Favorite Nicknames

Isn’t it funny how we give people nicknames? In elementary school is was ‘PJ’, in high school I was ‘Wilson’ and then in college I became ’31 Flavors’ (it’s a long story). These days some people call me “PP” for Pastor Pete ( Trust me, I’ve been called worse).

I love nicknames. If you’re a close friend of mine I’ve probably given you a nickname (whether you realize it or not). I even have nicknames for people at church or the gym that I don’t even know. I’m not sure why I think they’re so fun or why I give them to people, but I do.

Here are the nicknames I have for my family.

Brandi is Willis

Jett is J-man

Gage is Pooh Bear

Brewer is Boo Boo

So do you have a nickname? Let’s hear it. Come on, stop lurking and tell us. We promise we won’t make fun of you. :)

If you’re not feeling very creative and need a little help you could always visit nicknames.com where they will help you develop a vast array of nicknames for you and your friends.

Total Randomness

I’m having a hard time gathering my thoughts this morning for a decent blog post so I’ve decided to just emotionally throw up on you. Here’s what’s rattling around in my mind this morning.

  • Saw a special screening of the movie “Machine Gun Preacher” based on the real life story of missionary Sam Childers. Wow! Watch the preview HERE. As fate would have it, Sam was in Nashville on Sunday and I had the opportunity to sit down with him for a couple hours. His story is absolutely fascinating. The movie comes out in late September and we plan on showing my entire interview with him a couple weeks after the movie releases.

  • Spoke at the Titans pre-game chapel on Saturday. What an amazing group of men. Sometimes I forget that they’re human like us and facing all the same spiritual battles we face. So excited to know that God is moving powerfully in some of their lives. I know professional athletes often get a bad rap, but these were some of the most spiritually hungry, respectful men I’ve ever spoken to. EVERY single player there came up and introduced themselves to my son, Jett, before they left. Made his day.
  • These are special days at Cross Point. Over 1,000 people signed up for a community group last week. Yesterday, we announced that some 3,000 Cross Pointers served in a local or foreign mission project last year. So much fun to watch them change the world. Can’t wait to hear each of the campus pastors lay out their specific campus visions this Sunday.
  • Ever been so tired you can’t sleep? Went to bed after midnight and woke up at 3:30. Uggghhhhh.
  • Excited to be speaking at Long Hollow’s staff retreat today. Their pastor, David Landrith, is a mentor and friend. He’s one of the best leaders/pastors I’ve ever met.  I’m so proud of that church and the impact they’re having here in Nashville.

Okay, enough about me. :) Tell me something exciting that you did this weekend?

Lights… Camera… Action

So, yesterday we started filming the footage for the video curriculum for my next book, Empty Promises.

The book doesn’t come out until next Spring, but the videos and the participants guides will come out at the same time so we’re in full production mode.

We’ll be working hard shooting through late Friday night and here’s where I need your help.

We’re looking for 50 extras to help out Friday night. This is your chance to be recognized by Hollywood and become a video star!! Okay, maybe not, but we’ll have a blast, make some new friends and it would mean the world to  me to have you be a part of this new project.

Here are the specifics the producer and director are looking for…

We need 50+ Extra’s (Both Male + Female) in the 20′s – 30′s Age Range (must be 18+)
Wardrobe: ‘Club Attire’ of the nicer/more up-scale. Dressed up as in ‘ready to party’. Think LA/NYC nightlife.
Call time: 8:00 pm (we’ll be shooting until close to 1am)
Location: Houston Station, Nashville TN

I know a pastor inviting you to a club late on a Friday night and asking you to wear “club attire” sounds a bit sketchy. You’ll just have to trust me on this one. I’m PRETTY SURE it’s above board. :)

If you’re interested please email Evie at evie@crosspoint.tv. Please don’t just show up or leave a comment. You really need to shoot her an email to make it legit.

Thanks guys.

I’ve Never…

I ran into a friend this week at the gym that I hadn’t seen in a while. She was explaining to me that she had recently broken her elbow in a biking accident. My first thought was,”I had no idea you could even break your elbow.”  I mean, really? Ouch.

But then I thought, I can’t believe I’ve lived well over three decades on this earth and I’ve never broken a single bone on my body.

Anyway,  I thought it would be fun if we played the “I’ve Never” game. It’s super easy and a great way for you to get to know this community a little better. Just tell us one thing you’ve never done.

Here are a few more things I’ve never done.

I’ve never….

-spent the night in a hospital as a patient

-read or watched any of the Lord of the Rings series

-paid for a massage

Your turn.  Go!!

Summer Vacation

We left this morning for our annual summer vacation to the beach. Other than this 8 hour drive that will lead to at least 1,357 “Are we there yet dad?” questions, I’m so looking forward to this trip.  I’ll put up a few posts along the way but for the most part I’ll be enjoying some unplugged time with the family.

Hey, where have you gone or where are you going on vacation this summer? Any highlights?

Why We had kids (Part 12)

Reason #12: Because I love string cheese.

No self respecting adult can have string cheese in their fridge unless there is at least one child under the age of 7 in the house. I’ve done the math and I’ve got another good 12 years of string cheese ahead. I love my kids and my cheese.

What’s your favorite kids snack?

And in case you’ve missed any of the others…

I’VE GOT THIS DREAM

So my friend, Marla Taviano has a new book releasing that I imagine will create a few waves. It’s one of the least talked about subjects in the church but a major issue in so many Christian marriages. And Marla’s been kind enough to allow me to give FIVE FREE COPIES of her book away. Just leave me your name and how many years you’ve been married and I’ll pick 5 random winners.

Plus, I asked her to tell us a bit more about the dream behind this book. Welcome Marla to WithoutWax.

I have a dream.

That every husband’s suggestion for sex is met, not with deep sighs and eye-rolls from his wife, but with squeals of joys and a mad dash to the bedroom.

I have a dream.

That every husband is enthralled by his own wife, other women fade to the background, and porn is a non-issue.

I have a dream.

That every wife puts down her Christian romance novel and shakes her head in pity at the poor male hero who can’t hold a candle to her amazing husband.

I have a dream.

That every wife would rather have sex with her husband than go shopping with her girlfriends.

I have a dream.

That every husband would rather spend time listening to his wife than watch a weekend’s worth of football.

I have a dream.

That every husband and wife would be in the mood for sex at the same time every single time.

I have a dream today.

That we can bridge the sexual disconnect between husbands and wives once and for all and experience a stinking awesome marriage bed just like the good Lord intended.

Here’s to doing my part to make your wildest dreams come true!

Get your copy of Marla’s new e-book, The Husband’s Guide to Getting Lucky: Six Simple Steps to Great Sex with Your Wife, for just $4.99 TODAY. This might be a better Father’s Day gift than another box of golf balls.
