If You Were Trapped

So my favorite show EVER is about to start it’s final season. Brandi and I have been watching LOST since it launched five years ago. I can’t believe this is the final season, but I’m ready for answers to some questions I’ve been asking for a while now. I’m totally bummed I’m going to be in India for the season premier a week from today. Maybe, if I’m lucky, I can find internet access somewhere and watch it the next day online.

lost

It’s hard for me to get on a plane these days and not think about what it would be like if our plane crashed on an island and I was stuck living with the people sitting around me. I know it sounds horribly morbid, but it does enter my mind. Who would be Kate? John Locke? Sawyer?  Hurley? I always imagine myself in the role of Jack. :)

Made me wonder…If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which show would you choose?

That’s so funny! I went to Thailand with Habitat for Humanity in November, then to Australia for a few days and had to fly from Sydney to LA! I actually thought about what I wore on the plane just in case…

Something tells me you would take other people’s thoughts and opinions into consideration a bit more than Jack Shephard has, although you could fit well into the leadership role. Just don’t do any surgery on me. :)

I can’t believe you’re going to miss the premiere! I’ve been counting down the days too. If you have to fly through Detroit, you can stop and watch the recording here. :)

    • Pete Wilson January 26, 2010 at 8:58 am #

It’s the leadership aspect of Jack that I want!

    • Shellie (baylormum) January 26, 2010 at 5:12 pm #

Hi, Sheri. I had some friends from Amarillo, Tx on that Thailand/Habitat trip. Steve Smart, for sure-He’s exec in Amarillo.

Oh, too bad I didn’t meet him… It was a great trip, though!

    I. Can’t. Wait. For. Lost!

My husband is not the die hard fan I am, but I’ve been hooked since the first season. I can’t wait to have some season long questions finally answered. I sure hope you get to see it while you’re in India. Praying for a safe trip for you and the team.

I started watching this show when I was in South Korea for a year. They type of cable I had was more like having DVDs downloaded from the internet. I had never been into this show while I was at home (Canada), but because of lack of English programs in Korea, I started watching this one (and others I normally didn’t watch).

I was only able to get up to season 3, and when I got back to Canada, we were on season 5. I still need to see the 4th and 5th, but I think at some point that will be DVD purchases. Anyway, I don’t want to watch this season without having seen the previous two! Going to be hard not to read spoilers throughout the season!

This past summer, I went to Australia to do half of my teaching internship. One portion (on the way back), like the above post mentions, was Sydney to L.A. I, too, kept thinking about LOST while on that flight, and prayed for safety!

Put me in “Castle” with Betty in whatever the character “Becket” likes to wear! Our favorite show by far thanks to witty one-liners, good mysteries and some implied romantic sparks between stud-writer Castle and hot-cop sidekick. And they ALWAYS solve the mystery. Nice closure. Life should be so simple.

I with Tom on Castle – I love the one liners! My husband saw the previews and actually started me watching – he just knew that was my kind of show. I will be Castle’s Becket:)

then again, this is coming from the same person who hides LOST easter eggs in his christmas card every year. Can you find all 6 in this year’s card?

    cannot wait.

I would so totally love to be “trapped” on NCIS. I absolutely love that show and would love to hang out with Gibbs and the gang! I think it would have been really fun to have been stuck on the Cosby Show too- I really liked that show as a kid.

  9. Tony York January 26, 2010 at 7:58 am #

OK. So I thought it would be fun to list a few and why.

Iron Chef – Cause they eat good.
Little House on the Prairie – Cause I want to make sure Carrie doesn’t fall down while trying to run do the hill.. just once.
Waltons – Cause just ONE time, I would like someone to take me seriously when I say “Goodnight John Boy”
Newharts – Cause they have a nice Bread and Breakfast and I would really enjoy hanging out with Larry, Daryl, and Daryl
Survivor – Cause if you get bored with it after a week, you can get the people to vote you out.
Murder She Wrote – Cause someone needs to tell Angela to stay at home because everywhere she goes someone is getting killed. Talk about an albatross.
Mutual of Omaha – Cause someone needs to tell Marlin Perkins that’s not right that the other guy is always doing the dangerous stuff.
MASH – Cause they put the fun in dysfunctional community… and someone needs to help Colonel Potter with his singing of “I like to go swimmin with bow-legged women.”

Oh.. I could go on… but you get the drift.

Oh my word those are the funniest comments on those shows. I too was always frustrated by Carrie falling. Makes my back hurt watching her little foot fly up. And I grew up with my brother making fun of Marlin Perkins saying, “look out, Jim, he’s coming behind you!”

I love me some LOST. True story, my wife and I took our laptop on our honeymoon so that we could get caught up on season 1 on DVD…and missed a connecting flight from Miami to San Juan. It was worth it. But, if I had to be trapped, it would have to be on either Modern Family (purely for the entertainment) or Heroes (because who doesn’t want to have superpowers?).

  11. Monica Hunt January 26, 2010 at 8:10 am #

  14. Sarah S January 26, 2010 at 8:17 am #

Gilmore Girls. Easiest question to answer. It’s the best show ever. Small town, big personality. There isn’t a lot to do, which i feel is the reason the main characters are quippy (if that word exists) and intellectual. oh to be a Gilmore girl!

It’s not running anymore. It was kind of like Dawson’s Creek, but less angsty (most of the time) and it kind of felt like it was directed by the Micro Machines man from the 1990s.

Ohhh man. I’ve read your blog for months and this is the post that finally brought me to comment. Pete Wilson’s cool level just went way up because he watches Lost. Ha! There is so much that I would give up to be on the island. It’s sad, really.

  18. jamie January 26, 2010 at 8:27 am #

I would agree that I would like to be trapped in LOST. I have had a trapped on a desert island fantasy since way before that show came out!

And of course I would want to be Kate, minus the ex-con status. I have a hard time seeing you as Jack because you can’t perform neurosurgery!

I also like another person’s idea about Little House On The Prairie. I have always thought I would like to live during that time, but that is probably because I actually don’t. It was probably a hard, stinky life.

  19. Katey January 26, 2010 at 8:27 am #

I watched Lost from the very beginning and then I didn’t watch last season. I have been slowly watching the episodes on the internet of last season to catch up. I am definitely going to be watching this season! :)

I think I would have to say Criminal Minds. I know it is creepy most of the time I just enjoy all the people on the show.
Chuck would be my second choice.

  20. Lindsey Nobles January 26, 2010 at 8:41 am #

General Hospital. Kidding. Kidding. Seriously no one is ever happy on that show.

I am surprised at how many people picked Dramas. Like life is not full of enough of it already ;)

Going out on a limb and saying Entourage. I would love to just sit around and laugh at Turtle and Drama.

I so wish I knew what was going on in Lost. The name is perfect for the mom that pops in and out of the room while doing dishes & talking on the phone & facebooking. My family loves the show, but you know, if you catch bits & pieces of it, you just can’t follow it. Flash forwards. Flash backwards. What?

I’m not a fan of TV, right now I can’t think of any I’d like to be stuck on, but I can think of plenty I would really hate being stuck on…

Hoarders: ‘Nuff said. Especially if I need a month’s worth of TV episodes to cure the issue!

Extreme Home Makeover: Life’s been hard enough, and I don’t do fancy very well.

The News: If you’re on the news for a month, something’s gone wrong, way beyond wrong.

24: Brilliantly written, but imagine a month of that? Do they sleep? Have you ever seen Jack eat a meal? And let’s face it, it’s not like the terrorists give him an hour or two a day for Bible Study. It just can’t be healthy.

I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant: Seriously. On second thought, maybe that’s why I’ve been sick for months. That would be a happy ending… I wouldn’t even have to feel dumb about being on the show — I’ve been spayed, I’d have NO reason to suspect it! OK, Pete, that’s the one.

Babylon 5. It really began the “plot arc” concept in modern-day television. A fantastic sci-fi space opera. The first season can be a little rocky in places, but after that it’s 100% solid from cover to cover. On DVD and iTunes.

  41. Krista January 26, 2010 at 10:22 am #

AHHHH I LOVE LOST!!!! I’ve watched it from the beginning, too, and I’m watching all the seasons trying to get refreshed on everything. It’s been very revealing so far :) I think I would get stuck on the show “Firefly.” Hardly anyone has ever heard of it, but it just looks like fun. It’s like a sci-fi western, and only 13 episodes long…but there is a movie that continued the series called Serenity! :)

Jud gave up on Lost last season. I’m on my own now … but can’t wait to watch soon.

I think I would want to be trapped in “Burn Notice.” To be “trapped” in Miami for a month would be great! Kinda like a humid Vegas I think. Any Alton Brown show on Food Network. The man is a genius, in my book.

I’m going to go old school and say “Hogan’s Heros.” They may have been prisoners of war, but those guys had some good times.

  61. Randy Kinnick January 26, 2010 at 12:47 pm #

I would have to say it’s a toss-up between Seinfeld and NCIS. Either way, I’d like to give head slaps all around.

This is such a fun question!! I would have to say Dawson’s Creek. Teen angst at its finest. Plus the town always looks so cozy and has perfect weather.

Ok, can I change my answer? Now I’m thinking The West Wing. Brilliant dialogue + I’d love to change their political bent just a touch.

    btw, great question…

At one point i would have said MacGyver. Now I would say NCIS since it is the only one I watch.

Oh, but just think of all the things you could learn to do with a paperclip and a gum wrapper from Macgyver!

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon… actually, it often does feel like I’m stuck in that show.

Newer? NCIS. Love LOST, but not enough to be on a moving, mysterious island.

    Older? Quantum Leap.

Really old? I loved Jackie Gleason Show growing up.

  69. Jan C January 26, 2010 at 5:37 pm #

I always wanted to be part of “The Brady Bunch,” but I’d want to be Marcia. It’s rarely cool to be Jan.

Shark Tank! So much to learn from those masters of investing in business! Otherwise I’d choose being stuck in the Food Network studio…

    • Pete Wilson January 26, 2010 at 7:34 pm #

My friend Andy Sperry was on that show. I got a feeling he would tell you that you really don’t want to be on that show. :)

  71. gitz January 26, 2010 at 6:39 pm #

Netflix on demand currently has all the old seasons to watch online right now… I’ve been re-watching the old seasons to get myself ready. I’m obsessed with that show!

I would totally live in Alias for a month if it meant I could be as in shape as Jennifer Garner and kick butt like Sydney Bristow :)

Since I’m a Dr wannabe….i would love to be trapped in Greys Anatomy or some other cheesy medical drama. Just the hospital drama stuff not the relationship drama stuff. I can’t handle both anymore! Ha!

    Pete,

You’ve got to have some strange book of poignant questions. Your blogs are always thought-provoking and oftentimes spontaneous.

I’m not sure how I’d respond. Maybe I could be trapped in ‘Who wants to be a millionare’, and play until I win the million dollars.

I’m not much for TV. I like The Office though, very sarcastic. Right up my ally.

    You rock man.

As much as I love Lost, I don’t think I would want to be stranded on that particular island. I would say Desperate Housewives cause they could seriousely use a cute african american girl on the show that isn’t keeping her crazy son in the basement!

  75. Channing Francis January 27, 2010 at 3:25 am #

Pastor Pete, I’m not sure that you can watch Lost online outside of the US. I have been in Paris, France for the month and the ABC video player says that it will not work outside of the US, BUT iTunes let me download TV show episodes!

  76. Hilary January 27, 2010 at 9:45 am #

My husband and I are completely obsessed. I really want to be friends with every one of the characters. LOST is hands down the best TV show ever made. And the season premiere comes right around my birthday, which is so nice of them :)

So, all that to say if I was going to be stuck on a show it would most definitely be LOST!

  77. nigel January 27, 2010 at 9:48 am #

I would totally want to get trapped in Castle. Granted, I’d probably be one of the murder victims whose killer they’re looking for, but I’d take that if it meant being “trapped” in that show for a month.

Definitely House…there’s something about being able to figure out what’s wrong with people and see them healed. Plus I’d love to banter back & forth with House. what a nutcase.

  80. Scott Mooney January 27, 2010 at 3:59 pm #

Tough to choose. Either “Chuck” or “Castle”. My wife and I love both of these shows and they happen to both be on Monday nights. Probably “Castle” because I’ve always wanted to be a novelist, but my wife would have to be Beckett so we could actually have the romance that is slowly developing between the two of them.

Hey Pete. Have you seen the new book by Chris Seay called “The Gospel According to Lost”? My wife is reading it now.

  81. Jason DeVelvis January 27, 2010 at 4:18 pm #

Actually being “in the show” would make Lost much less desirable, I think. I wouldn’t want to be in a plane crash and disconnected from the world for 3 months… er, 3 years… er, maybe there was actually no crash at all? (We’ll see how this season goes, lol)

I’d have to say Heroes would be the one I’d like to be in. Come on. Being able to fly? Or stop time? Or move things with my mind? Or heal instantly? The possibilities are endless. Though, with my luck, my power would be lame, like being able to turn my nose a different color or something like that :)

I am going for Biggest Loser….after 5 kids I could seriously use some tightening up the good old fashioned way. I wouldn’t be much help on the weight side of things but I would love it.

  83. Karyn January 28, 2010 at 1:19 pm #

I love LOST. It would be interesting to be trapped in the show for a month. I think all the stress and anxiety would wear me down! If you realize all they’ve been through and it’s been 3 years time, I think I’d have gray hair and I probably wouldn’t listen to Ben at all!

  84. Marina February 4, 2010 at 2:53 am #

One time I watched Final Destination before flying. Not a good idea. I was really afraid something was gonna happen..haha. There are so many weird noises on a plane.

I would have to say FRIENDS. It’s like the most funniest TV-show ever. BUT to be honest, I might get tired from all the sarcasm all the time…haha.
