Which One Are You Most Looking Forward To?

So I’m starting to get excited about the upcoming Summer Olympics. For some reason I always get more excited about the Summer Olympics than I do the Winter Olympics.

My favorite event to follow is swimming. I love it. Winners declared by.008 seconds. The excitement is intense and it seems like athleticism at it’s best.

I have included a list of most of the summer events and I want to hear from you. Which event is your favorite to watch? Which event do you think they should drop? Is there a sport you think should be added to the Olympics in 2012?

    What Do Dad’s Really Want?

Well, this weekend is Father’s Day. We all know it’s not as big as Mother’s Day and here’s the stats to prove it. According to BIGResearch, a market intelligence firm, consumers surveyed said they plan to spend an average of $31 on their dads, as opposed to the average $41 they said they spent on mom this year.

Either way, I thought I would give you my top five things you should get your husband/father this year. This is my creative chaos.

#5 A GPS Device. We love gadgets. Especially gadgets that keep us from having to humble ourselves to ask for directions. THIS particular GPS device is a rearview mirror, mp3 player and GPS all in one.

#4 An Underwater pogo-stick. THIS little gizmo could be all the rage this summer in acquatic fun. Nothing says “I’m a cool dad” like showing up at the neighborhood pool with one of these.

#3 Punch Mugs. Every man needs one of these to drink his coffee out of. You never know when an inner-office rumble might just break out. Hey, we all know we’re a bunch of white collar wimps, but amuse us anyway.

#2 Radio Control Beverage Cart. Taking the kids to the pool in the summer is hard work. Why should your husband/father have to get out of the pool to fetch his favorite poolside beverage.

#1 A Urinal. I know this is going to cost you more than the lousy $31 you plan on spending, but this is the ultimate. Every man has a dream of owning a home urinal. Why not make this the year you make his dreams come true? Nothing says, “We think you’re the best” like a wall mounted urinal. Home Depot has a wonderful collection HERE (Guys you can thank me later).

So, what are you giving/wanting for Father’s Day this year?

    Don’t Take Yourself So Serious

From time to time someone will make a comment about how “normal” I seem for a pastor. I’m not sure if this is a compliment, but I will take it. One of the things that helps me with the stress and pressure of leading a church like Cross Point is to simply not take myself too serious (not hard to do if your me).

It also helps to surround yourself with people who don’t take themselves too seriously either. At Cross Point, I have the honor of serving with and being accountable to our elders. They are an amazing group that I have the utmost respect for. And one of the things I respect about them is while they are serious about their job, they don’t take themselves too seriously.

This is one of our Cross Point elders, Brian Dishon, who was caught on tape up in Boston earlier this week. This was shot by morning radio host Carmen Brown from the Joy FM morning crew after she dared Brian to do this so see what kind of reaction he would get from people standing around.

Do you think you take yourself too seriously?

    Craziest Thing!

So last weekend I got the opportunity to play in a local golf tournament. This particular golf course in Nashville has a public walking trail around portions of it.

While we were standing on the tee box I saw this lady and couldn’t help but grab a few pictures. Wow….now that is talent. I can’t do a hoola hoop standing still much less while walking. How do you walk and move your hips like that? Seriously, stand up right now and just try it. Go ahead, I bet you five bucks you won’t walk around your office doing it.

So I’m wondering, what’s the craziest thing you’ve seen recently?

    It Could Be Worse!

I know it stinks to be paying nearly $4 a gallon for gas, but the French are apparently paying almost double that at an average of $8.70 for a gallon . I wonder if that is where we are headed?

So how high do you think it will go? How high will it have to get before you start to make some radical changes?

Interested in saving some fuel and money? Here are couple of helpful sites:

    GasBuddy
Get up-to-date prices at pumps around the country. Prices are updated daily by 150,000 consumer volunteers.

    www.fueleconomy.gov
This government-sponsored site provides side-by-side comparisons of fuel economy for most new cars, a fuel cost calculator, tips on reserving fuel, and the latest news on fuel prices. For instance, I learned on this site that you can burn half a gallon of gas just sitting still in your car for 30 minutes!

p.s. No, that is not my wife in the picture and no, that is not our car. Our mini-van is much cooler than that!

    Breaking a World Record?

I read a news report over the weekend that a 76-year-old Nepalese man reached the summit of Mount Everest on Sunday and became the oldest person to climb the world’s highest mountain.

People that break world records always amaze me. If you want to see some interesting ones, you should go to the Guiness World Records site and browse around. If you want to break a world record, you can go HERE and apply.

So here’s what I want to know from you. If you could hold any world record, what record would it be?

For me it’s easy. I want to hold the record for the longest sermon ever preached. I’ve got to build up a lot of endurance though. The current record is held by Dr. Donald Thomas who preached a record setting 93 hours!! On second thought, I might try to break the record for number of watermelons I can bust with my forehead like the guy in the video below.
