3 Words That Changed Everything

easter2007

Doing some final study for my Easter message and just can’t get over the power of the Easter story. Wow! Part of my text for this weekend is Luke 24:5-7

5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; He has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7′The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ “

I think we can build a case that the three words “He has risen!” might just be the three most powerful words ever spoken in this universe.

So here’s what I’m wondering. Help this text come alive for me.

What do the three words “He has risen” mean to you in your life?

They remind me not to get stuck in a moment of pain, confusion and fear. They remind me to hope in the face of despair. They remind me there’s always more than what I can see.

To me it means that Jesus is a game changer. From that moment on, the rules of the game are different. And that means that we win.

    They mean hope for mankind.

  8. Kyle Reed April 3, 2010 at 7:49 am #

The words “He Has Risen” bring about a feeling of hope knowing that life does not stop at death. Seeing our Messiah conquered the grave and knowing that our life does not stop at death brings about great hope.

He Has Risen Indeed. as Matt Maher puts it.

Christ has risen from the dead
    trampling over death by death
come awake, come awake, come and rise up from the grave
Christ has risen from the dead
we are one with Him again
come awake, come awake, come and rise up from the grave.

They mean everything. Without those words, everything else I’ve read and been taught is simply an empty promise.

What do the three words “He has risen” mean to you in your life?

They mean my sin is white as snow. I know my sin. I know my black heart as a judging, self-righteous, hypocrital, holier than thou thinking kind of heart. I know my sin is disgusting. CHRIST ROSE! HE IS RISEN!!! My black heart, disgusting sin, dirty rags…all of those things are items Christ cannot even look on. God, our Father, absolutely CANNOT look on that. Yet, Scripture says in Psalm 42 “The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.”

How is He looking down on me?

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
    Isaiah 1:18

God can ONLY look upon me because Christ died on the cross and ROSE AGAIN for me.

In Psalm 136 “Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.”

    Amen and AMEN!

“He Has Risen” proves He is who He said He was. This isn’t about some kind of do-it-yourself religion of rules and regulations. This is about recognizing that the God of the universe did, in actual fact, visit his creation in human form and make good on His promise to undo the damage done at the Fall. The head of the serpent has been crushed. Death has been defeated.

    Because “He Is Risen”….

We can have victory over our sin.

    Death cannot hold us

We will one day rise to live with Him forever

This is my first Easter as a Christian and they bring tears to my eyes. Those three words mean a new beginning, and my life can go on forever, glorifying Him. Wow, just wow.

  17. Jimi April 3, 2010 at 11:15 am #

Because “He rose” I too will rise..regardless of how impossible it seems right now! Jesus’ resurrection has provided me with hope. This allows me to know that I can overcome all things :)

It means that even after my stupidity of sin and darkness that there is everlasting life in Him.

As the old song says, “Because He lives I can face tomorrow!”

Proof. Proof that all that He taught and did is true. If He hadn’t risen our story would have changed drastically!

    “It is finished.”

Pete, I have been thinking about those words all day. Three words that have so much power. Power to change the world. Power to change my life. Power to change how I view everything. Because once I realized that He died and rose again for me – a sinner who needed a Savior – I was forever changed. That was just five years ago this Easter. It is still hard for me to believe that He laid down His life so that I could live forever with Him for all of eternity.

It is amazing to see what He has done in my life and our family since we laid down our lives for Him and because of the price He paid for us. Since that day – He has brought 7 more children into our home – redeemed them forever too! His love amazes me and constantly reminds me how blessed I am to be adopted into His family forever!

Let us never make any holiday about anything other than our Savior – Jesus Christ.

It was Jesus + NOTHING! Today it is still the same message. He died. He paid the price in FULL! He rose again! He is alive today so that you and I can forever be in fellowship with our Father in heaven. How blessed are we!

Happy Easter and Resurrection Day to your family Pete! Praying over the message God asks you to deliver tomorrow to His children who are needing to hear from HIM!

    Blessings,
    Jill

It means that it is finished. There’s nothing I need to or even can do because Christ has done it all and taken my punishment so that I can be free.

“He is risen” = “Nothing is forever” or = “In Christ, everything can live again, even the most difficult of circumstances”

  27. Stan April 4, 2010 at 7:59 pm #

For me, it’s all about hope beyond this life. If Jesus doesn’t come out of the grave, then there is no hope of anything beyond our own death. And that hope leads to the confidence that I will live with God forever. Confidence that I am no longer guilty in God’s eyes. Confident that my faith is not useless or vain. Confident that I will see my dad again, who passed away at 41. Can’t wait to see him again.

Coupled with a rival trifecta of powerful words, “It is finished.”, these words mean that freedom has been moved from a social construct to a cornerstone of eternity. I often wonder if Satan had any clue until it was too late. Can you imagine the look on his face when that stone rolled away and all that could be seen inside was a few rags?

    Sweet freedom.
