Summertime

Few things say summertime like the good old Slip-N-Slide. There have been some unbelievable technology breakthroughs in the past 25 years that now entertain our kids on a daily basis.

However, a piece of plastic with a little water on it never goes out of style.

What’s your favorite thing about summer?

A ball, a bat, a glove, and my five year old son.

Hard to beat that. My 4 year old asked me this morning before I left if I would play baseball with him outside when I get home!! Love it.

the field of sunflowers in full bloom a mile from our house, fresh corn on the cob and home grown tomatoes, long stretches of daylight, the beach, watermelon, family vacations, and air conditioning (just keepin’ it real)

what i like most about the summer time is the color purple, macaroni and cheese, ruby red slippers, and a bunch of trees.

i also like shaking and wiggling to hip hop songs. oh, and stealing bikes.

girls that wear abercrombie and fitch aren’t bad, either.

my very favorite thing about summer is daydreaming about autumn, winter, or spring

    :-(

i do occasionally like to go to the pool with my kiddos.

    That the trees have leaves.

    Naked trees are just… gross.

So I guess you could say that I like summer’s modesty.

Water and theme parks :) They never grow old even when you become an adult….

My favorite part of summer is getting watermelons from my uncle’s garden. They are the sweetest watermelons and you can’t beat free watermelons either.

      What about sweet tea?????

      • Angela July 29, 2010 at 12:28 pm #

Have you ever made iced tea with Bee Balm leaves! Put enough sugar in it and it will beat any sweet tea out there, I promise!!

Taking the kids down by the Harpeth so they can have “bentures” and explore, splashing at the Kingston Springs Splash pad, all the fresh fruit, and picnicks

    • pete wilson July 29, 2010 at 8:35 am #

We haven’t been down the Harpeth yet this year. How is is after the flood?

Not sure exactly what you’re looking for, but we go in at Ulrich Landing and wade around. I like it because with three kids between 2-4 I never feel it gets too high (about my belly button). At first this summer there was a lot of silt, but each week we go back it clears out more. We have found Crawdad’s, tadpoles, baby frogs, lots of fish and the kids just have a great time. We set up a picnic lunch on what would be sandbars if they weren’t so rocky and spend almost every Thursday at the river. Y’all are welcome to join us some week.

That there is sunshine and warmth. My feet and hands arent cold all the time. That kids get to stay home. I can sleep-in any day of the week without worrying about morning rush and being on time. That the Plants are green and have flowers and fruits. That we are outdoors more. Theres more “different” veges available at the market. Fruits taste better. We see people outside.

Never! Slip and Slides just plain rule!!!

My favorite summer thing is campfires with smores at night after a day of swimming :)

I am all about going to the Lake

  16. Melanie July 29, 2010 at 9:53 am #

Up here in the Pacific NW – the thing I look forward to the most is seeing the sun and feeling it’s warmth on my skin!!

Oh… and roses… love the roses blooming!

We went to a high school graduation party this past weekend, and the hit of the party was a very long slip-n-slide. All ages were having the time of their life!

  18. Moore4Christ July 29, 2010 at 11:38 am #

Floating on my floatie in the pool and blackberry cobbler with blackberry ice cream!
BBQ meat for dinner, fresh corn on the cob, hammocks, good books and warm nights! Church outside in the ampitheater!

  19. Julie July 29, 2010 at 1:12 pm #

The river, the family, friends, and canoes. Not to leave out a campfire with hotdogs and smores at the end of an all day float.

Pete…great hearing some Thin Lizzy – the boys are back into town – the wilson boys that is…

Hugging our daughter at the airport when she returns home from school for the first time since Christmas. Then watching her look of surprise when she sees how tall her “little” brothers have grown. Priceless!

Every 3rd of July (yes, 3rd) a buddy of mine and his wife throw a party…hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream…basic stuff.

The big draw, though, is the 100ft slip’n'slide.

They have a killer hill in their front yard, and over the past couple years have made it a little more extreme by placing a ramp under it about halfway down that, if hit just right, will launch you into an inflatable pool…if not hit just right…well, that’s a different story. :)

I think it’s worth noting here that there is NEVER any alcohol at these parties.
Also not at these parties: common sense! ;)
