My hassle with the whole episode, was why on earth are we so HUNGRY for someone else's life.. Leave Him BE. What he does is between Him and His God(if he believes in one). Its not my business.

I totally agree and do believe we need to extend grace to Tiger. Kicking him while he’s down is not the answer, no matter how horrible and dishonorable we may think his actions were. We don't have to condone what he did, we just offer forgiveness.

For me… and this goes in step with what you alluded to in the intro of your post… the issue with Tiger is just a symptomatic example of a larger issue. We live in a society where infidelity is almost glamorized by what we’re exposed to on TV, through film, etc. Even the subtle ways it’s shared sends a message that desensitizes some from it. Add in a little personal success… power… money… the temptations just seem to explode. Headline after headline of prominent politicians, celebrities, sports figures, etc who cheat. People who seem to have so much going for them but are still obviously looking for something else to fill the void. Doesn’t just happen to the well know but also to the guy or gal next door. THAT is what bothers me most. Our nation needs to reclaim its moral compass. Truth is needed more than ever. We need to raise the bar but also make certain that we, as believers, are being living examples of Christ (as best we can) so that we can help show that there IS a better way.

Great stuff. So many of us make the mistake of running from a fellow Believer who has fallen ... like a leper, we avoid them. We're quick to back away, condemn them. We're so afraid of what the world will say ... that they'll label us all, along with the guilty party, a hypocrite, that they'll question our faith and our God, etc. ... when, instead we should realize what an OPPORTUNITY we've been given in these situations. Grace is the one thing that separates us, the one thing Christianity can offer that no one else can. It's our calling card. And, mistakes/sins/transgressions are our opportunity to SHINE, to show others what Christ is all about. I mean, without transgression, there can be no grace ... none of what's BEST about our God, our faith. So, in my estimation, we should be THANKFUL, in a sense, for the brokenness of others. They're our opportunity to reflect our Lord, to offer what we've been offered, to show someone else God's love and, if they're not a Believer, maybe grow the Kingdom.

Such a fascinating topic on so many levels. I think you've done an excellent job here with such an important and difficult issue.

I actually just sent Jon from Stuff Christians Like an idea for a guest post about this, so it's quite timely to see yet another post about it.

Thank you.

Pete I saw this on Facebook under POTSC. I really appreciate you using your influence to spread this even further.
I hate the fact that most people, Christians and not, choose this moment to drag someone else through the mud. No one has a problem when we benefit from that person, but as soon as the benefits are gone the stones come out.
I have done more than enough to be ostracized by my family and community. I'm just grateful that TMZ doesn't follow me around recording all my faults.
As I mentioned on the Facebook post, I have been called to be a part of God's restoration here on earth just as He is restoring me. The moment I take the role of God and begin casting judgment I miss out on my true role as God's hands and feet.

One of my biggest mottos is "I'm not done living yet, and life has a way of shutting your mouth!" I always try to give grace because I might someday need some myself. Especially when it comes to my kids. I can say all day "mine would never say or do or act like that" but in the end the only person I can be fully responsible for is me! I can just hope and pray I've taught them the same thing. Great post.

Hey Pete,

A friend pointed me to your post. I appreciate your thoughts. Too many of us are on the wrong side of the stones. We don't understand the gravity of our own sin and depravity. We have a shallow understanding of grace, and see ourselves as so much better.

I have posted recently on our Porn to Purity blog about Tiger Woods. I work regularly with men who have struggled with sexual addiction.
