Twitter, Football, and Pansies?

If you follow me on twitter you know that I routinely get my man card revoked by friends. It seems that sometimes things come out of my mouth that are somewhat questionable.

Last night sitting on my porch I was floored by the beauty of the pansy sitting next to me. I took a picture of it and made the mistake of saying this on twitter….

One of my favorite things about fall is the pansies on our porch (and I included a link to this picture)

pansy

The responses I got were hilarious. A few of my favorites were:

@pwilson hahahahahaha!!!!!! I misread pansies for “panties” hahahahahaha..the picture of the flowers was beautiful (still wondering why he so quickly clicked on the picture. :) )

@pwilson I really thought this was going 2 be the picture that came up: (and he attached this photo).

55789944

Now that is FUNNY. I’ve had a lot of people giving me a hard time about my Titans. I want to go on record as saying that I still love and believe in them. You have to go through some rough seasons in order to really appreciate the good ones. Go Titans!!

So, Whose your team and how are they doing?

The Pats…and do you really need to ask?! ;)
At least you get a week to recoup..we get to fly to England (why, exactly…?!)

  6. Anita October 20, 2009 at 12:45 pm #

You looked sort of sad Sunday, so I cut you a break. Do you know how hard it was not to quote your sermon when those Titans tweets were flying? How perfectly did “Community is the way God confronts and redeems our desire to give up” fit the situation?

I’m with CShell – we’re Eagles folks here. And boy, was Sunday a hard day to be an Eagles fan around here. It was like some alternate reality beings were inhabiting those uniforms. Ugh.

And those pansies are truly gorgeous. Each petal is so perfectly formed and created. I wish we still had warm enough weather for mine to bloom . . . Enjoy them regardless of the revocation of your man-card :)

Wow…there’s a whole contingent of Eagles fans here…count me in.

I went to the Jets/Titans game a few weeks ago (we live in Jets/Giants country depending who you talk to)…lots of fun but completely confusing with the old uniforms. The Titans were in their Oiler uniforms and the Jets were at one time known at the NY Titans so whew…it was hard to keep up.

“…Oh, it’s hard to be humble, when you’re an Arkansas Razorback fan! Go Hogs!”

If you look at our record, it looks like we’re terrible… we’re last in the SEC. However, we’re improving, and played the former number 1 team in the country down to the end of the game. We all thought they’d blow us out of the water, but they played a darn good game. I was mighty proud of my Razorbacks. I applaud you, Pete, for standing with your team through the good and the bad! Fair weathered fans get on my nerves. :)

I am a die-hard, lifelong Alabama Crimson Tide fan and I’m a little hesitant to bring it up since it’s still the middle of the season but …… we are ranked #1!!! I could care less about Pro Football. It’s just good for parties in this neck of the woods. Down here it’s ALL about college ball!

And Pete, I thought it was sweet that you liked the pansies that probably your wife bothered to put on the porch! It was great that you noticed. Doesn’t make you any less of a man in my eyes. Reminds me of my big tough husband!

As my parents are season ticket holders at Lambeau Field, I am a die-hard Green Bay Packer Fan.

While they have great potential, their offensive line is…OFFENSIVE. They have allowed 25 sacks thus far and I fear Aaron Rodgers may need to spend part of the season in the ICU.

Packer fans are fiercely loyal. I grew up loving them during the 1980s when they were awful!

Watching Brett Favre beat up on them a couple weeks ago was like going to visit your grandpa and having him take you behind the shed for your whooping!!!!

My team…The University of Alabama. So happy that we are on a winning streak…but since I’ve been a fan since birth, I have definitely been around for some years of lows. Sadly, three out of my four years of college were what I would say lows. Enjoying the Return to Glory!

  29. Jen October 20, 2009 at 8:01 pm #

To completely confuse you, I have been a life long St Kilda supporter in Australian Rules Football. They finished the season top of the ladder, but lost in the dying seconds to the second team. Which just happens to be my HUSBANDS team. That was painful.

  43. Kyle Reed October 21, 2009 at 7:51 am #

Its okay pete, I just saw a big opportunity to take a couple of punches at the pastor of the hipsters. I didn’t want to send you an @ reply on Sunday after the game because I knew that it still hurt, but the chance to give it to you on this one was way to obvious.

I will say though, I live in St. Louis and am a Rams fan. Somehow, even though your team lost 59-0 the Rams are worse. I think your team will turn it around way before the Rams. So the pain is temporary, and hope is on the horizon in the name of Eddie George.

Can you believe that the two teams that played in the Super Bowl 10 years ago are now 0-12? Craziness.

Panthers and we’ve won our allotted 2 games this year. I’d assume the nice thing about being a fan of the losing Titans vs. the idiotic Panthers is you will probably get a nice first round draft pick. My team on the other hand traded it away for someone who apparently doesn’t make a difference.
Maybe we’ll get a new coach and QB. Jake’s Gotagohomme.

  45. Adam Young October 21, 2009 at 8:05 am #

BRONCOS! Always have been a fan, always will be. A highlight of my Broncos fan career is when Jason Elam started going to my home church, and when I left there, he gave me a Terrell Davis jersey signed by T.D., Ed McCaffrey, Rod Smith, Brian Griese, and of course Jason Elam.

Been a fan since 1977, when I was seven years old. And I always will be!

49ers!! Since the days of Joe Montana – he was my sports hero as a kid. Still love those guys today – they’ve had some rough years since the end of the Young era…but they’re slowly recovering.

So yes, Pete – there is hope for the great teams that fall after their glory is humbled!

  55. Tina Dee October 21, 2009 at 10:06 am #

Titans! A few years ago, they made several fantastic plays at the end of a close game, while playing in mud & rain (the best kind of game, so much fun to watch!) Don’t ask me what game or what year or what team they played, I have no clue. But I do remember the thrill of watching them move that slippery ball through the mud and the rain, play by play, to their goal.

Ever since then I’ve loved that team, come rain or shine, win or lose. Learned that from my dad, who loves the Packers when they’re smelling like or rose or stinking like a skunk.

The Titans were my first step toward falling in love with a city I’ve never stepped foot in (yes, Nashville. One day…one day…)

GO TITANS! (win or lose–GO TITANS!)
