A Whirlwind Tour of DC

Believe it or not, I’ve never been to Washington DC. I’ve wanted to come for years but just never had the opportunity. When I was invited to speak at the Multisite Forum here in DC put on by the Church Multiplication Network,  I was so excited (could use your prayers as I’m speaking this afternoon around 3).

I’ve been on the road quite a bit lately and really missing my family so I decided to take Jett with me for our first father/son trip. We came up a day early and spent most of the day yesterday touring DC.  Spending July 5th, the day after our celebration of independence, at places like the Capital, Washington Monument, WWII Memorial and The Lincoln Memorial was really special.

Since I don’t speak until this afternoon, this morning we’re going to check out the International Spy Museum. Late tonight we’ll catch a plane to Maine for a highly secretive project. :) I’ll give you more details later but right now all I can say is it has something to do with the following statement I twittered on Sunday…

Most random thing that happened to me so far this weekend? Getting a call from @taylorswift13.

I have never officially been to Washington DC…but on my first trip to Zimbabwe and back, I had a layover in DC and my flight got cancelled so I had to get in a cab to go across DC to a different airport, to get home. I had just been in a neglected country for 2 weeks where the government cares nothing for the wellbeing of its people. I end up in a cab passing by the Washington Monument, the Pentagon and just the beat of the city in general. I wept in the back seat of that cab. It was an amazing “God ordained detour” to allow me to appreciate the freedoms offered in the USA.

Can’t wait to hear about the Taylor Swift story.

I’m honored to intercede for you! Enjoy your trip.

So did you see the Air and Space Museum? Because we lived in the DC area for nine years and any time we were looking for something to do (we have two girls) my hubs would always say, “Hey, wanna go to the Air and Space Museum?”

Glad you got to see some of the city though…its a great place to visit!

Sounds like great fun and a super memory-builder for Jett. We’ll pray for excellence at your speaking engagement!

Praying for you, Pete! Have a great time in DC, but watch your wallet near the Treasury Building (IRS, etc.)

  9. Sarah July 6, 2010 at 10:49 am #

Glad you two enjoyed DC! It’s an amazing place to visit, but a much better place to live. I love the Air and Space Museum. It’s my favorite of them all.

You are finally in my area…but I am on vacation. Man. And to think I could have gotten an autograph on my copy of “Plan B”
Did you visit the two-story Target? :)

Looks like you guys are having fun.

    • Pete Wilson July 6, 2010 at 2:55 pm #

A two story Target? I could have lured Brandi here had she known that.

      • Jay Doak July 6, 2010 at 3:14 pm #

The target is crazy, even has a special escalator for the shopping carts

        • Sarah July 7, 2010 at 5:23 am #

That Target is awesome. I did ALL of my shopping there. Target tends to have everything you eould need but this one in particular is extra special in the “has everything” catagory.

        • Jessica July 8, 2010 at 10:40 am #

I love that escalator for the carts…just remember to remove your child first. :)

Welcome to my 2nd favorite city!! My big brother and his family live there and the monuments and museums NEVER get old! So glad you and Jett are getting to take in all this history together and on the perfect weekend. :)

Praying for you today! You’re an awesome speaker & God will no doubt shine through you this afternoon.

Can’t wait to hear the Taylor details!!

  15. gitz July 6, 2010 at 3:26 pm #

I loved seeing the pics of you and Jett on Twitter last night… So cool that he’s old enough to really enjoy the time away with you. What I really loved is how much you enjoyed him. You’re a great dad.

And I got the inside scoop about your top secret mission. All I can say is, are you freaking kidding me??? ;) Have fun!

We live outside D.C. and find it to be family friendly during the school year when it’s not so hot and crowded. We take the trolley, which is fun for all and stops everywhere. Your boys would love the Museum if Natural History as well as Air & Space. Great job getting around with a child and still loving the city. On my first date with my husband, we walked from Union Station, through the mall, monuments, and museums all the way into Arlington and then Georgetown in the summer heat. Being our first date, I didn’t want to complain. But yikes! So glad you both had fun!

are you involved in that Russian spy ring they just broke up?… or is it more like a Taylor Swift street team.

  18. Connie July 6, 2010 at 10:06 pm #

Glad you enjoyed your tour of our city. I wish you would speak at a DC/Va church sometime. It is my dream to hear you in person. I would visit Nashville and Crosspoint if it was possible. Well, maybe after hubby and I retire in a few years!!!

I love DC! I have family on the Maryland side of it and still don’t get to visit as often as I’d like. The holocaust museum is also a must see. Have a great time!!!

  22. Jessica July 10, 2010 at 9:05 am #
