Video Magic
I love making videos. I remember the very first video I ever helped make was a Miami Vice spin-off called “Nashville Vice” when I was nine. My neighborhood friends and I carefully sketched out each scene. I played Crockett and my best friend, Scott, was Tubs. We shot our final scene on the ramp to 440 off of West End Avenue, just minutes from our Cross Point Nashville campus. At the time 440 was still being built around Nashville so it made for a fun place to shoot creative videos.
These days I’m blessed to get to mix my passion for shooting videos with my other passion of telling people about Christ.
I’m hoping one day my son, Jett, may mix those two passions, but these days he’s mixing our shared passion for making videos with his passion for football.
The other night I got to go down to Vanderbilt University to catch up with Kevin Mawae (former Titans player and current president of the NFL Players Association) who I was shooting an interview with which will be part of our Cross Point service this weekend.
I took my son, Jett, with me so he could hang out and watch Vanderbilt practice. When I went to sit down and shoot the video with Kevin I gave him my phone and he went over to the sideline.
Later that night I found this video on my phone. I wondered what he was doing the whole time I was doing the interview. I think this one is going to be an instant Without Wax classic. I did no editing to the video except for adding a little soundtrack for your enjoyment. Do yourself a favor and watch all 90 seconds of this awesomeness.

Sign that boy up!
My youngest makes video on my phone all the time. I’ve been dying to share….might just have to find a good one to post!
awesome video! now you just need to get the vanderbilt football team to watch it.
[oh, and i was afraid a lot of your readers might not get the crockett and tubs talk -- but then i decided that miami vice has probably been remade at some point without me realizing it. did you see the new a-team?]
Sweet!
It’s been all pink (lil girl) around my house the last couple years. But my wife and I are expecting a boy any day now and this gives me something to look forward to. One day, we too will know “how to tackle people”.
Thanks for sharing.
And please know he will start by practicing on you Daniel.
From the first note i knew that was going to be awesome…and FYI, the last tackle i’m pretty sure was a “helmet to helmet” hit, expect a fine coming
I think he would be so proud of he could get “fined”.
That was incredible! He tackles better than most of the guys I went to high school with…proven by their 2-8 record my senior year (I say their because I stopped playing by then).
Good call on the music too.
That. Is. Awesome. Haha, my little guy’s not quite 2 and for the past year has been running around the house throwing his little football down yelling touchdown. Players of the future.
lol… “we know how to tackle people” .. that was rich… still giggling…
“Now you all know that I am Jett and I know how to tackle people.”
LOVE IT!!!!
Pure awesomeness. I’m seeing that at his wedding rehearsal dinner a few years down the line. ; )
The problem is I’m going to have so many great video to choose from at his rehearsal. Not sure where to start.
I say… with all your great footage, you should plan on doing a montage…
He is too funny. Love it!
i love that he is tackling in skinny jeans…
haha!!! love that you noticed he was tackling in skinny jeans!
Love this!
That’s awesome. Did he come up with the tag “I know how to tackle people” all by himself? Hilarious.
Elias likes to wear his “sockah bull” pajamas… is that a good sign?
Pure awesomeness! I loved it. It looked like he was running out of steam there at the end, but he was trying to psych us out for the big finish.
“Now y’all know…..that I’m Jett……..and I know how to tackle people.”
That is freaking awesome Pete! I bet you’re extremely proud of your boy! Thanks for sharing.
i hope he slept well that night…that is hilarious — he is full of energy and talent at that
Now you all know that I am Jett and I know how to tackle people – one more reason to love that kid! He cracks me up!
Awesome!
So awesome, thanks for sharing!
Pete, I hope you have a few thousand dollars laying around b/c if Roger Goddell sees this video you guys will probably be facing a fine for some of those vicious hits! That was awesome.
Matt
If you know me or read my tweets you know i’m a HUGE Dawgs fan. Since i was little, i’ve always wanted to knock the crud out of a tackling dummy. That. Was. Awesome!
Please tell Jett we’d love to see him slobberknock at UGA in 10 years
I’m sure it will be on his list of places he’ll want to play.
Love the big buildup to the end. The kid has dramatic ability.
Boys are so awesome.
My dad was a football coach — I had my own pads and helmet — lets just say blocking and tackling has come in handy in my life!!!
Thunder Struck was played in the locker room before every football game I played in, great choice. Great job Jett on form tackling: keep your head up and wrap up!
Loved the ode to Varsity Blues as the soundtrack!
I made a video in 6th Grade that was a sequel to Back to the Future. I pray that it never sees the light of day, lol.
Great Job Jett!
He’s even got the swagger as he walks back on that last tackle. That was epic tackling. Could he teach the UT Vols that technique?
I wondered if anyone would notice that swagger. He cracks me up.
Total Awesomeness!
I’m pretty sure everyone down the hall just heard me laugh out loud…that was hilarious! I love how he looked over his shoulder at the dummy as he was getting some running room for that last tackle.
Oh man that was a GREAT vid. That last hit was hilarious because of the 50yd run up and the grunt. And after all that, not a hair out of place. HA.
I think Jett and my boy would get along great. Although, I’m not sure I’d like to see the result of that combination.
This is Awesome with a capital AWE….
Quite a boy you got there, Pete. Thanks for sharing.
Bubba
i hafta show everyone i know this video.
Jett is so awesome! LOL. I love how a few times it took a few seconds for him to get all the way to the ground because he’s not as heavy as most football players. Made me laugh! I miss your boys!
The good news is he will not be fined by the NFL for leading with his head…technically solid. Love the creativity.
That is sooo precious! My husband often finds videos made by our 8yr old daughter on his phone too. They are priceless and absolutely precious!!
Put a smile on our face, thanks for sharing!
that is AWESOME!! thanks for sharing your little ones with us!
i’m still laughing & smiling!
AWE-SOME! Loved it. My hubs & I just cracked up – such a good video & love his enthusiasm & professionalism setting up the shot & wrapping it up at the end. Now, all I want to know is what football supplier sells those inflatables? My fearless boys (8 & 6) would love those! Great job, Jett! You sure know how to tackle.
They could make a killing couldn’t they.
That is awesome Pete!
He definitely has a future of him – either as a football player or a video producer.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYY…. its a classic alright… he is gonna GO SOMEWHERE!!!
Oh my gosh this video is awesome. Sean has already started practicing his best tackle on daddy…and Madison ha!!!! Love it!
I love his opening monologue! Awesome
love how the minds of kids never quit!
this is stinkin incredible
What a great way to burn some of that boundless energy. I want those things in my garden for my 9 year old boy NOW!!!!!!
Slayed me. I especially love the long wind up near the end where Jett is out of the frame for a moment and then builds up that incredible head of steam for that last tackle! You go tackle people Jett!
dude he got after it.
I think I would be afraid to be tackled by him.
Trust my Kyle…It does not feel good when you’re just standing there in the living room in your pajamas checking the texts messages from the day before and he comes at you full speed like that.
please hold on to this, so it can be incorporated in his wedding slide show one day.
perfection.
I like the grunt he makes on the initial hit and the attitude as he “gets after it” Good form too! Can he play quarterback? I’m just saying.
That is just too much!! He’s a great little filmmaker – and tackler! I was watching this and thinking that this is what I miss being the mother of little girls. Then it hit me – who am I kidding! I’ve got a 4 year old who would run with equal enthusiasm and skill at that tackling dummy!
Here’s my question though – do the big boys execute that killer leap before hitting the tackling dummy, or is that just something 9 year old boys have to do in order to hit the dummy at the right spot?!
Good question. I’m actually not sure.
All I know is – if I’m going down a dark alley I want Jett and his tackling people skills with me!!!
Not sure if he’s a future american footballer or sports journalist!!
I think I know what I’d get that boy for Christmas…those tackle things.
What a sweet video.
Brilliant! I’m all over that.
That was an awesome video. Looks like Jett could tackle the world after seeing that video. Go get ‘em Jett!
I’d rock a “Don’t Mess With Jett” t-shirt or bumper sticker!
I’ll get them printed up Chris!
Time for pads, dad. No more flags! Sorry, Brandi…
I think you’re right Jody!
Wow! That’s great! Jett has real personality. A boy to be proud of!
hysterical! Can I ask what type of phone you have that takes decent video? I have a Flip which is great, but I’m not aware of a phone that produces quality video. Thanks!
I’m never messing with your kid! haha! He tackles hard! Just think what he’ll be like when he’s older.
Wow! He is vicious. He is making us rethink our plans for a March Nashville trip. Do not want to run in to such a mean character!
Alex and Maddie thought it was hilarious.
thats my homey. SWAGGER-IFIC
Awesome Video Jett! I learned a thing or two! Way to go!
