Divine Appointments

I remember it like it was yesterday. In reality it was just over a year ago. The date was Tuesday, January 20, 2009. I was leaving the next day for a trip to Atlanta and I was in desperate need of a haircut.

I was in the programming office complaining about my situation when Miranda suggested I try Heads Up in Bellevue. She said you could walk in without an appointment and there was a girl named Racco who cut her hair from time to time and she attended our Cross Point Dickson campus.

I took her up on her suggestion but when I walked in they said Racco wasn’t working. Instead I found myself sitting in a girl named Kim’s chair. We started to talk and found out we had so much in common despite the fact that she had been burned pretty bad by religion growing up.

I invited her to Cross Point and although she was reluctant to try it she would eventually start attending. Several months later while getting my haircut, Kim would confess to me she was addicted to prescription drugs. She would bravely allow us to help her get connected to a treatment program.

Kim’s been drug free for 6 months now.

Sunday I had the chance to baptize her.

Isn’t God cool?

God is AWESOME! I love divine appointments and have had some great ones through the years. The best part about them is you never know when they are going to happen!

I know. I’m trying to learn to treat each interaction as if it might be a divine appointment.

Dude…that’s so cool…seriously just got some goose bumps…I think most of us have had these divine appointments…the crazy thing is that when we go looking for them they are not as likely, but when we least expect it God moves in a huge way…

The 11:30 service Sunday was just PHENOMENAL, but it was the baptisms that thrilled my soul. And witnessing Kim’s baptism right after seeing her story on the video . . . well my tear ducts went into overtime. And they just cranked up all over again after reading your post.

Oh my goodness, how AWESOME is our God!

Beautiful story! Makes you think twice about all the small decisions we make on a daily basis.

(On a side note: I lived across the hall from Miranda our freshman year of college! Small world.)

God is good . . . all the time. All the time . . . God is good (Sorry, couldn’t resist–thing we do in our church. Think congregation echoing second part–scares the bejeebers out of visiting pastors when the congregation yells it out after an unsuspecting “God is good” from him/her!).

Anyway, this reminded me of an interim pastor we were blessed with a couple of years ago. He had these “divine appts.” on an almost daily basis. He rocked our world, and our faith, on more than one occasion with his reports of divine appts. Amazing what can happen if we’re really “listening” to God and sometimes, if we’re blessed, even when we’re not listening!!

I’m not going to watch the video at work–baptisms make me cry every time (okay, confession: Hallmark commercials make me cry, but I’m just saying . . )and I’m sure this one will be no different, probably worse.

Sorry, rambling . . . thanks for this, Pete. Blessings,

All of you are using your spiritual gifts and talents to create a Church environment where people can be saved redeemed and grow in the grace of God. Note to self: do not read posts like this at work because they make you tear up, sniffle and cause coworkers to freak out thinking something is wrong, when they are really tears of joy! : )

Great video, although it looks like the cameraman was a little nervous that he was going to drop the pastors phone into the baptismal.
