When Daddy’s Away…

Posted by Brandi Wilson

Pete is out the country in Mexico so I thought it the perfect time to visit the Without Wax community once again, after all you guys are such a welcoming bunch. This Saturday was a big day for Team Wilson with several achievements and milestones occurring all in a 16-hour period and since Daddy wasn’t here to celebrate I thought we could share some pics on here and celebrate together.

Up first, Gage.  He decided to try his hand at “ka-ra-tay” a few months ago and hasn’t looked back.  Tae Kwon Do has really big a great fit for Gage and Saturday he tested for his Orange belt.  He was quite nervous that he’d forget his “moves” and not pass but when the time came it was game on for our sweet boy.

(And you should all know that Pete is the photographer of the family.  I choose to document life via iPhone and Instagram.  Now continue reading about our incredibly cute kids! ;)

From there we headed to the baseball field for the first of two games that day.  Jett had his first game of the season and unfortunately temperatures dropped 40 degrees and it felt more like football season.  I love watching Jett play ball and I have to say Pete would be quite proud of my performance at the game as well… I didn’t yell inappropriately one time.  In fact, when the umpire made a ridiculously stupid call I choose to mutter under my breath instead of publicly sharing my opinion with him.

Between ballgames we fit in an incredibly fun birthday party which included gummy worms hidden in whip cream, hence the cute and tasty beards.

Then what I consider the biggest milestone of the day… back to the ballpark for Brewer’s first tee-ball game.  And let me just insert that tee-ball is the best free entertainment around.  But more importantly is the fact that Brewer attended his first baseball game when he was a mere 8 days old snuggled in a baby carrier on my shoulder… since then he’s been at the ball parks every Saturday of the season for the last four years.  So to see his peanut-sized body in a uniform and cleats kicking in the dirt was almost too much for me, he was insanely adorable.

His first hit made it through numerous preschoolers who were staring at the clouds kicking dirt and landed in the outfield. Brewer ran with his full body and slid into EVERY BASE.  Little man knew what to do from all the observing of his brothers at the ballfield.

Afterwards Jett was once again man of the house and grilled some delicious steaks at Grandad and Nonie’s house. Then the day ended with a sleep over with Brewer’s best friend, Grace.  Honestly, all four of the kids were so worn out they were asleep by 8:30… and I wasn’t far behind.

And that folks is a very full Saturday for Team Wilson.

We’d love to hear about your weekend!  How did you spend Saturday and Sunday?

Wow, those pictures make me miss you guys. Proud of my boys (and their amazing momma.)

Hope to update you guys with some cool pics from Mexico real soon.

The photos were awesome. I am so happy to see kids being kids OUTDOORS these days.

    Love it !

3 boys – all playing baseball. How I loved those crazy days. Enjoy them now – they pass all too quickly.

Sounds like an awesome, busy day! Glad nobody was double booked. Brewer does look terrific in his uniform! Thanks for sharing!

Looks like Team Wilson had a great weekend!

I ran my second ever half marathon in 1:52, which was a 10 minute improvement, and then proceeded to celebrate the accomplishment with a lot of calories and a few drinks. :)

What a great time, Maria… That’s impressive. You deserved as many calories as you wanted!

    • JD in Canada March 28, 2011 at 4:36 pm #

That’s fantastic, Maria!! I’m really excited for you, what a great time!

I’m doing my first half marathon in October. Any tips?!

Thank you. I wrote about this on another blog I have (you can find it from the one linked in my orig. comment– series on running FAQ), but generally– Run your pace, hydrate and fuel properly (every 45-50 minutes), and enjoy the race. Of course, in order to enjoy the race, you need to train properly. Do NOT skip the long runs. If you don’t make your goal time, do not get discouraged. For that matter, my goal #1 is always to finish. #2 avoid the medic tent. ;-)

Wow, and I bet you fit laundry and church in all that too.

Your boys are getting so big and handsome!

I spent most of my weekend doing ministry stuff, but Sunday afternoon I got away and went picking avocadoes in my friends orchard. We then picked some tangelos and lemons. Then sat down to a huge platter of carnitas made by my husband. An amazing God-given afternoon.

I’m insanely jealous of your fresh avocados!!! YUMMY!!!

Good grief, Brandi. Do you sell the kind of energy needed to keep up with all this? I was exhausted just READING about it! But so many fun memories you’re making . . . which reminds me of years gone by when we kept a similar pace. Like Chris said, they grow up waaaaay too fast, so soak it all in, my friend! Thanks for sharing your precious family with us!

Be sure to pass along a great big hola to Senor Pedro on his book tour!

Holy moly that’s a crazy day. Our Saturday began very early with setting up and checking in runners for our adoption ministry’s first annual 4 mile race, Run 4 the Children. I am proud to say I finished my first big road race! It was a big success for us with 450 runners and thousands raised to help rescue orphans. Then I took my kiddos to their school carnival and finally had a date night with my hubby!

    • brandiandboys March 28, 2011 at 10:20 am #

Congrats, Sara. When I finished my first run last year I felt such a sense of accomplishment I hadn’t expected to feel. Love you’re running for such a special cause as well.

Wow, what beats being a parent. Nuttin. We had our usual Saturday morning skateboarding at 6th ave. Sunday off to Dickson to play. No injuries at either venue. ;>)

Gee, and I thought my weekend was crazy busy! Way to go Team Brandi!

  12. Morgan MacGavin March 28, 2011 at 10:09 am #

Aw, looks like such a busy and fun weekend for you and the boys!! They are all so cute and getting big fast! I love how Gage is currently missing teeth–it makes pictures of him doing Tae Kwon Do that much more awesome. :-)

  13. Jessi March 28, 2011 at 10:26 am #

Oh my, Team Wilson is just so darn adorable! Spring cleaning was my agenda this weekend… not as fun as baseball and Karate though.

  14. Melinda March 28, 2011 at 10:29 am #

So glad you posted, Brandi! I’m a reader from outside of Portland, OR. I am a mom of 4 adult kids and can say (from the finished side of raising kids) that your showing delight in your kids accomplishments and pleasures is such great fuel for their growth. Yes, it can be exhausting. It is also a part of great parenting!

My weekend wasn’t quite as full as yours but my highlight was heading to the beach with my family (and our dogs). It was a beautiful sunny day!

  16. cshell March 28, 2011 at 12:21 pm #

I know as a fellow Dad, missing all that must be killing Pete. We have four kids…travel soccer team, drummer, and recent Tae Kwon Do participant as well, we live the “busy” saturday as well.

Really, our whole week is busy, but living it together as a familly makes is all worth it. I try not to take for granted one second of it.

  17. Nonnie March 28, 2011 at 2:04 pm #

So proud of all 3 of you boys and so thankful to be a part of your lives…and Jett, the steaks were delish!

Whew! I remember Karate days….My 3 older all got their black belts…That was after a few years of soccer. I can’t imagine Karate and Baseball!! I am exhausted just thinking about it…But what memories!!
Now, my older ones just want to sleep, listen to music, take pictures, and go to concerts and hang at Rocketown!! Looking for a good non stress dance studio for the girls now…Then I have Rowan!
It will be a fun filled summer for the Wilsons!!!
    Thanks for sharing!!

  19. JD in Canada March 28, 2011 at 4:34 pm #

Could they be any more precious??! (I doubt it!)

Loved the post, Brandi! The boys are growing up so fast. Yay on the orange belt!

This weekend, I was in Michigan with my best friend and ran my first 5k race since God placed me on this “Outrun” journey.

We also solidified some plans for our trip to Africa.

Sunday was the plane ride home, along with a 6 hour drive from Portland Maine to our Canadian corner of the world… getting home at 2am didn’t make it easy to get up for work this morning, ha ha!

    Go team Wilson!
My weekend was nowhere near as exciting. I work weekends :( Agreed, watching little kids play ball is one of the best ways to get free entertainment. I watched a coach-pitch game once, way better to watch than I would’ve guessed.
