 am service today because I am greeting tonight. I wanted to experience my first Easter service in it’s entirety. I left today speechless and once again forever changed.

The power, the passion, the mere force of what I felt today has me asking myself and questioning as I never have before.

Could I let Christ into my life? Am I capable? I think the answer is yes.
I find myself wanting more and more of this new found love.

I had never heard the term “vision casting” before reading your blog. Since that time, I have been reading about it and I am fascinated by it. Today I saw it and felt it. It shook my spirit and soul.

I confess to you that I have never had the inclination or the drive to want the knowledge of religion on any level because of the way it has been presented to me in my life. Today I want to breathe it in and know more.

Before today, Easter was just a word or a reason to search with children for decorated eggs. Today Easter has depth and meaning that will cause a celebration in my mind

Thank you so much for today and for casting your vision towards me.

And that is why we do what we do! Tell me how this Easter impacted you?

Pete

What Are You Wearing?

My wife just picked up the boy’s shirts for Sunday. At ages 6, 3, and 1 this could be the last opportunity to dress them the same.

When our six year old, Jett, saw the matching shirts he said, “Aggghhhhh, this is my worst nightmare!”

Do you have your Easter outfit picked out?

I’m Getting So Excited!

easter

I am getting so excited about Easter. It’s almost here. The closer we get, the more excited I’m getting. This afternoon our staff spent some time praying in the auditorium. We prayed specifically for the people you guys are inviting this weekend to both Cross Point Nashville and Cross Point Dickson.

I’ve heard so many cool stories today. My wife, Brandi, came home from her 5:00 a.m. spin class and said at the end of class the instructor invited everyone to Easter at Cross Point.  I just got out of a meeting with a guy that has invited three families and all three are planning to be there. I hope he didn’t offer to buy lunch!  Another lady called to say her Jewish brother she’s been praying for has agreed to come this weekend.

Who are you praying is going to be there this weekend? Who have you invited?

Let me know how I can pray for you,

Pete

A Beautiful Mess

easter

On Monday things started to get crazy here at the Cross Point Nashville campus. Lots of equipment, lights, and other things I don’t understand. It’s going to look and sound amazing!

I have been talking with Pastor Chad about things at the Cross Point Dickson campus. They are getting fired up about celebrating their first Easter together. They face unique challenges meeting in the high school, but I know it will prove to be a Easter those of you in Dickson will not want to miss.

I hope you have been praying about who you are going to invite this weekend. If you have someone in mind, let me know so I can join you in praying for them.
