Heaven Is For Real?

Yesterday we launched our new series entitled “Glimpse: Exploring Heaven, Hell & What’s Next.”

As part of the first week we showed an interview I did with Todd Burpo and his son, Colton. Todd wrote the crazy popular book “Heaven Is For Real.”

Regardless of what you think about the book, I love the way it gets us thinking and talking about eternity.

I truly believe we don’t desire heaven more because we have a hard time imagining it.

I’ve been getting super excited about our annual summer vacation to the beach which will be happening in a month or so.

I’m so desiring it because I can imagine it.

I can close my eyes and hear the waves crashing in.

I can sense the wind blowing across my face.

I can feel the sand in between my toes.

I can picture my kids playing in the sand….several miles away from my comfy chair. :)

Bottom Line: You can only desire what you can imagine.

When you imagine heaven what’s one of the things you most look forward to?

The Love Of The Telling

C.S. Lewis nails the greatest fear I have for my ministry in the following quote.

Every poet and musician, but for Grace, is drawn away from love of the thing he tells, to love of the telling till, down in Deep Hell, they cannot be interested in God at all but only in what they say about Him. For it doesn’t stop… you know. They sink lower – become interested in their own personalities and then in nothing but their own reputations.

How scary is that? And it’s not that far fetched if you’re honest with yourself.

It’s very easy when you sing to fall in love with your music.

It’s very easy when you preach to fall in love with your presentation.

It’s very easy when you write to fall in love with your words.

Oh, how I pray I’ll never fall more in love with what I say about God than God himself.

Video Of The Year

So tonight’s the annual CMT Music Awards. I’ll be honest and admit that I haven’t actually ever seen these awards, but I’ll be watching tonight. Many of you will remember that our entire family had the opportunity last summer to go to Maine with our friend, Taylor Swift, to be a part of her video.

Well it’s up for video of the year. I’m guessing this will be our family’s only shot at ever being part of a “Video of the Year” so we’re holding out hope.

You never know!

My Lil’ Rapper

So who says white guys can’t rap.

There’s Eminem.

There’s Vanilla Ice.

There’s Kid Rock.

There’s Will Smith (Oh wait, my bad).

There’s Marky Mark.

OK, so just Eminem, until today.

My favorite thing about technology is that between iPhones, iPads, computers, and Flip cameras kids can make videos all the time. It’s nothing for me to open up my computer and find dozens of videos my kids have made while I wasn’t paying attention.

Case in point. Gage apparently used Brandi’s new iPad to shoot this video the other day. He’s been talking a lot lately about wanting to be a rap star when he grows up.  I found this hidden gem and had to share it with the world. I added a little beat to go underneath it. Enjoy this two minutes of awesomeness.

What up Master Gage? Hit it.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

Billy Graham on “If You Could Go Back?”

I’ve been blessed to be surrounded in life by people who have a lot more experience in marriage, ministry and just life in general.

One of the things I’ve learned to do is listen closely when older pastors are talking. They’ve been there and done it. Their life and ministry experience is so invaluable to me and their words will stay with me for a lifetime.

So, when I recently stumbled on an article entitled “Q & A With Billy Graham on Aging, Regrets, and Evangelicals” I was all ears. I was keenly interested in this particular question they asked Dr. Graham.

“If you could would you go back and do anything differently?”

He’s stinkin’ Billy Graham. What’s he going to say?

I would have run for President?

I would have started a mega church?

I would have squeezed one more large arena event in before getting sick?

Nope.

His answer,

“Yes, of course. I’d spent more time at home with my family and I’d study more and preach less.”

Really? Did you read that? Go back and read it one more time. Let that sink in. This is a man who quite possible has had the largest impact on the Kingdom we’ll ever witness.

We’ve talked about the principle of cheating HERE and HERE before. You’re going to cheat someone or something.

Choose to cheat.

I could be wrong, but I bet not a single one of you are going to near the end of your life wishing you would have preached more, written more, worked more, sold more, or traveled more.

Do you have a favorite nugget of wisdom, guidance, or inspiration from someone that has gone before you?

Plan B For $2.99

I often get asked if I’m sick of talking about Plan B. First of all, you have to understand that I had no idea a year after the book’s release, I would still be getting the opportunity to talk about it.

So no, I’m not sick of it at all.

In fact, more than ever before I believe in the message of hope that lies within the pages of this book.

I’m bringing all this up because I’ve got some great news. As of yesterday, Amazon is running an incredible offer where you can purchase the Kindle edition for just $2.99!!!! It won’t last long but it’s just in time to add to your summer reading list or if you’ve already got a copy, gift it to someone else.

And to all of you who went ahead and jumped on the deal yesterday…Thank you. You have no idea how much your support means to me. Look what you did!
