I’m so excited for this Sunday at Cross Point. We always try to mix it up a bit the Sunday after Thanksgiving and this year you guys get to see a one on one interview I did with Matt Hasselbeck, the quarterback for the Tennessee Titans.

Now some of you might say, “I don’t even really like football.” No worries. That’s not a problem at all because I bet you know somebody who does and would be extremely interested in hearing Matt’s story. This is a great opportunity for you to invite a friend, neighbor, or co-worker who doesn’t normally attend church to come with you.

Bonus: You’ll get to see me cross a major item off my bucket list. Honestly, I never thought I would get a shot at this one… but it SO happened.

Cross Point Internet Campus

If you haven’t joined us for our new Cross Point Internet Campus then this Sunday is your opportunity. We’ve had several thousand people from a dozen or so countries join us the first few weeks.

6:00 pm (CST) Sunday night.

My favorite part is the live Q & A we do after the message. My friend, Jon Acuff, will be joining me this Sunday night. Who knows what might happen with that guy around. You won’t want to miss it.

An Amazing Easter

Hope everyone had an amazing Easter weekend.

There’s nothing like it is there?

The resurrection is the only hope that has held human beings across every continent and culture together for two thousand years in the face of difficult times like poverty, disease, pain, crisis, and even death itself.

I was reminded afresh yesterday that Easter changed everything.

It wasn’t a new religion. It wasn’t a new system that we had to work in order to please a God who was withholding his love. It was an event in history that changed everything.

My worth is established.
My past is forgiven.

He defeated the power of death and sin all in one move.

So I would love to hear what the highlight of your Easter was? Any takeaways? Stories?

*As a sidenote: For the hundreds of you that served yesterday at one of our 15 Cross Point services: Thanks for making it such a special day. I’m honored to serve with you guys week in and week out. Can’t imagine life without you!!

9,000 Miles Later

We had an awesome first day with the team here in India. Exhausted would be an understatement though. After a 30 hour journey to get here we were worn out and took it kind of easy today.

It’s amazing how that 11.5 hour time difference will mess with your mind and body.

I had the incredible opportunity today to cut the ribbon and then speak at the opening of our India ministries new office building. This will be the hub for all future church plants, schools and feeding centers.

I’m so proud of the work they’re doing here. They now have a staff of almost a dozen people working and doing ministry here every day.

What a wonderful opportunity we had to just pour into their lives for a few minutes.

I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with the pastor of Cross Point India (picture below) which we helped launch just a few weeks ago. I’ll be telling you more about him and the church as we go through the week. They’ve been facing some serious opposition in the community which makes me a bit nervous since I’m speaking there Sunday. But no worries. I’ve got some really BIG guys with me.

So that’s it for day one. I’m about to crawl under my mosquito net bed and finally get some sleep. Thanks again for all the prayers. Love you guys.

There’s Nothing Like Easter

I’m so stinking fired up about Easter I can’t stand it. I was in a couple meetings just yesterday finalizing the details for Easter services at the Cross Point campuses and I really believe it’s going to be a weekend none of us will ever forget.

Our motto here at CP on Easter is “Don’t Come Alone.” We really believe this weekend is a great opportunity for you to invite someone to come with you. People are simply more open to coming on Easter than any other time of the year, so let’s get on it.

Can You Hear Me Now?

I was thinking about a statistic that I shared in yesterday’s message. It’s from the book unChristian where 61% of the respondents described Christianity as “confusing.” As a communicator this is deeply disturbing to me. When I first read it, I was kind of defensive. Well those individuals didn’t come to OUR church. They didn’t listen to MY messages. And furthermore, if they walked away confused maybe it was THEIR fault. Maybe they were distracted. Maybe they came in with pre-conceived notions. Maybe they were more worried about where they were going out to eat than about hearing the message.

I read a blog tonight from Seth Godin that hit me right between the eyes. In a post entitled “The Posture of a Communicator” he wrote…

What’s helpful is to realize that you have a choice when you communicate. You can design your products to be easy to use. You can write so your audience hears you. You can present in a place and in a way that guarantees that the people you want to listen will hear you. Most of all, you get to choose who will understand (and who won’t).

I wonder how many times someone has come into Cross Point searching for answers only to leave more confused than when they came in. How many times has someone desired to connect with God only to walk away with more questions than answers.

If you have been given the amazing opportunity by God to communicate His Word on a regular basis, I hope that you will take some time to think about this. How could you write and/or speak in such a way as to capture the attention and communicate in a clear way the message God has put on your heart? You get to choose. Don’t let them walk away confused!

I often receive e-mails from people at Cross Point that have been impacted through the relationships they have developed in their community group. Here is a great one that I received earlier this week…

Good morning, Pastor Pete! I know in your message yesterday you talked about the importance of community groups. So, I thought that I would share a good story with you. I have been renovating my house over the last couple of weeks and my parents came to visit this weekend to help (and they love our church, FYI). Well, we started to strip the wallpaper in my kitchen and found 2 layers of border, over 3 layers of wallpaper! It was hideous! We did as much as we could to get it off, but there just weren’t enough hands or enough time to get it done. So, because our group (Messy Spirituality) is in between books right now, my group has offered to come over on Wednesday night of this week in lieu of our meeting and strip wallpaper with me! It’s amazing how they have become some of my best friends and always willing to lend a helping hand. I’m so thankful to have them in my life and thankful to Crosspoint for having brought us together. Anyway, I hope this brightens your day. It has absolutely brightened mine!!! Have a great week!

How loud is too loud?

From time to time someone will share with me that they feel our worship is too loud. I’m not going to argue on whether it is or isn’t. I’m just saying they have never heard my 1 year old (Brewer) and my 3 year old (Gage) banging on the pots and pans in the kitchen. This is a favorite evening activity in our household. When are the next auditions Jarrod?
