Bust A Move

I’ll admit it. I can’t dance. I mean I can dance, but it’s not smooth like Justin Timberlake. I really wish I could and I admire people who can.

I can’t sing either, but my lack of ability has never stopped me from full fledge concerts in the car. My 3 year old son, Brewer, has watched many of my concerts from the backseat and officially announced yesterday that he will be joining me on tour.

Enjoy this 57 seconds of awesomeness. Eat your heart out Justin Timberlake.

Have you been known to sing and dance in the car from time to time? Be honest.

Over The Table

You may have seen this video floating around twitter, but I thought it would be fun to re-post it here. Friday night we found ourselves playing Spoons with a group of friends.

Spoons is a card game where there is one less spoon than numbers of players. When one player gets 4 of a kind they grab a spoon and all heck ensues. The player that doesn’t get a spoon is out.

Since I’m a pastor I felt the need to find some kind of spiritual emphasis for this video. The best I could do was…

Col. 3:23 In all the work you are doing, work the best you can (I know it’s a stretch).

And for the record, yes, that was recording artist Todd Smith acting violently and then bragging once he came up with the spoon. You better watch it, mister! You keep up that kind of attitude and I’ll pass this video on to TMZ and we’ll have one of those five or so Dove awards of yours stripped. :) Is a spoon really worth it Todd?

Why Can’t They Keep Their Hands Off Each Other?

Last night we had some friends over. We had ten children among the three couples and 7 out of 10 of them were boys. Do you know what this means?  Yes, trouble… but it also means it doesn’t take long before the wrestling begins. I have no idea what it is about boys and wrestling, but it’s bound to happen as soon as you get two or more of them gathered together in a room.

I remember loving WWF as a kid. My favorite all time wrestler was Jerry “The KING” Lawler. And by the way if you’re a fan you can actually join Jerry on his “Legends of Classic Wrestling Cruise” this fall (come on, you know you want to go).

Did you have a favorite wrestler?

Filling Up My Bucket

image

For years now I’ve pictured my heart as a bucket. As I go through life and interact with people and certain circumstances I seem to pour a little of my heart out. Over time I notice that my bucket, or my heart, seems to get a little empty.

I become….

short with people
judgmental
hurried
impatient

There are various spiritual practices I’ve developed to help me fill my bucket. One of those is worship.

Some of my sweetest moments of worship are in the car. I turn up a worship song, open my heart and mind to God and allow him to fill up my heart with His truth, love and grace. It’s essential for me if I want to be the man I believe God has called me to be.

Over the years God has used Hillsong’s worship to fill my heart again and again and again. Faith+Hope+Love, Hillsong’s latest live worship album, releases NEXT TUESDAY. Every track on the album has been filling up my bucket the last few weeks and I know it will do the same for you.

As a gift to you today, here’s your chance to slow down and allow God to speak to you. Take a minute and enjoy the world premiere of “We Will See Him” off of Hillsong’s new album.

Charlie Bit My Finger

My 8 year-old son, Jett showed me this video the other day.  Not sure how he found it, but every time I walk by the computer he and Gage are watching it again. Jett said, “Dad, you’ve got to watch this video. You’re not going to believe it, but it has more hits than my Taylor Swift video!” There are few things that make me as happy as listening to my kids laugh.

If by any chance you haven’t seen it…you’ll love it. Do yourself and the people around a favor and laugh a little more today.

Pyrotechnical Professional

Every year we have some friends and neighbors over for a little 3rd of July party. We’ve been doing this same party for 7 years and our firework show gets bigger every year.

You’re in luck this year because we actually allowed cameras to capture some of the behind the scenes preparation and execution of the big show. Due to a camera malfunction we didn’t capture much of the actual show on video, but we did include a few still pics from last night. Amazingly no fingers, eyes or ears were permanently damaged or lost in the filming of this video.

Make no mistake about it, this IS the largest backyard fireworks display in the Southeast.

Happy 4th of July everyone. Hope you have an awesome time with friends and family celebrating this amazing country we’re allowed to live in!

How did you celebrate the 4th?

I Sweat A lot

So this past Sunday we concluded the Q series by allowing our Cross Point attenders to text in their questions. The questions were presented to me live to answer with no preparation.

I got asked some of the toughest questions I’ve ever been asked. From questions about homosexuality, suicide, and dinosaurs to marijuana and masturbation. Funny how you can put together a pretty good answer to some of these questions when you’re sitting at the table with your friends and have about 30 minutes to talk through them. I found out it’s a lot more difficult when you have 3 seconds and you’re starring at hundreds of people.

I’ve had friends ask, “Why did you do it this way? You know if you knew what questions were coming you could have prepared and give a very polished answer.” Well, this forum really wasn’t about the answers for me. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m a pastor that loves God’s Word and believes there’s important answers to be found for most of these questions. However, sometimes we focus so much on the answer that we begin to belittle the questions. We make people feel “less than” if they have questions about faith and life.

My prayer all day was not that I would answer all the questions correctly. My prayer is that people would see that while questions are important we don’t need to feel like we have to have all the answers to them to have faith. I want them to see that we shouldn’t be afraid of the questions. Even the ones we don’t have great answers for. We can still live a vibrant faith for Christ in the midst of the questions and in the midst of the doubts.

To say I sweat a lot would be an understatement. While I wish I could have another stab at a few of these questions I think the day turned out pretty good, but I’ll let you be the judge of that. The questions from all 4 services were combined into this one video.
