There’s a great new resource out there for churches and pastors called Ministry Matters. Their site is full of all kinds of tools including blogs, articles, message illustrations, and worship resources. They truly are a one-stop shop full of all kinds of ministry helps. I shot several videos for them recently including “How I Prepare My Messages,” “Using Social Media To Call People To Action” and “The Importance Of Having Close Friends In Ministry.”

But there’s one video I just had to share with you today.

The question I was asked was, “What would you do with the time you can save using Ministry Matters.”

This insanity ensued…

Favorite Movie Line Ever

I’m going to be showing my inner 80′s here, but my favorite movie line is from “Top Gun.” Did I ever show you the “Top Gun” remake we did a few years ago? You can watch it HERE.

Ripoff

The great thing about having friends who blog over to your house is there’s a decent chance something will happen that they’ll blog. And when they do blog whatever happens you can steal it, saving yourself from actually writing a blog post.

If your friend has a camera this “ripoff” will be even easier. Add in a chipmunk and a bunch of kids and you have a fantastic Memorial Day post.

Hope everyone has an amazing Memorial Day today. To the families of the 1.3 million Americans who have given their lives in battle, we honor you, your loved ones and the great sacrifice they’ve made for this amazing country.

And I almost forgot. Thank you Los for the amazing video. Keep cranking these out and I’ll keep inviting you over.

Video Magic

I love making videos. I remember the very first video I ever helped make was a Miami Vice spin-off called “Nashville Vice” when I was nine. My neighborhood friends and I carefully sketched out each scene. I played Crockett and my best friend, Scott, was Tubs. We shot our final scene on the ramp to 440 off of West End Avenue, just minutes from our Cross Point Nashville campus. At the time 440 was still being built around Nashville so it made for a fun place to shoot creative videos.

These days I’m blessed to get to mix my passion for shooting videos with my other passion of telling people about Christ.

I’m hoping one day my son, Jett, may mix those two passions, but these days he’s mixing our shared passion for making videos with his passion for football.

The other night I got to go down to Vanderbilt University to catch up with Kevin Mawae (former Titans player and current president of the NFL Players Association) who I was shooting an interview with which will be part of our Cross Point service this weekend.

I took my son, Jett, with me so he could hang out and watch Vanderbilt practice. When I went to sit down and shoot the video with Kevin I gave him my phone and he went over to the sideline.

Later that night I found this video on my phone. I wondered what he was doing the whole time I was doing the interview. I think this one is going to be an instant Without Wax classic. I did no editing to the video except for adding a little soundtrack for your enjoyment. Do yourself a favor and watch all 90 seconds of this awesomeness.

Disney Madness

Obviously at Disney you do some ridiculous things for your kids.

We’ll pay six dollars for a coke.

We’ll put on ponchos and walk through downpours to get to the next attraction.

We’ll line up on the side of the road and wait for an hour for a quick glimpse of one of our their favorite Disney characters.

Why would we do such a thing?

Approval Addiction

I’m continually amazed at the crazy things we do in an attempt to find approval and love from the people around us.

Some of you have jumped through some absurd hoops hoping to gain love and approval from your parents.

Some of you have worked your fingers to the bones, ignoring your family, hoping to get the approval of your boss.

Some of you gave yourself away sexually this weekend to someone you hardly knew hoping to gain the love of someone.

The reality is daily we turn to people around us to give us something no human being could ever give us.

Here’s the powerful story of Stephanie who was brave enough to share with us for our Empty Promises series this weekend at Cross Point. Stephanie sent me her story a couple weeks ago after reading this post and wanting to reach out to help this young lady.

I love it when people are willing to step out of the shadows and brave judgment, embarrassment and ridicule to tell us about how God met them in their darkest of moments.

I’ve Got Nothing

OK, so here’s the deal. I’ve got nothing. Between traveling and an extremely exhausting (but also rewarding) day yesterday I’ve got no fresh content for you.

I usually come home on Sunday nights after our 4th service and write a blog post or two but last night I blew you guys off and went and hung out way too late with some friends.

So today, you get a video. But it’s a good video. Here’s a clip of the show 100 Huntley Street that I did last week. The show aired live nationally across Canada on Friday….. but since only 6 of my readers live in Canada (just kidding, just kidding). Love the format and the girls on this show were great. Lots of fun.

Summertime

Few things say summertime like the good old Slip-N-Slide. There have been some unbelievable technology breakthroughs in the past 25 years that now entertain our kids on a daily basis.

However, a piece of plastic with a little water on it never goes out of style.
