Soul City

Most of you know that I”m a huge fan of church planting. God has allowed me to be a part of two church plants. Both Morgantown Community Church and Cross Point church were launched because a group of people believed in the importance of launching a church with a unique vision to reach it’s community.

And while every church plant excites me every once in a while I hear about one that I’ve just got to jump in and help. Soul City Church is starting in the City of Chicago in 2010 and they are committed to helping people become all of who God created them to be.  I believe in Jarrett & Jeanne Stevens – they spent 12 years at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL and 3 ½ years at North Point Community Church in Atlanta, GA.  They are two of the most incredible leaders I’ve ever been around! I’m so excited to see the vision of this church reach many people in the city of Chicago and beyond and I have decided that I want to be a part of the story of seeing this Church start. God is going to use this movement to make a significant impact on the city of Chicago!

    Pete,

Got to be transparent here. When I first pulled up this post, I was like ‘ugh..’

Not because I don’t appreciate church plants or what God is doing in this couple’s life and in Chicago. It was just my humanness responding to ‘another opportunity to give this season’.

You know what? I clicked on the give link that you posted on the bottom anyway. I was encouraged by the vision that was demonstrated on that link. So.. I gave.

I don’t mention this for my own recognition but as an encouragement to your other readers to just click on the link and see what the vision is.

It could be really cool to swing up to Chicago next year and be the church with them for a day or two.

@Tony York, there is just something really rewarding about investing in a church plant. To know over the next 20 years that while God get’s the glory for every marriage healed and every soul saved you still get the opportunity to say, “I was a part of that”. God used me and my resources to help get the ball rolling.

I’m praying hard for these guys and for @loswhit who’s going to be leading worship for them. It’s going to be exciting to see what God does through them!

I did! :) I’ve seen so many people blog about Soul City and I love how they’re getting so much hype through the power of the interwebs. Can’t wait for them to launch cuz I’m only 35 miles away!

I love what Soul City is doing. It is so much fun to read about what is unfolding on their blog. The vision is worth reading so I hope others click on the link. It paints a very clear picture of what our own home churches should be about.

Can’t wait to drive in from Detroit for a service :)

Pete, I love what you said in your comment: “To know over the next 20 years that while God get’s the glory for every marriage healed and every soul saved you still get the opportunity to say, ‘I was a part of that.’ God used me and my resources to help get the ball rolling.”

For me, that’s exactly the reason I continue to serve the Lord in so many things. It’s not like I have to serve God. He could certainly use someone else, but still He chooses to use me – us. That’s amazing and motivator behind investing in anything for the Lord. What’s a wonderful God!

It is pretty awesome to be able to be a part of a church plant even from a distance. I am excited for Soul City. We are currently in the middle of a building project for Sandals (CA) and it is so powerful to know what we are building a home that will serve the community for generations to come. I think the emotion is just as great to give and to support a church in another city and to acknowledge the power of Christ and what can be done there.
