Sausage Biscuits

There are times I’m so proud of people in our church I just can’t stand it. Thursday morning was one of those times.

We really believe…

Everyone’s welcome, nobody’s perfect, and anything’s possible.

Do you?

Time

I’ve always believed one of our most important resources is our time. When we give money… we know we can always make more. But when we give of our time… we’ll never get it back.

I’m hoping some of you in the Nashville area will prayerfully consider investing your time in the life of a child who desperately needs you in 2009.

Every week I give an hour of my time to serve as a lunch buddy to 7 year old Ladarius through Preston Taylor Ministries. I look forward to our time together each week (can’t wait for tomorrow at 11:50). Ladarius has truly been a blessing to my entire family.

When I’m visiting the school each week I’m always amazed at the number of Cross Point people I bump into who are also there eating with their lunch buddy. It truly gives me the feeling we are making a difference right here in our own community!

Below are four beautiful kids who are in need of a lunch buddy.

Supporting Sammy

Last week for family night we did a “Compassion” night where we let the kids help us select a child to support through Compassion International.

I can’t tell you how cool it was to partner with our kids in making a difference in the life of a child thousands of miles away.

It was a great opportunity to remind our kids just how “rich” we are compared to the rest of the world and how important it is to use what God has blessed us with to bless others.

Here’s a little video to show you how God led us to support “Sammy”.

Do you support a child? If so let us know who and where so we can pray for them today.

I support Compassion's Christian child charity. You can too. Sponsor a child today.

The Church Being The Church

I’m so proud of the 300 Cross Point Nashville volunteers who’ve been out building several homes for Habitat For Humanity this weekend. Way to go guys!

You represent the vision of becoming radically devoted to Christ, irrevocably committed to one another, and relentlessly dedicated to reaching the lost so well!

Striving for Excellence

How do you define excellence? At Cross Point we define it by: Doing the best you can with what you have.

I’ve seen excellence come in all kinds of shapes and sizes.

From time to time church planters and pastors will visit Cross Point and walk away wishing they had as many volunteers as we have, or as many cool toys as we have, or as large of a staff as we have. In follow-up conversations I detect it. If we only had this or that we could do excellent ministry.

This summer while visiting our sister church in the Dominican Republic I was reminded of the excellence principle. Obviously this small Haitian church in the Dominican Republic, which is only half-way built, has few resources. But it doesn’t stop them from doing excellent ministry.

It was a big deal when we visited there earlier this summer. So big, they rolled out the red carpet. They used toilet paper to welcome us. Yes toilet paper. Now that’s excellence. Doing the best you can with what you have.

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,”

So what’s one area of your life, business, or church where you need to pursue excellence?

This Was A Huge Weekend!

Wow, where do I start? First of all let me say this….. if you attend Cross Point Dickson STOP reading this right now! If you rebel and read on, at least do me a favor and keep this information just between the two of us. I’m going to be at your campus this Sunday to do a little vision casting and I don’t want you to let the cat out of the bag.

Here’s a quick wrap up of some of the exciting plans we announced at Cross Point Nashville this weekend.

1) We’re going to add an additional Sunday service.

Between our two campuses Cross Point has grown 94% in the past year. How? Because you keep inviting your friends. It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. So, at Cross Point Nashville starting September 7th our new service times will be… 8:30, 10:30, 11:45 and 6:00 p.m. KidStuff will be at 9:40.

2) We’re going to plant our 3rd campus.

Our goal is to plant our 3rd campus in January of 09′. While we don’t know exactly where yet, we are hopeful to give you more details in the near future. We are so excited about the opportunity to reach more people in the Nashville communities with God’s incredible message of hope. Cross Point will be one church meeting in 3 locations!

3) We’re partnering with Habitat for Humanity.

This fall we will help build 3 homes with Habitat for Humanity. One of them is an all womens build on a house that is being personally funded by Reba McEntire. We’ll need several hundred volunteers to step up to pull off this huge feat.

4) We’re increasing our giving to missions.

Since day one Cross Point has given 10% of its weekly budget to missions. In the almost 6 years we have existed we’ve been able to give some $750,000 to missions. While this has been incredible, we feel led to step it up. Starting this year we are going to add 1% per year to our missions giving for the next ten years. A decade from now 20% of our entire budget will be designated to impact our world for Christ. Our conservative estimation is that we will give over $6 million to missions over the next 10 years.

On top of that…My personal goal is to find 100 churches to partner with us in adding 1% to their mission budget over the next ten years. I’m praying that we can collectively see $100 million designated to world missions over the next decade.

I’m so pumped about what God is doing here at Cross Point. I can’t wait to see what God continues to do through this community!!

I love being your pastor,

Pete

What’s Your flavor?

I can’t tell you how good it is to be back home. God did some amazing things through our team and I couldn’t be more proud of each one them. I will be buried the next couple of days in e-mails, phone calls and make-up meetings but it was totally worth it.

I took this picture on one of our last days. It’s the Dominican ice cream man…

I saw my co-worker asked this same question yesterday but let’s give it a try…What’s your favorite kind of ice cream?

Mine is chocolate chip. If I’m feeling crazy, maybe mint chocolate chip. I know, I know, I’m boring.
