Few things bring out the kid in me like snow days.
I can remember as a kid setting my alarm for the middle of the night so I could wake up to look outside to see if it was snowing. I can remember sitting in front of the television watching the bottom of the screen praying that our school would show up among the list of schools that were closed. I remember playing outside until my clothes were soaking wet and then coming inside to a cup of hot chocolate while mom dried our clothes so we could go out for round two.
I was probably as excited as the kids when we woke up to several inches of snow yesterday in Nashville. And since NOBODY in Nashville can drive in the snow Cross Point took an office snow day. So in between message preparation there was…
snow ball fights
snow forts
sledding
and four wheeling.
I guess there was more play than work yesterday, but some incredible memories were made.
Have you had a fun snow day yet this year?

Here in Baltimore we are expecting upwards of 7 inches which is huge for us. So sledding and fun in the snow will be in our immediate future I hope!
I’ve got the bruising and aches to prove fun was had on our snow day here in Maryville yesterday! Six inches of snow, on a college campus, with woods, hills, and students made for a great snow day. I realized yesterday that we should truly take time to enjoy these times, as we may not get them again. However I do believe I am at the point in age where sledding down a steep hill with tree roots onto a bridge over a creek may not be the best idea. lol
I’ve got a few bruises today as well.
@TAShanks
I was in Nashville (from Ohio) for Christmas weekend and learned very quickly that snow is cause for immediate road rage due to an inability to simply slow down. You’re right… NOBODY in Nashville can drive in the snow. hahaha Thanks for my morning laugh ;~)
Tell Brandi that I LOVE her turquoise hat!
so glad you like it… ally made it for me!!! i love it!
It just started snowing, but we enjoyed some outdoor BB fun. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs1368.snc4/164022_488589771695_699216695_6763785_6703699_n.jpg
We had a snow fun day on Christmas, and the day after, here in the Charlotte area – and that was it. Yesterday, it was far too cold for me and our boy to go out and play in it…and today, there is no way we are heading out considering the .10 of an inch of ice that is on top of the snow now. So we skipped this snow day.
I LOVE snow days!
Unfortunately, we haven’t had one here yet. Probably should have had one today – as there is a ton of snow and more on the way, but the college I work for is still in session. Here’s hoping for tomorrow!
Fun! And…this has nothing to do with your post, but I wanted to let you know about the difficulty in commenting on your blog, in case you are not aware. I have figured out the loophole, but I’m sure there are many who cannot figure it out. When I come to your blog and read any post, I am not given the option to comment, at all. In fact, i cannot even read the comments that are already here. The bubble at the top that says (20 comments) is inactive. The only way I can read the comments is to click on the link of your blog post – and then it opens it up in a separate window. The I can scroll down and read the comments. Just fyi…. hope this helps.
Hey Melissa, thanks for the heads up.
The comment option at the top of the post is now available to click and will take you directly to the page to comment.
part of the reason you had to click on the title of each post was that it had to navigate away from the home page to the single page (www.withoutwax.tv/title-of-post) so that you can then leave a comment.
Also, we have added in a click here to comment option at the end of each post so you can do that as well. Hope that helps and thanks for bringing it to our attention.
much better! i know pete has an awesome community of commenters here who may have been confused. like me. ha.
not a problem. Thanks for letting us know
Pete, I must say that I got all warm and fuzzy inside when I saw Jett rockin’ the OU beanie. LOVE IT!!! BOOMER SOONER
I thought you would like that!
growing up in south alabama, it snowed once in all of my childhood. it was april 1990. my brother and i made a snowman and threw snowballs. we felt like we were in the movies.
now, in tanzania, snow is the absolute farthest thing from possible. but our whole yard is like a sandbox, kind of. so that’s nice…?
The weekend before Christmas it snowed about 4 1/2 inches here in western Wyoming, and it’s slowly built up since. Of course, that’s helped by weather like yesterday’s, when the HIGH was below 10 degrees! But the street-plower helped the kids’ fun by piling up the street snow into a six-foot high heap (and later, after another snow, made it 8′.
The neighborhood kids have had a great time, and our kids (29 and 30) became the “supervisors.” Don’t think I can attach a pic here, but will try to e-mail you one.
The snow’s still here, and so is the pile. That’s unusual, because high mountains 50 to 100 miles from us in 3 directions block most of it.
But what I thought was neatest wasn’t the snow. On one of the really cold evenings, with the temp right around zero, the lights went out. And stayed out. And so did the furnace. We had candles, and turned on the gas kitchen stove for some heat. But then the kids (Bill and Yvette) thought of our 80-some-year-old cross-street neighbor and her handicapped daughter. Did they have head or lights? The kids went over and checked. They did NOT have any light or heat. So Bill and Yvette brought the two of tham back to our house until after the power came back on. I recalled Jesus statement: “As you have done to the least of these, you have done to me.” And I hoped more people had thought of their “neighbors” like that.
Been in Miami for some thirteen years and haven’t had a snow day yet. Maybe I’m just not praying hard enough…
I think your out of luck. If it snows there we’re all in trouble.
Nice!
That was one of the best things about having a mom that was a teacher, I never had to get up early to see if school was canceled. She always got the phone call the night before or about 5AM.
Plus, we’ve already gotten enough snow in the past couple hours that I can’t tell where my yard stops & the drive way begins (a few inches easy), & it’s not slowing down!
I’ve had 2 snow days so far. But it was too much snow to go anywhere. Watching it from inside was fun. I may have another one tomorrow so I’ll have to at least go outside.
I have two words for ya – BOOMER SOONER!
Our first snow day this year was New Year’s day, and it was so fun! Thanks for reminding me of those great memories, Pete! Way cool images, btw!
I haven’t. I have to live vicariously through you guys who don’t live in West Texas. Ethan (6) keeps asking when is it gonna snow. That’s hard to explain to him.
I grew up in Oklahoma and I don’t remember ever having a good snow day. We always had ice.
Now I live in Germany and the snow finally melted after being on the ground for over a month!
Looks like you guys had fun. Did you actually ride the four wheeler on snow days when you were a kid?
I’m right there with ya. I feel like such a little kid when it snows mostly because growing up on the coast of southern California it never really snowed. It snowed in the mountains but never at sea level where we were. The one time I remember it happening I was in high school and all of us reverted to single digit ages of ourselves. This last Christmas was my first white Christmas and I could not get over it, I was smiling all day.
Been snowed in for the past two days…7+inches in SC shuts down everything! We have had enough fun/memories to last a long time these past two days….
sledding, snowball fights, building forts, airsoft wars, more sledding, oh, and a warm fire and hot chocolate!!!
Being from Ca, I guess the kid in me still comes out, I could not sleep waiting for the snow to come. I kept jumping up, and looking out the window. There are some things that keep us young, and this just might be one of them. love seeing that beautiful white stuff coming down.
Yes, our first official one! Sleeping in was the highlight around here.
That’s always a plus!!
No we haven’t. And I’m ready for one so I can hang out with the kids in my student ministry and go sledding somewhere!
Not yet.
It is snowing out right now but none of it is sticking.
Snow day? What’s a snow day? =)
It doesn’t snow where I live in California, so I don’t get the luxury of a free play day in a winter wonderland… I would have to drive an hour up the mountain to get to play in snow.
Looks like you guys had a great day!!! Love the pics! I spent some time at Percy Priest yesterday and made a snow angel on the rocks! Laughed my butt off! So much fun.
