10 Billion Tweets

Twitter just celebrated its 10 billionth tweet. That is a lot of tweets.

Thanks to Mike Foster I saw this amazing graphic which provides us a glance at the breakdown of Twitter’s first 10 billion tweets courtesy of social media consultant and Mashable contributor Muhammad Saleem.

Despite the fact this graph shows that close to half of all tweets are pointless babble I’m still in love with this current form of social media. I’m meeting people I would never have met and having conversations I would never get the chance to have any other way.

    I love this! I may totally steal this for a post on my blog. :) I really dig Twitter for so many reasons. One of my favorite things about twitter is the way it has revolutionized watching live tv/pop culture events like award shows or breaking news. Consider events such as the Haiti quake or Michael Jackson’s death. No longer are we glued to our TVs waiting for commentary and play-by-play from pundits and key players, but all of a sudden, everyone can engage in the global discussion in real time. Love that!

    LOVE twitter. I love the mundane as well as the big crazy stuff, because that’s the best part of life with friends. Sharing the simple things… seeing the pictures from the park or hearing about random happenings. To me, Twitter shows more of real life rather than the life people try to front sometimes. I like that.

    Had a friend get me hooked on twitter…love it! It’s really cool to connect with people. I’ve had the chance to connect with Christian artists as well. Loved the video of the worm situation. I’m a preschool teacher and was laughing hysterically. Kids can be so funny and so intelligent!

    I think you misread the post slightly there…

    As far as I can tell, it’s not Twitters 10 billionth tweet… it’s the milestone of reaching 10 billion tweets PER MONTH!!
