My Worst Haircut Ever

Somehow, for years, my hair has been made fun on in one way or another. I’ll readily admit that some of my hair styles have been a bit our there and worthy of discussion and criticism.  Most notably was the cut I had for about 3 months in 1995, years before I would sport “The Pete.”

Keep in mind at that time George Clooney was at the height of his career starring in “ER.” I remember seeing his hair style and thinking to myself, “I think I can pull that off.” Well, I was wrong. Dead wrong!  And I have the picture to prove it.

sc04b66b72

There are two remarkable things about this picture:

1) It was taken on this very day 14 years ago.

2) It was taken 15 minutes after I had gotten down on one knee in the middle of an ice rink and asked Brandi to marry me.

To this day I can’t believe she said “Yes” with me sporting that haircut. Once again, proof that she must have really loved me.

**UPDATE** My friend Ian just sent me this pic. Striking similarities.

A few more things remarkable about this picture.

    3. A grown man sitting on Santa’s lap. (at least we know you got what you wanted that year)

  10. Pete, you and Brandi looks so happy in that photo and while haircuts and fashion may change, the love that comes through this photo lives on…

The haircut reminds me of a commercial for Jack in the Box – ‘The Bowl Cut’…the promotion is the new chicken bowl where the office gets on board with it and gets the ‘bowl cut’. When Jack announces the bowl promo is over he reveals that his ‘bowl cut’ is actually a wig. A co-worker on board with the whole bowl cut thing bursts out crying. Her haircut is real :)

  13. First of all that is NOT your worst haircut ever. It seems there was a head shaving incident for a youth pastor that I recall. There are pictures of that around somewhere. I will have to find them.

You sir, just as I, married way over our heads. For me it was possibly the most evident example to God’s grace in my life.

I remember when my dad cut my hair once and I asked him for a 3 on the sides and a 6 on the top and then to blend it in. I ended up with a straight line around my head. Sad thing is I sported that cut for about a week.

  31. When I had just gone through the pledge process for my sorority and was an official member after 12 very long weeks of what seemed like a never ending process, I was hanging out with one of my pledge sisters in her dorm room. Being the poor college student that I was, I decided hey I should let Thumper (my pledge sister’s nickname) cut my bangs. So she whips out the scissors and begins to snip away. Pretty soon I hear the words that should never come out of someone’s mouth when there are scissors and hair involved – “ooops” The first words out of my mouth after that ooops was: “glue”. I never let Thumper come near my hair with scissors again. Thankfully she chose teaching as a profession and not cosmetology :)

I have similar “what was I thinking” and “why ever did he marry me” photos of myself in all kinds of awful hairdos with different pairs of humongous (bought them in the men’s section) aviator-style eyeglasses. I’m STILL not sure I’ve got the hair and glasses thing right!
