There are few things I enjoy as much as camping. I’m blessed to have a family that loves the outdoors as much as I do. We take several camping trips a year and our first one of the summer is generally on Memorial Day weekend.
This year we went with some friends to Fall Creek Falls and had a blast.
A few of my favorite highlights:
- Watching my family climb all the way down to the base of Fall Creek Falls.
- Following the stream to the edge of Piney Creek Falls with Jett. Standing over the edge of a 200 ft. drop always makes my knees shake.
- Listening to the kids sing Taylor Swift around the campground.
- Watching a massive Large Mouth Bass swallow the Perch I had on the end of my fly rod. For about 5 minutes that dude gave me the ride of my life.
- Fishing with the boys. I watched Jett land his first fish on a fly rod. He was so excited!
- Crushing this guy in frisbee golf.
- Went for my first ride on a road bike.
- Sitting around the campfire and laughing at stories until my side hurt.

This is great. You are a blessed man.

I’ve got a long way before I’m officially in that club. Loved the bike, but not the vicious dogs.
there’s an art to dealing with dogs while cycling. and every rider’s got his own way of doing it. i tend to unclip my boot on the side where the dog is, while at the same time grabbing a water bottle. i pull that foot back, so that letting it swing forward would use my speed to strike a dog pretty hard. but long before i get to that point, i loudly yell “no” and squirt the dog with water. sometimes the “no” works, and almost all other times the water makes the dog retreat long enough for me to ride away. only twice have i had to kick the dog.
part of your problem, though, is riding in backwood tennessee. though it’s better than alabama. i pretty much gave up road riding in my home state.

Beautiful shots of a gorgeous family! It must be so awesome to get away to these spots, away from everything for a while, to connect with your family. Mini-revitalizations, I’m sure!! Hope you’re having a great holiday Monday. We had ours last week.
Looks like a good time for the boys. My family is from Spencer TN approx 7 miles from where you guys are. Got to love Van Buren County the least populated county in TN!
Fall Creek Falls and Stones River were two of my favorite places to be….can I just say I’m a tad bit jealous??? Dallas has nothing like that!
Looks like a wonderful, relaxing time was had by all!

Fall Creek Falls was the first Tennessee Park we explored in the summer of 2003 when we moved down there. Alex was about 1.5 years old and tossed a Nemo water bottle over the edge of the falls. We couldn’t believe she did that and then she asked “Where did Nemo go?”…a long ways down.
It is a beautiful park. I still carry fond memories of it.
We spent the last three days in Eagle River, Wisconsin…swimming!!! Very warm so far this time of year.
