As Promised…C.C. Deville and Amazing Grace

My wife got the opportunity to drive down to Atlanta on Sunday night with some friends (including 5thstreet) to catch Poison in concert. As mentioned HERE a few weeks ago, C.C. Deville introduced “Amazing Grace” to his concert set for the first time.

I just want to say I can’t imagine a more appropriate place for that song to be performed. I saw on YouTube that someone caught the performance with their camera phone, so without further ado….

Boys Will Be Boys

Last night we were at my dad’s house when Gage came running inside with blood streaming down his face. He was screaming that Jett pushed the swing (big tree swing) and it hit him in the head. Luckily, my sister, Kristi, who is a physicians assistant, was there to help clean him up. Five minutes later he said “I’m okay!” and ran back outside to play on the swing some more.

Oh, and just to clarify: I asked Jett what happened and he said he’s pretty sure the wind blew that swing into Gage’s head. Good to know.

Pray for Brandi. Living with 4 boys she’s got her hands full for the next 18 years or so. Here’s a few other things she gets to look forward to…

Happy Mother’s Day

For Mother’s Day today I thought I would interview my two oldest boys and ask them a few questions about their mother.

Jett (7) said this….

How old is mom? 33

What does mom do for a living? Takes care of us.

What is your favorite thing about mom? When she let’s me do stuff and when she cheers for me in baseball.

What is your favorite thing to do with mom? Making eggs in the morning.

What is the one thing you want mom to know on Mother’s day? That I love her very, very much.

Gage (4) said this…

How old is mom? 20 (this is one smart 4 year old)

What does mom do for a living? Help people.

What is your favorite thing about mom? When she teaches me things. And one time she gave me a piggy bank. And she does everything I tell her to do.

What is your favorite thing to do with mom? Go to movies.

What is one thing you want mom to know on Mother’s Day? That she is pretty. (He’s a genius)

I am blessed to have two wonderful women in my life. My own mother, Sue DeJarnette, has been an incredible source of support, love, and encouragement throughout my life. My wife, Brandi, is an amazing mom, who is devoting her very life to raising our boys.

These two women have helped shape my life in immeasurable ways. Thank you both for being the unique women God has called you to be! There are simply no words to express my deep gratitude to you.

Happy Mother’s Day,

Pete

When Non-Christians Act More Like Christians Than Christians

I was watching a story the other night about Brad Pitt and the relief work he has been involved with down in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. Now please understand, this post has nothing to do with Brad Pitt’s religious beliefs. I actually have no idea what he believes or does not believe. I do know my wife thinks he’s hot and I thought if I put a picture of him on my blog she might actually read this.

I also know he certainly appears to be using his fame, his leadership, and his resources to make a difference by serving the under resourced. It’s inspiring to me because I want to use what leadership, influence, and resources God has given me to make a difference.

I received an e-newsletter today from G.O. Ministries highlighting the recent work Cross Point has been doing in the Dominican Republic. CLICK HERE if you’re interested in reading. I’m proud to be part of a church that truly cares about serving the under resourced in Nashville, Dickson, and around the world. Keep up the great work!

So, does it ever bother you that sometimes non-Christians act more like Christians than Christians do?

Take a Hike!

Our hike up Mt. Leconte was amazing. This is a hike that Brandi and I have wanted to do for a while. It was even sweeter getting to enjoy this accomplishment with our good friends Nate and Holly VanZeeland. We met Nate and Holly almost 5 years ago when they moved to Nashville and became our next door neighbors.

They will be moving in a few months to St. Louis so Nate can complete his orthopedic fellowship as a hand surgeon. While we will miss them, we have so many incredible memories from the past 5 years. Here are a few of my favorites…

-Fly fishing trips on the Caney

-”God inspired” trips to Lowe’s

-Spontaneous cookouts in the backyard

-Vacation to Destin

-Baptizing Nate 3 years ago

-Climbing Mt. Leconte

Here are a few more pictures from the hike. You can click on each picture for a description.

We Made It!

I’ll post more later, but for those of you that have been waiting with great anticipation, we have safely completed our journey. And here is the proof…
