You Did It Again!

My prayer 7 years ago when we launched  Cross Point Church was that our church would make a real difference in its community. I prayed we would care just as much about what’s going on outside our four walls as within.

Early Monday morning there was a horrible fire here in Nashville which destroyed several units,  and affected about 20 residents at the Mission Bellevue Ridge Apartments. These apartments are only minutes from our Cross Point Bellevue campus which launches this Spring.

Last night while watching the local news I heard a story about how a local group was trying to help the families, many of which had lost everything. I thought to myself, what an awesome way to reach out in the midst of this crisis. Then I heard the reporter say that a mom’s small group from Cross Point Church was responsible for collecting items for the family (CLICK HERE to watch the video).

This is a CP community group at its best. Not just studying the Gospel together but actually living it out!!

The reporter went on to say that the Cross Point Bellevue campus (the old Circuit City building) was now being used as the drop off/collection center for items being donated to these families.

I love it. The Cross Point Bellevue campus reaching its community before it even launches. Now that’s the church being the church! This community of believers never ceases to amaze me. You did it again and I’m so proud of you guys.

I love Cross Point and I’ve never set foot on any of the church campuses. I live on the west coast and can feel the heartbeat of Christ’s love flowing from you all.

I’m on several online communities and on one of them I received an email from a sweet lady who attends Cross Point, she invited me to coffee after the service the Sunday following–I told her I lived far away and she invited me to coffee anyway ‘someday’, I think she even invited me to sit when her when and if I do ever get to visit.

I love the Love flowing out of the hearts of the people there–feels like ‘home away from home’. Lord bless them/you all.

Our family will keep those families in prayer who lost their homes.

Thanks Tina. That’s a great story. We consider you our extended family.

    YES! Nice job CPers.

That is insanely encouraging. What a testimony to God’s work. It’s amazing when God uses us to develop skills in others, and they actually use them. Like in the Bible where it says (something like) you’ll know if you’ve trained your children well when they’re children are trained well. In other words, the proof for the grandparent is how the grandchild lives.

Something happens spiritually. The proof for you as a leader isn’t your disciples, it’s your disciples disciples. That’s way harder, but of course I think God set it up that way so we’d constantly remember how dependent we are on Him.

That’s what happens when church gets it right, and churchgoers follow Christ :o )

Beautiful to watch it all unfold, Pete!!

Love it. My pastor follows your blog but I sent him the link anyways because it makes me smile. A while ago he preached on the Good News isn’t so good anymore because it’s all words, no action. This truly is the Good News in action. I can be wary of just “felt needs” type of things but I am confident this will bring so many to Christ.
I love hearing the inspiring stories coming out of your church!

My pastor husband loves to challenge churches when he speaks by asking them, “If your church doors closed today, would the community around it know it was gone? Would it be missed?” Praise God, CP Bellevue is way ahead of this challenge!!

I love hearing stuff like this. When churches break out of their walls and into the hearts of their communities. To serve and love those in need. That is the church!

No committee meetings. No justification needed. No formal declaration of help from CP. Just Jesus doing what Jesus does through those who love Him.

God keep breaking the hearts of those at CP. As you break their hearts you will supply what they need to do your work.

What a wonderful Christmas story. May it is a wonderful life after all.

Merry Christmas CP. You guys are my heroes.

    • Pete Wilson December 17, 2009 at 12:17 pm #

My exact thoughts Harold. I love this wasn’t an organized effort or program. Just people loving people.

That’s great Pete. It all starts with the leadership. I love seeing ideas come to life!

  17. blake porter December 17, 2009 at 2:32 pm #

It is amazing what people will do when they truly seek out ways to be a witness for Jesus. It also helps when the church has a great leader like Pete and I am sure you all agree with that. I told him two weeks ago if I lived in Nashville I would so be there in the midst of things.

May we contagiously serve this way day after day, week after week! The potential for this type of service is never-ending!!! We can change the world if we take the focus off of ourselves and direct it outward. I love when our folks step out and serve others just because…..

  19. Jason December 17, 2009 at 3:54 pm #

Just FYI, there’s been an abundance of donated items so they’ve said there are no more donations needed for the families.

Thanks for keeping the ball rolling with these families! Fine work my friend.

  20. Bill Foote December 17, 2009 at 4:58 pm #

Wow. That is exactly what I desire to see our church begin to do! What an example of real Christianity being lived out at ground level. Well done!

This is what I love most about Crosspoint. I love alot of things about this church, the lights, videos, music, messages, leadership, accessibility, Pete’s hair, (just joking, I don’t LOVE his hair, it’s just a jealousy thing) you name it, but what I love the most is the love. The love that this place has for others is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Way to go Moms Group (= You guys (girls I guess, sorry) are what this is all about. I hope this disease of loving people spreads all over.

  24. Aaron Reddin December 17, 2009 at 7:58 pm #

Thanks for sharing. God has been restoring my faith in the local church as a whole over the last week. I shared with you what happened with our church. Through that, God began to show me that some of my thoughts about the local church were simply false. This just goes on to help affirm what he has been showing me.

    Way to go Cross Point!!!
