While I’m Out

While I’m on vacation this week and not blogging as much I thought I would introduce you to a few of my favorite fellow Cross Point staff blogs. It’s a real honor to get to serve with these guys. If you don’t already, make sure you check out…

Matt Warren- There are very few blogs out there by guys who understand the technical and musical aspects of the church like Matt does. He’s our Cross Point music director and it turns out not a bad writer either. If you’re smart you’ll add him to your blogroll.

Miranda Telford- I can’t tell you how excited I was to just find out that she started a blog and I’m so excited  you guys are going to get to know even a part of her heart.

Jenni Catron- Her blog will challenge you with all kinds of incredible posts on leadership and life. I’ve read her blog longer than any other blog out there.

Stephen Brewster- One of our newest staff members and also one of the most creative guys I’ve ever met. Good chance you might end of up losing your job after reading it for a week though. I’m serious. Try it. He’ll inspire the heck out of you.

Justin Davis- There is no other blog out there that challenges me to work on my marriage and do a serious heart check like this blog. Serious life change is happening here everyday. Unreal!!

Blake Bergstrom- If you know Blake at all you know why it’s a good idea to read his blog. If you don’t know him go read it right now. You’ll thank me.

Grant Jenkins- His authenticity draws me back to his blog again and again.

Pat Rowland- I don’t know anyone else out there who has a passion to see families grow together like this guy. If you’re in any type of family ministry you’ll want to subscribe.

Zach Steiger – Super excited that Zach just came on board this week to lead our student ministry at our Bellevue Campus. If you’re in student ministry subscribe now.

Ketric Null
- Another Student Pastor who just came on board to lead up our Nashville Campus student ministries. One of the most gifted communicators to students I’ve ever heard. You can follow this exciting ministry right from the beginning.

Happy reading friends. Hope you love these handful of Cross Point suggestions.

Got any good new blog  reads for me?

Perceptions Form Relationships

This was the video introduction to our new series entitled “This Is Our God.” I loved going back to the neighborhood I grew up in to shoot this video with Matt. I’ve got lots of great memories from Central Avenue.

I don’t think anyone would argue that our relationships are formed by our perceptions of each other. The story I told in the video above of the Ormond family is one of hundreds of examples I could give of how this has played out in my life.

And our relationship with God is no different.

Nothing in all of life will impact your relationship with God like the way you think of God. Everything in your life consciously or unconsciously comes back to one thing: Whom do you visualize God to be in your heart?

So in this message series and the blogs I write on this topic my main goal is to get you to ask yourself two questions:

1) What do you think about God?

2) What do you think He thinks about you?

If you’re looking for another resource to help you go a little deeper with this topic I’ve found Chip Ingram’s book God: As He Longs for You to See Him to be a great resource.

This Is Our God

I’m really excited about a new series we’re launching this weekend at Cross Point entitled “This Is Our God.”

We’re basing this series off of one of my favorite Tozer quotes where he says…

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. The history of mankind will probably show that no people has ever risen above it’s religion, and mans spiritual history will positively demonstrate that no religion has ever been greater than its idea of God.”

It doesn’t get any more important than this. Nothing in all of life will impact your relationship with God and your decisions more than the way you think of God because for every misconception you have about God there is a corresponding consequence.

What’s one misconception you’ve had about God that has impacted your life?

I Refuse

The uber-talented Josh Wilson has a new single coming out called “I Refuse.”

The video features Cross Point’s volunteers out serving the community during the flood.

Thought it was fitting to post this today as hundreds of Cross Point volunteers are once again giving up another Saturday to serve those impacted by the flood.

It’s been one of the greatest honors of my life to watch this 1,000 year flood become a 1,000 year opportunity for the body of Christ to show the glory of God.

Weekend In Review

What a great weekend!  Don’t want to brag too much but man I love my family and my church. From football and soccer games to a trip to Amish country and ending with our Cross Point fall picnic we had a blast.

The only downside to the whole weekend was pairing up with Jon Acuff at the picnic to play cornhole only to get crushed by two 9 year olds. Brutal and humbling. I’m not going to throw anyone under the bus but John might be the worst cornhole player to ever play the sport. :)

Here’s a few of my favorite pics.

Crazy Busy

Hey Guys! Sorry I’ve been kind of absent around here the past few days. I’m down in Atlanta speaking and doing various things with the Catalyst Conference. Having a blast but we’re working like crazy. I’ll catch you up on everything over the next few days.

For now here’s this weeks Empty Promises “Mashup”. Enjoy!

Empty Promises Mash Up

I keep getting emails from people asking me to stop stepping on their toes in this series. :)   I’ll admit that God has been simultaneously wrecking me over the past few weeks as well.
