Backroads

One of my favorite things about the holidays is the down time with family. We’re back in Nashville now, but the couple days we spent in Kentucky with Brandi’s family was great.

No agenda.
No to do list.
No email.

In fact, on Saturday I told Brandi let’s just get in the car and drive. She asked, “Where?”  I said, “Nowhere. Let’s just hop in the car and drive backroads.”

So we did and we had a blast. Took a couple pictures along the way and it’s amazing what you see when you slow down and your eyes are wide open.

I love those pics. I especially love old barns. My husband and I try to take pictures like this but we never stop and take the time to do them right. Definitely need to do that.

I would love to spend a day just driving around taking pictures of old barns.

Reminds me of my trips to Ohio’s Amish countryside every year. Cornfields, barns, horses and buggies, barns, old windmills, gardens, barns, old trees, barns, more barns, farmyards, barns… Old barns, new barns, but especially old barns…

There’s something about the gorgeous red color of the barns against the golden wheat fields seemingly set on fire by the warmth of the sun.

When I visit my sister-friend in Ohio, we take drives out to the countryside almost every day/night. The photos, the sights, the conversation…. ahhh, my heart longs to be there right now.

Wow, those are some outstanding shots. Thank you for sharing with us. Now that the Christmas rush is over, I’d like to go for one of those drive… though probably not through too many back roads. The back roads in Kentucky are too windy and dangerous to really relax… unless I could find some fairly straight back roads. Then I’d be in business.

I love the idea of taking my camera along too. Such an inspiration to look back on pictures like that. Thanks for the reminder.

That makes me feel like home. Except here those photos would have to be taken in October. You wouldn’t be able to drive backroads now with all the ice and snow :)

Your photography gets better every time, Pete… so glad you had the chance to slow down and enjoy it.

I wonder how many tourists drive the back roads where I live when they visit. It’s beautiful when you get off the main highway.

Those pics remind me of Idaho. We used to love finding old barns.

  35. Bill Foote December 29, 2009 at 1:01 am #

We were missionaries in England for eleven years and driving the back roads was one of our favorite things. We would take off and when we came to a T in the road we would take turns choosing right or left. We never new where we would end up and it was wonderful. I loved those no agenda, we have all the time in the world days. Thanks for bringing back some great memories for me.

We have all those beautiful things in our “backyard.” Our backyard is lucky enough to see all those sights. The property actually belongs to someone else and I’m just lucky enough to have its beauty in my backyard. The cows have become a part of the family. The dogs love them!!! :)

    I love the country!
