We Finally Have A Baby Girl | WithoutWax.tv by Pete Wilson

We Finally Have A Baby Girl

For years we’ve debated whether or not we should try to have a girl. We’ve always thought it would be great to add a little pink to soften things up around the house.  Not sure if you’ve heard the rumors but it’s true: The Wilson’s finally have a little girl.

We’re now the proud owners of this little Brittany Spaniel that we picked up on Monday. I’m not sure if her feet have touched the ground yet as all the boys want to do is carry her around everywhere.

However, she has caused great division in our household already and we need your help.  None of us can agree on what to name her so I thought you guys might help us by voting on which of the names below you like best as well as possibly throwing in a new suggestion of you have one.

On the table right now we have…

Millie

Maggie

Portland

Swifty.

And yes, we did buy her a pink collar. :)

Which one do you like? Have another suggestion?

Kinda looks like a Maggie. Or you could just go with Heidi. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve shared my name with a dog. :)

  2. bill (cycleguy) November 10, 2010 at 7:09 am #

I would say the one Brandi chose would be the smart way to go. If momma ain’t happy… :) However, if you go with Portland why not Nashville?

  3. Amy November 10, 2010 at 7:10 am #

She looks like a Maggie to me!

  4. Anna November 10, 2010 at 7:12 am #

    Congrats on the addition ;)
Oh and Maggie or Portland. (not Swifty)

  5. becca November 10, 2010 at 7:12 am #

I think Swifty would be pretty neat.

  6. Luke W. November 10, 2010 at 7:15 am #

    I like Portland and Millie.
I had a Brittany Spaniel but she ran off or got stolen. Sad day. Great dogs!

  7. Jamie November 10, 2010 at 7:16 am #

I love Millie, but I have a daughter named Maggie. Congratulations!!!

    • J. Johnson November 10, 2010 at 7:24 am #

Ditto for me – my daughter is a Maggie, but I would going outside and yelling both names – which is easier? You’ll be calling for your puppy quite a bit!

  8. Jennifer November 10, 2010 at 7:16 am #

Having had a Maggie myself, I love the name. But your little girl looks more like a Millie to me. :)

  9. Aaron November 10, 2010 at 7:18 am #

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say your sons chose “Swifty”? Taylor would be so proud… HAHA!!!
    I’d go with Maggie, myself.

  10. Brian November 10, 2010 at 7:20 am #

Yeah, I think Maggie is perfect the little one. Congratulations on the new addition!

  11. JamesBrett November 10, 2010 at 7:21 am #

isn’t swifty a kind of broom or paper towel or something?

i like the two ‘m’ names best. you know woodrow wilson had a daughter named margaret? making her… maggie wilson.

  12. Robyn (3girlsmom) November 10, 2010 at 7:24 am #

I used to have a Springer – not a Brittany, but close – named Jubilee. LOVED that dog. I like the name Portland. Swifty is cute, too – especially after the last few months y’all have had….

    • New York Mary November 10, 2010 at 11:15 am #

Jubilee is a terrific name for a dog! Some room for variations as nicknames … Jubbie, Lee ..

  13. Kayla November 10, 2010 at 7:26 am #

    She looks like a Millie

  14. Shelley November 10, 2010 at 7:29 am #

Hmm…always a tough choice when you’re trying to name a pet.

My first thought was Maggie from your list. Or, how about Peanut, Hush Puppie, Carmel, Kitty…

  15. britt savage November 10, 2010 at 7:34 am #

congratulations!! does this make a second dog? or did I miss a post about him not being with us?

  16. David November 10, 2010 at 7:37 am #

I would go with Millie. Maggie would be a far second.

  17. erika November 10, 2010 at 7:43 am #

Maggie. I knew another Brittany Spaniel named Maggie and she was a great dog.

  18. Lori November 10, 2010 at 7:44 am #

I vote for Maggie. Beautiful dog.

  19. Makila November 10, 2010 at 7:54 am #

    Maggie! :)

  20. Melissa Irwin November 10, 2010 at 7:54 am #

I like Millie and Maggie. ;-)

  21. JD November 10, 2010 at 8:05 am #

Since there’s Brewer (Maine!), Portland (Maine) would be fun and unique.

There are a million dogs named Maggie — so if not Portland, I vote for Millie.

    Some other ideas:

    Daisy
    Jasmin/Jazzy
    Gracie
    Penny

  22. katdish November 10, 2010 at 8:10 am #

My sister had a Springer named Minnie. Swifty? Hmmm….that’s an interesting name. You do know those dogs are hyper as all get out, right?

  23. dan November 10, 2010 at 8:14 am #

Well, I’ve neer been one to name something after a city, so my vote is for Maggie.

But, have you thought about letting her decide?

When I was about 6, we adopted a spaniel & we also couldn’t decide on a name, so we let the dog choose. I know it sounds crazy but this is how it happened…

We wrote down the top 4, maybe 5, names on pieces of paper. Then put all the names on the floor (with the dog in the room) & waited to see what she would do. Turned out she really liked the name ‘Lucy’ because after sniffing each name she picked up that piece of paper, took it to the middle of the room for all of us to see, & sat on it.

We ended up having more than 10 years with her & that was always one of our favorite memories.

  24. vicky November 10, 2010 at 8:25 am #

Since spaniels are high energy and can be somewhat hard headed Millie would be the perfect name for here. It means strength and determination

  25. JC November 10, 2010 at 8:31 am #

    Maggie. Hands down. :)

  26. Morgan MacGavin November 10, 2010 at 8:31 am #

Oh I love Portland!! She is so cute! Congratulations on the new baby! :-)

  27. Laura Anne November 10, 2010 at 8:33 am #

You can’t call her Portland!! lol! And Swifty sounds like a boy doggy name.

Maggie or Millie. I think she looks like a Maggie though. :)

  28. Tapper November 10, 2010 at 8:33 am #

    MaggieDotTV
    or just dotTV

  29. Tonya November 10, 2010 at 8:35 am #

She looks like a Millie to me! But, I do like Maggie too….

  30. eileen November 10, 2010 at 8:37 am #

I think she looks like a Millie but I think Portland is a little more original!

  31. tom November 10, 2010 at 8:37 am #

Girlie would seem to be appropriate. Here Girlie rings a bell and keeps giving you your girl everytime you call.

  32. Jessica November 10, 2010 at 8:37 am #

I say Taylor or Swifty based on this period of your life! Very cute! Jett looks smitten!

  33. Beth November 10, 2010 at 8:41 am #

    Lucy. Sasha. Dot!

  34. Tabitha November 10, 2010 at 8:41 am #

    Millie or Daisy…

  35. Veronica November 10, 2010 at 8:41 am #

I like Millie! By the way, the puppy is super cute!

  36. Lance November 10, 2010 at 8:43 am #

Congratulations on the dog, I do not know if anyone stated this above, but imagine yourself calling out for the dog in your housecoat from the front steps holding a newspaper and a cup of coffee. It is a tried and true measure in every fathers life. All your neighbors will know that name, and what your bedhead looks like. Maggie is the truest pure dog name that passes that test in my opinion. Good Luck

  37. Elizabeth November 10, 2010 at 8:51 am #

I like Maggie, but I think Brittany or Daisy is good too. Or what about Delilah since little girls take daddy’s strength to be mad away when they are bad and look at him with those puppy eyes!

  38. Jackie November 10, 2010 at 8:51 am #

MILLIE IS SO CUTE BUT SO IS MAGGIE.

  39. Lesa November 10, 2010 at 8:55 am #

Mille and Portland sound like good names lol… Maybe you should name her Elizabeth :) haha

  40. Elizabeth November 10, 2010 at 8:56 am #

For future use, Maggie can be shortened to Mags, and that rhymes with wags. This may come in handy at some point.

  41. Kristen November 10, 2010 at 8:56 am #

    I like millie and Maggie!

  42. Bruce November 10, 2010 at 8:56 am #

gotta say – Maggie sure sounds like a family friend. one who will chase away the storm clouds and bring a smile to everyone’s face regardless of what’s going on around her. say it with me – Maggie!

  43. Sara November 10, 2010 at 8:56 am #

    Millie

    and my suggestion is Gigi.

  44. Timbo Fowler November 10, 2010 at 8:57 am #

My two have names, but I call them Pretty Girl (even though one of them really isn’t, but she backed down a rattlesnake in my yard once so she’s a keeper!).

  45. David November 10, 2010 at 8:57 am #

My next dog will be named Deohge (pronounced D O G) in honor of a K9 dog in Fl that was killed in the line of duty…don’t know if that works for a girl or not, but a clever name.

How about just calling her “Cuteness”. She’s cute and it’s different (from the movie Master of Disguise).

  46. jennifer November 10, 2010 at 8:57 am #

Go for Maggie!!! I had a Maggie May and she was AMAZING! :-)

  47. Ally November 10, 2010 at 8:58 am #

    She looks like a Millie.

  48. Danaye Taylor November 10, 2010 at 9:00 am #

    I vote for Maggie

  49. Kathy White November 10, 2010 at 9:01 am #

I am the mom of three boys (in 3.5 years!)and insisted when we got a dog that we got a girl! We love our Golden Retriever Millie. : ) She is the best dog EVER!

  50. Alyssa November 10, 2010 at 9:02 am #

    what about izzie or gracie?

of the ones listed, millie is definitely the best.

  51. Maureen November 10, 2010 at 9:03 am #

I like Portland… not sure why, but its a cool name :)

  52. jan Owen November 10, 2010 at 9:06 am #

My mom and dad just got two little Brittneys. We named them Bama and Tide. But we’re from Alabama. :)

She’s got red on her. Name her Rosie.

  53. emma November 10, 2010 at 9:06 am #

Congratulations on your baby girl! I like Maggie. She looks like a Stella to me.

    • brandiandboys November 10, 2010 at 1:51 pm #

I love Stella as well!!! Good suggestion.

    • sheri November 10, 2010 at 2:19 pm #

Didn’t Steven Wright do that bit? He also said, “I spilled spot remover on my dog. Now he’s gone.”

      :)

      • sheri November 10, 2010 at 2:19 pm #

Wait, that went in the wrong place – it belongs a few posts down…

  54. Mon November 10, 2010 at 9:09 am #

    Call her November.

  55. Jewell November 10, 2010 at 9:09 am #

How about Tennessee? Shortened to Tenny

  56. Amanda November 10, 2010 at 9:10 am #

Portland wouldn’t really flow when trying to call her. I agree with the person who said Swifty sounds like a boy. She looks more like a Millie than a Maggie.

  57. katdish November 10, 2010 at 9:10 am #

I’ve always wanted to name a dog Stay, so when I called it I could say, “Come here, Stay! Come here, Stay!”

Then again, I dress my Dauchund as a chicken on Halloween and Santa Claus at Christmas, so I suppose you should consider the source.

    • Shelley November 10, 2010 at 9:20 am #

I so love that you dress your dog up as a chicken – that would be so funny!

  58. Kelsey Lantz November 10, 2010 at 9:12 am #

Maggie and Millie are way to over-used for dog names…more half my friends have dogs named Maggie. Portland and Swifty are more original…plus Swifty would just be fitting seeing how your year has gone ;)

  59. Michelle Kapusta November 10, 2010 at 9:12 am #

You could go with a surfer name, since all your little boys look like groms :-) . How about Roxy, Billie or Lulu. And just dropping hints, maybe you guys should plan a trip this way next summer- we’ll get u out on the boards & make surfers out of you yet!

    • Shelley November 10, 2010 at 9:21 am #

Gidget would work as a surfer girl name…from the movie, of course.

  60. Alison November 10, 2010 at 9:13 am #

We had a beautiful brittany girl growing up named Pumpkin. It was the perfect name. She was a handful though – good luck you guys!!

  61. Ron Roark November 10, 2010 at 9:13 am #

Portland. My choices would be “GaGa”, “Pepper” or “Katey”

  62. lah November 10, 2010 at 9:16 am #

How about “Slim”, girls always like being called slim

  63. Jenny November 10, 2010 at 9:17 am #

I definitely think Maggie is the best name. What a cute dog!

  64. gothiquefae November 10, 2010 at 9:19 am #

    I vote for Maggie
    G

  65. Warren November 10, 2010 at 9:20 am #

I vote for “stop chewing that!” Because she will think that is her name anyway over the next 10-15 months. But if I gotta go from the list Portland stood out as a cool dog name.

  66. Melissa November 10, 2010 at 9:23 am #

My vote is for Millie – love it!

  67. Carolyn November 10, 2010 at 9:24 am #

She looks like a Millie to me.

  68. Cindy November 10, 2010 at 9:26 am #

I like Swifty given the boys love of Taylor but another cute one is she kind of looks like a Chelsea

  69. alison November 10, 2010 at 9:28 am #

I am gonna vote for Swifty! I love it!

  70. Moore4Christ November 10, 2010 at 9:29 am #

Maggie! It fits her perfectly! Good luck….Democracy is tough!

  71. Regina November 10, 2010 at 9:36 am #

I’m not sure I like Swifty, but I think just Swift might be cute… otherwise I vote for Millie!

  72. Karen Duncan November 10, 2010 at 9:38 am #

    Beacon
You need a beacon to help guide your navigators (Jet, Gage and Brewer) to their destinations.

Large beacons can be a lighthouse — there is your connection to Portland…

    Huh huh…

  73. robin November 10, 2010 at 9:41 am #

This post sure got the masses to come out of their computer and comment! :-)

    I vote Maggie.

  74. Jason November 10, 2010 at 9:46 am #

I had a bulldog names Maggie when I was a kid so I’m kinda partial to that name.

  75. Bill Renfrew November 10, 2010 at 9:49 am #

Millie or Maggy. I can’t decide.

  76. paige November 10, 2010 at 9:52 am #

    millie or maggie…total cuteness

  77. tracy November 10, 2010 at 9:52 am #

PORTLAND! My home! VERY cute puppy! CONGRATS : )

  78. britt November 10, 2010 at 9:52 am #

I vote for sasha too!! of course, then you guys could debate on spelling!

  79. Michelle November 10, 2010 at 9:57 am #

My kids vote for Ms. Thing! (must be said with an attitude they tell me) This is coming from kids that named their cat “Mr. Lucky Paws”.

  80. Chris Loach November 10, 2010 at 9:59 am #

Portland…even if Seattle is a better city.

  81. Nigel November 10, 2010 at 10:04 am #

How about having a Brandi, jr.? If not, maybe you could name her Dionne or something else that is unique. My only question, though, is whatever happened to Bix?

  82. Frank November 10, 2010 at 10:08 am #

Maggie would be good, however not Portland, not sure why you would name a dog after a type of cement.

Think someone had suggest the name your wife suggested, lots to be said about “Happy wife = Happy life”

  83. Sarah November 10, 2010 at 10:11 am #

If she’s a Brittany Spaniel why not go with Brittany? Obvious yes, but there is a cute factor to it.

    Or go for Millie.

  84. Lori November 10, 2010 at 10:13 am #

She looks like a Millee …..silly Millie

  85. Jessi November 10, 2010 at 10:17 am #

    Millie or Portland

  86. kristen November 10, 2010 at 10:18 am #

Kind of looks like a Maggie to me… congrats on the addition by the way, she’s a cutie.

  87. Leslie November 10, 2010 at 10:23 am #

SO cute! Personally, I don’t think “Swifty” or “Portland” roll off the tongue…I like Millie or Maggie. And of those two, she seems like a sweet Millie to me!

  88. Todd S November 10, 2010 at 10:36 am #

Looks like a Maggie, or a Matilda.

  89. cameron November 10, 2010 at 10:36 am #

    Millie

  90. Kevin Martineau November 10, 2010 at 10:46 am #

I like Millie and Maggie. I am partial to names that end with the sound “ie” though. :)

My three daughters are Bethany, Sydney and Mallory. Our two dogs are Gabi and Gracie. :)

  91. Sherie November 10, 2010 at 11:06 am #

Being from Portland, that name seems weird to me. :)

I would go with what rolls off the tongue easily as you call her, especially when frustrated. Our dog got her middle name that way, however it was my grandmother’s middle name so we were sworn to secrecy around the extended family.

  92. Kelita Deems November 10, 2010 at 11:09 am #

    Portland

  93. Emily November 10, 2010 at 11:12 am #

One – I think this is the most comments I have ever seen on here.
Two – Don’t think this is helping you decided.
    :) Good luck!

  94. Tatum November 10, 2010 at 11:12 am #

    I like Millie! Very cute!

  95. Brooke November 10, 2010 at 11:25 am #

I’m SO stinking excited to hear you finally consented to and got a dog! Your lives will be all the richer for it!!! She will show you the true definition of UNconditional love. I hope she brings many happy years to your household. I’d name her Maggie.

  96. Andrea November 10, 2010 at 11:26 am #

She’s a Maggie for sure! How cute!

  97. Mike in Milwaukee November 10, 2010 at 11:31 am #

Maggie. Without question. In fact, Maggie Mae would be even better!

  98. Margaret November 10, 2010 at 11:32 am #

Everybody names their dogs Maggie. How about a name from one of your favorite books? i.e. Charlotte (Charlotte’s Web), Lucy (Chronicles of Narnia), Pippi (Pippi Longstocking), etc. Very cute doggie, by the way.

  99. Beth M November 10, 2010 at 11:50 am #

Since she is a Brittany Spaniel you could name her Brittany! I like Maggie also. She is cute.

  100. DisneyCyndi November 10, 2010 at 1:34 pm #

Millie just because I want to hear you say it with that Nashville accent! :) LOL

  101. brandiandboys November 10, 2010 at 1:55 pm #

interesting… both of MY choices are in first place. how do you feel about that, honey???

    • Brittany November 11, 2010 at 9:40 am #

Just please don’t name her Brittany :) (I can just hear the boys now….my teacher at church/ I mean my dog… nope not good :) )

  102. britney November 10, 2010 at 2:10 pm #

My vote is for Swifty because it’s such a nifty name!

    • britney November 10, 2010 at 2:11 pm #

and I don’t think you should name her Brittany.

  103. sheri November 10, 2010 at 2:14 pm #

Oh I vote for Maggie!! I’ve had a terrific sheepdog named that for almost 11 years.

    Margaret Rose, to be exact.

It’s good to have a formal and middle name to use when she’s in trouble (just like kids!)

  104. karenth November 10, 2010 at 2:20 pm #

    Maggie. Definitely Maggie.

  105. Jill November 10, 2010 at 2:26 pm #

She looks like a Millie to me.

Id like to make a different suggestion. What about Shelley. She has the coloring of sea shells.

  109. anna November 10, 2010 at 3:48 pm #

What happened to the cute pup you guys got for christmas that year?

    Also, I VOTE MILLIE!

    HEY PETE!

You all just came back from Disney… Why not Minnie??
If not that, then I vote Maggie…

  113. Carissa November 10, 2010 at 6:19 pm #

I’m definitely outvoted here, but I dig “Portland” too. I think it’s unique and has a nice ring to it! “Heeeeeeere Portland. C’mere… Portland. COME! Come, Portland. Come HERE…now. Portland, COME!!!! OH, PORTLAND! DROP THE DEAD SQUIRREL!! Portland, LEAVE IT!!” :)

  114. Gina November 10, 2010 at 6:57 pm #

    She looks like a Maggie.
    Cute pup.

  115. Debbie Wickwire November 10, 2010 at 8:27 pm #

Our new little girl (yellow lab) is Bella but yours definitely looks like a Maggie.

  116. Larry Hehn November 10, 2010 at 9:34 pm #

I couldn’t help but think – with all boys, what’s missing is estrogen. How about a variation on that word…

    “Esther”

    Cute, feminine and Biblical too!

  117. Vickie November 10, 2010 at 9:40 pm #

Ok, I’ve thought about this and I’ve come up with “Jegabre” but call her Gabby. I’ll let you figure out where the name comes from. She’s a cutie pie.

  118. Candy November 10, 2010 at 9:43 pm #

My old college roommate named her dog “Phideaux.” She was a French major (the roommate, not the dog).

  119. gitz November 10, 2010 at 9:55 pm #

my favorite dog was named “Scout” (from To Kill a Mockingbird)

  125. sandy n. November 11, 2010 at 7:34 am #

    She looks like a Maggie!

  126. Aundrea November 11, 2010 at 7:39 am #

We had a beautiful, spirited Brittney once and her name was Molly. It fit her little personality perfectly! I like alot of the names you listed, but seriously, let your wife choose. :)

  127. Kelli November 11, 2010 at 7:47 am #
