Another Great 4th!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. If you’ve read this blog for long you know it’s one of my favorite holidays. Brandi and I always host a party at our house with a massive fireworks display as the center of entertainment.

Our little show has grown over the years and man, do we have a blast.

For the first time ever we allowed cameras into the very secretive, dangerous, inner workings of the fireworks show. :)

Enjoy!

How did you celebrate the 4th?

Unfortunately, we don’t get to celebrate it over here… but I’m loving living vicariously through you! ;) Very Cool!!!

I am laughing so hard at you guys! LOVED the “Watch yourself!” followed by the “OW!”

Seriously, though, that’s probably the sickest backyard fire display I’ve ever seen–you guys deserve an honorary pyrotechnics degree! :)

My 4th was spent with friends downtown watching a pretty impressive display.

Happy post 4th of July, Pete!

I’m just wondering… were you the authorized Nashville display last night?? Those were great!! Loved the swirly ones… we went easy this year, burgers at home went out to local county display about 10 last night… had a wonderful time… glad to see you all did too…

    Awesome!
The law keeps that out of Oregon :(
    I threw snappers last night.

My youngest is our firework guru. When he was in high school he made sure his class had them at football games, on their homecoming floats, at their graduation, etc. He and a few selected friends would manage a firework show to display their presence at every event. Needless to say the Principal banned the use of all fireworks at any event but it was great while it lasted. They had a blast doing it and it put a smile on many faces. He has now moved on to bigger things “blowing up things that is”. Things I want mention just in case small kids are reading this. Don’t want to give them any ideas

Pete will you please come to Morgantown with your crew of men and take care of our fireworks next year!? That was better than our display in ton last night! That was an amazing show, I’ sure the kids loved it! Hope to see you and Brandi again soon!

We could be the new “Catfish Festival Pyrotechnic Team”.

Very cool, Pete. It’s been a few years since I’ve done a show like that. We did fireworks as a father/son thing at our house. It became a coming-of-age tradition for me and my siblings to be invited to leave the audience and join the show. Those are some good memories. Thanks for sharing!

The backyard fireworks display set to music was beautiful! However, I equally enjoyed the men whooping it up as they launched the fireworks. Great job, guys!

We celebrated by going to the same place in our local community. A 22 minute fireworks spectacular, preceded by a Beatles cover band, funnel cakes, hot dogs, frisbee, soccer, and a little dancing :) A great family time for everyone.

Whoa. You weren’t joshin’-that is likely the largest backyard fireworks display in America! So amazing!

Question: it goes by so fast, how do y’all keep up with who has fireworks in which tube? Y’all were so close to lit fuses i was holding my breath! Praise God it was beautiful & no injuries.

And +100 for the Taio Cruz muzak :)

Ally- I wish I could tell you all of our secrets. :) The reality is there is no strategy whatsoever. You just get in and light as fast as you can. :)

      • Ally July 5, 2010 at 8:58 pm #

Well clearly there’s some method in the madness ’cause it was “one bad mother”. Super cool!

Oh, and when you dropped the box of black dynamite i thought for sure you were about to become Arzt from LOST.
        Be. Careful. ;)

    That. Was. Awesome.

  12. Makeda July 5, 2010 at 11:20 am #

That was awesome! Looks like you guys had a really great time. Thanks for sharing. May have to find my way to Nashville next year :)

Looked like a chaotic war zone … I am jealous.

Unfortunately it rained in KC so there was no fireworks display last night :( . However, Saturday night my cousin and her husband got a bunch of fireworks and we lit them in the street and threw some firecrackers down in the drains :)

  15. Tina Dee July 5, 2010 at 2:28 pm #

Oh my gosh! That was fantastic. Well, husband and son are gonna want to come to your backyard to watch the sky explode next July 4th. It was fun to watch on video, can’t imagine being there. Thanks for sharing!

  16. Jill July 5, 2010 at 3:12 pm #

I loved watching it when it got around 2:40 when I could actually see the fireworks instead of your alls’ butts!!!!

  17. Tina Mitchell July 5, 2010 at 3:22 pm #

First one I have missed in 7 years….

  18. Amber L July 5, 2010 at 3:30 pm #

You did a video last year too…pretty sure…I think it was one of the first times I looked at your blog! :) BUT…that was AWESOME!!!

I worked, then had a microwaved grilled burger, then went to watch the fireworks in Wheeling, WV…

Lovin’ the DC pix! Have a blast!

We went to the lake to hang out with our parents. We ate way too much, went fishing, and had homemade ice cream. Then my dad took us – via boat – down the Tennessee River to watch the big fireworks show. They played “Sweet Home Alabama”, then the National Anthem, then the fireworks. Lots of hooting and hollering and at least 200 boats watching from the river. I loved it!

  20. Carrie July 5, 2010 at 4:43 pm #

hmmmm I’m going to show this to my fire marshal husband…he inspects fireworks shows for safety and this looks a little suspicious :) :)

  21. Jessica July 5, 2010 at 7:14 pm #

I always worry with so many pastors/church staff near such dangerous stuff but every year you all prove yourselves! Maybe if we get anymore dangerous we wear safety gear? The ow’s scared me a bit but very nice display! I’m in Ohio visiting my 91 year old grandma who raised 3 girls during WWII when her husband was fighting. Didn’t see fireworks but enjoyed quality time with a wise woman!

  22. Scentsy Bricks July 5, 2010 at 9:07 pm #

I spent the time with my wife and her family shooting off illegal fireworks. Was it worth it?

    Oh yes.

Oh, and I went swimming for the first time in like, a decade.

  23. Becky July 6, 2010 at 6:26 am #

That was awesome! I went to a baseball game with my family and friends.

  24. cshell July 6, 2010 at 7:24 am #

That was ok ;) Maybe we can pick a neutral site next year and have TN vs. SC firework off? :)

  25. Shelby July 6, 2010 at 8:48 am #

Man we would be arrested if we did something like that in NC. hahaha I loved it, I spent my whole weekend at our 4th of july festival, its what our town is known for

  26. Jon July 6, 2010 at 9:13 am #

    Awesome!

  27. laurie van cura July 6, 2010 at 9:24 am #

Holy moly Pete! Thanks for the behind the scenes look. The fireworks were awesome, but what was more impressive was how much fun you guys were having. I was cracking up just hearing the adreneline in your whoops and hollars. What a great team of crazy guys enjoying serving others. Good stuff.

  28. britt July 6, 2010 at 6:52 pm #
