If I could sing high notes, I'd be all over some MJ (I Want You Back, Man In The Mirror, The Way You Make Me Feel). If I was brave enough, I'd be rockin' some Prince (1999, Money Don't Matter Tonight, Kiss).

I guess I'll just have to keep it in my wheelhouse...
Maybe something by Acappella?

"Pride (In the Name of Love)" - U2
"Livin' on a Prayer" - Bon Jovi
"Crash Into Me" - Dave Matthews Band

-and this one makes me cringe (but don't judge)-
"Grave Robber" - Petra

I feel like Petra gets no love anymore. They rocked it when almost no one else did.

Have you ever heard Gloria Gaither sing “When All of God’s Singers Get Home?” It pictures God, eons ago in the beginning, singing a perfect song. It tells how, ever since, godly songwriters have recaptured one small piece of that song after another. But God’s song will not be once again be perfect until the time when all of his singers are home.

Right now I think that the parts of that song that are most complete are those that praise him, often using Scriptures – like “Majesty” or “Our God is an Awesome God.” Or songs about our own experiences: “Once a sinner far from Jesus, I was perishing with cold, but the Blessed Savior heard me when I cried.” And older "theological songs" that explore what God is like.

Yet those wonderful songs only cover half of the tapestry God has put before us. Clearly, he is pleased by songs that extol and praise him. He HAS told us to love him.

But he has also told us to love “the least of my brothers” equally with him. Where are those songs? Mostly, they are still silent, unwritten. They are waiting for songwriters to capture the suffering of the sick; the hurt of the injured, the struggles of the poor, the misery of children without food or clothing, the loneliness of orphans, the horror of slums in Calcutta and Bangkok and their beginnings in the US, the lack of justice, the good people without homes, even in the US. The pain of those who die many years too soon because they cannot get insurance and cannot see a doctor (like my wife waited five months, here in the US, before she could get treatment for skin cancer, and we are still struggling to figure out how to pay for that.) Most of those songs have not been written yet at all – except, occasionally, by nonChristians (shame on us!).

When you listen for them, you hear mostly silence. But I pray they will be written. Because, along with the praise songs we have now, they are the ones I want to be able to sing.
