The Morning After

Proverbs tells us, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”

This verse reminds me of the capacity within for self-deception. I’m quite regularly shocked at how I can convince myself something that is horribly destructive might actually work out to my benefit.

This is immediately what I thought of when I saw the video below on my friend, Maurilio’s, blog.

Sexual sin is often portrayed in the media as

exhilarating
fulfilling
stimulating
and thrilling.

But here’s a reality check for all of us. There’s always a morning after.

Powerful video, Pete. Moving reminder that choices have an impact and consequences in our lives, choices can’t be undone.

The “world/media” may make it seem harmless and tempting, but we’re made for so much more than the temporal things of this world.

    Thank you for sharing!

    True words–sad words–needed words.

I am reading “Sex God,” where Rob Bell says that the Greek word for lust is epithumia, which means “in the mind.” It made me think how much of my own lustful thoughts are just mind games. Sex with my wife is completely different! So, why do I listen to the my mind so often? I dont know, but I believe recognizing all of this is a start for me

The sobering part of this video is that the “morning after” is not just limited to an affair. There is a morning after so many hurts, habits and hang-ups in all our lives. The media sells us so well on so many of them: sex, drugs, drinking, breaches of character, etc but in the end there is a morning after for all of them. That is what makes Hebrews 12:1-3 so important.

So true Benji. That might be a good book idea…”the morning after”.

    WOW! What a powerful video!

Wow – such a simple, yet dramatically powerful message. No one – NO ONE is beyond this happening to them. As Jody said, it starts in the mind. Nowadays, with sex everywhere we turn, it is more critical than ever to steer WAY clear of any situations that give our mind opportunity to wander off that which is pure and holy and true. The seemingly safe flirtatious comment to a co-worker, the second look at the attractive person in the store, the poor attempt at humor by making inappropriate sexual innuendo (and the accompanying secret desire for an equally inapproprite response), the “innocent” lunch, alone, with a member of the opposite sex can all be recipes for disaster and the beginning of the end of a marriage – or at least an affair-less marriage. None of us are beyond the lure & pull of sexual immorality. The moment we think we are, we have actually moved one step closer than we need to be. Hopefully, all who view this video will see the potential for disaster it represents and think, “there but for the grace of God go I”. I know I did.

    Thanks for posting it Pete.

Powerful video. A great reminder that the adultress woman is like hot coals. Pull her close, and she will burn you.

That’s amazing. I wish every person who is tempted in this way could see this film before they act. I imagine quite a few disasters would be headed off at the pass.

It shows how important it is to ‘play the tape’ all the way through when one considers a new course of action. It’s way too easy to just watch the 1st 5 min and say, “Looks like fun…think I’ll give it a try.”

Powerful. But I think every sin has a “morning after” consequence. Welcome home Pastor Pete.

Welcome Back Pastor Pete. Great way to start us off!

Wow. Watched the movie and saw how haunted this person was by his poor decision to follow his own desires. The consequences were not rehearsed in the mind of this person beforehand so that he was easily led down a path God would not want him to go. I hope many more will watch this and be impacted by it in the same way that I observed.

    Very true, Pete.

I once read that the “fantasy is always better than the reality.” This proves true in light of your comments.

    Thanks.

The timing of this is quite interesting, as I just emailed a friend last night about this. She’s caught in sin, and I actually used the verse you started the blog off with. Here’s to hoping that she takes my words to heart and doesn’t hate my guts for calling her out on this sin, again.

Very POWERFUL! And, it can be extrapolated to so many other types of situations.

Wow! That hits home. Another good book title that could come from this video is “Ripple Effects”. What he was stating in the video was simply the beginning to the ever reaching ripple effects that will inevitably happen…

My response is in this song by Casting Crowns-Slow Fade, the lyrics are powerful.

    A Prayer From Jesus

Jesus I brought this prayer to your people and they rejected it. So I add a comment on the importance of this prayer and your plan of Salvation, again no responses. Finaly with fire and brimstone, mentioned there destanation, it was as if they could not even hear.

Jesus am I to be a profit as unto Jermiah or like unto Jonah. I fill like Jonah, no matter what I wan’t to do, You all ways command me to do this small task, deliver your prayer. Except the results are as unto Jerminah. When not one obeyed when you said rhey will find safety out of the city.

Jesus, you created me as neither but one of power in Jesus NAME. Devel in the NAME of JESUS I bind you in Jesus name. Relese your hold on those who will be called, son’s of Jesus. I command you in JESUS NAME to be gone from all who read this post in Jesus Name. For the glory is yours alone Jesus. I lift your Name up in Praise now, Lord Jesus. Open my eyes in Jesus Name and let me receive from You, this very hour in JESUS NAME.

    – A PRAYER FROM JESUS -

This prayer is from Jesus that we may hear from Him, that He may speak to our hearts. It only consist of three simple steps.

1, We need to read one scripture. This will focus us in the word that brings everlasting life.

2, Since this prayer is from Jesus we need to direct our prayer to Him personally. Too often Christian focuses they’re prayer’s to G_D or Father. Scripture proclaims, that Jesus should be the focus of our prayer.

3, The simplest part of this Prayer is to ask Jesus one question. Please, all that is required for this question is that it should be simple. Let Jesus Himself finish the question when He gives you that understanding through this prayer.

    The PRAYER

    A) The scripture that is the focus of this prayer is “ACTS 2:38″. It’s not necessary to do any study into this scripture. Jesus will give you the understanding that will resonate in your heart. Just read Acts 2:38, keep it in your heart and take this one scripture to prayer

    B) The most important part of this prayer is that we need to direct our prayer directly to Jesus. If you normally would say Father in your prayer, change your focus from the Father to Jesus, by lifting Jesus name up every time you would normally use Father in your prayer.

    C) Maybe the hardest part of this prayer is the question that we need to ask Jesus. For man is always trying to understand the question, instead of listening to the answer. The simplest question is all that is required.
    Simply ask Jesus, ‘WHY’?

    For those who are obedient
