Red Rover

Laughter may not fix everything, but it sure is a good place to start.

They had never heard of Red Rover in the Khalpar slum until yesterday.

What’s your favorite childhood game?

Mine? Freeze Tag.

I love the work you do among the children of the world. One of the most touching things I have seen…from a simple game of Red Rover.

Kick the Can…there were so many kids in my neighborhood growing up and it was all ages and we had huge games with teams…so much fun! Red Rover was a good one too…and Capture the Flag if there were lots of people.

This video clip was really fun to see…some things truly are universal! Still praying for you all…

Loved Red Rover as a kid. Great video Pete. Made me smile this morning! Safe travels. Prayers for you and your team.

Smiling right now! Thanks for sharing this video. And Pete, remember to smile, too!

My favorite game? Hide and Seek. Our whole block of kids would get together, many of us changing our clothes to dark ones so that we could hide better. Elaborate hiding schemes, moments of terror followed by instantaneous bursts of laughter when discovered – those were the days I remember of Hide and Seek. Praying for you, Pete, as you put smiles on these kids and give them HOPE.

    Mine was called Butts up.
We played this before school started with a racketball and a huge wall. It was awesome…

I think we’re going to need to see a video of this one Kyle. :)

Oh Red Rover! Wow….huge flashback of my elementary school’s playground days.

Thanks for sharing this video… I love the watching the smiles/laughter of these beautiful children who are enjoying their childhood despite what is stacked up against them.

Makes me reflect on how in our country, so many children lose touch with these simple joys with all this technology.

Praying….you are doing such wonderful things.

I never thought a game of Red Rover would make me cry so much. Please hug those children for us. They are so beautiful. You all, and those wonderful people & children are in our prayers.

My favorite game? Duck, Duck, Goose!

I’m an only child. I grew up waaayyy out in the country with no neighbors. So I read as a child, or did more solitary activities. But at school my fav game was Kickball! oh yeah!

In 4th grade I got a “B” in PE because one day it was really cold and the PE teacher said “Girls, it’s cold so stay inside and jump rope. Boys, you (who are obviously tougher!) can go outside and play kickball.” I thought this was STUPID and went out and played kickball with the boys. I got a B and had to apologize.

I loved kickball and it was the beginning of my problem with following illogical directions and rules. :)

LOVE this! Gentry and Oharah made me play this video over and over. My kids were laughing along with these sweet pumpkins. I told them that I used to play Red Rover when I was in “Brownies” at 7 years-old. Oharah said, “Mom, you must have been so cute when you were young!” Wasn’t quite sure how to take that one ;-)

Thanks for allowing us to laugh and play along….

I love the joy of those kids!
As for my favorite game, it would have to be sardines. Sorta like hide and seek but only one person hides and everyone else seeks. When you find the one hiding you hide with them. So fun!

    Kick the can!

  23. John Wright February 6, 2010 at 6:45 pm #

As a kid: kickball and milk carton baseball.

As I got older: suicide (a painful game with a tennis ball and a wall). When I was the youth pastor, I’d play this with the guys before Wednesday church. We’d all come in bruised and sweaty. Awesome fun.

I remember anything that had to do with guns. We played army, cowboys and Indians etc. I probably wouldn’t suggest this for you though, different kind of Indians.
When I got a bit older baseball, basketball and football became the things to do.
Every once in awhile a good game of hide-n-seek.
I’m praying for you brother. Thank you for keeping us up to date.
