Stats Freak

I’m a stats freak.  I love them even though I, ironically, almost failed my “statistics” class in college which was required for my Sociology minor (but I digress).

My new addiction, thanks to Blake Bergstrom, is Geo Hive. This site is full of interesting international statistics like the following graph…

I’ve blogged a lot about our ministry in India but this one simple graph explains why I think it’s so important to have a thriving ministry there.

Where did you go on your last mission trip?

I went to Haiti in March of this year…and will go again next Spring. However, after reading 2 blogs (yours and Angie’s) on your Compassion trip to India, I’ve sponsored little William ever since. :)

Marcus and I just got back from Honduras where I posed as a medical professional, drew blood from unsuspecting people and scared them with my freakishly white teeth. Riding the school bus of death through 2 mountains for 3 hours every day and praying we would not fall off was particularly memorable.

Marcus took blood pressure of at least 500 people, including several nursing mothers who didn’t bother covering up or just let everything just “hang out.” The crew named him “lactation consultant” by the end of the week.

All in all was an awesome experience being able to love on the Hondurans and see how God is using Missions Lazarus ministry to impact so many. I blogged about it here http://owl.li/5Ufhz

    Totally agree about “Stat-Fascination” !

Great graph – thanks for sharing it. You are right, the fast-growing population of India needs the hear the beautiful message of our Savior.

But my, how Heaven must grieve over the stats on the other end of that graph. The primary reasons for negative population growth in both Russia and the Ukraine stem from the lingering effects of godless Communism. These are alcoholism and an abortion rate that is horrifyingly high. Sadly, 55% of all pregnancies end in abortion in Ukraine. Further, Ukrainian women over the age of 20 have high rates of infertility, which many health officials blame on the reproductive damage caused by multiple abortions.

When we “do life” as independent agents, it it solely for ourselves, and we can justify nearly any decision. When the Light of Life illuminates our living, caring for and loving others can become and much higher priority.

May I ask, as you read this, that you might pray for the ministries reaching our sisters and brothers in both Russia and Ukraine?

Went to Haiti in May and returning this Saturday. Following the earth quake God really stirred my heart for that country. It was not until this past Feb that I made the proper connections to go. Let ‘s just say it messed my world up. Especially the children, if we can make a difference in the children we can make a difference in the country. I will return this time with my two children ages 21 and 13, i pray it changes them as well.
