Tattoos, Body Piercings & Fedoras?
Every year “The Nashville Scene” puts out their “Best of Nashville” edition. It’s always a highly anticipated edition as they do a great job of highlighting some cool restaurants, businesses, and places to visit. This year is their 20th anniversary for the list!!
This year they awarded Cross Point “The Best Church for Hipsters.” I’ll be honest and say I’m not exactly sure what a “hipster” is but I”ll roll with it.
Just to prove I can be a good sport about such things here’s what the Nashville Scene had to say.
Best Church for Hipsters: Cross Point
Forget the flowered dresses and three-piece suits—at Cross Point Community Church in Sylvan Park, you’ll find tattoos, body piercings, fedoras and carefully-styled bedheads everywhere you turn. Pastor Pete Wilson’s funky hairdo has become iconic here in Nashville; rumor has it that Music City’s holiest hipsters show up at Trim simply requesting “The Pete.” But you know it wouldn’t do for a preacher to have a hundred-dollar haircut. Cross Point’s trendy tithers can rest easy—according to wife Brandi, Wilson’s style comes straight from Heads Up in Bellevue. Now that’s what I call a miracle.
Now that is funny…even if it is at my expense. Hope you guys have a great weekend.

your mom & I are ROFLOBO
Well Pete…Phil and I might come hang out with ya’ll some in this interim time of my life so we might ruin your image. We are def not “hipsters” or even cool.
On the other hand I HAVE been wanting a tattoo. Maybe this is a sign that the time is now.
Congratulations. I guess. It just makes me giggle.

Is it in Part 2 of Discovering Crosspoint that we hit the tattoo, body piercing and fedora requirements for membership? ‘Cause I probably don’t need to show up if that’s the case.

Awesome! My husband would love to have a haircut named after him. On the down side, my kids (college aged) inform me that using any form of the word ‘hip’ means you are not.

If you check out urbandictionary.com, you’ll find several definitions for the word “hipster.” You will also find the word stamped on millions of tags attached to women’s panties.
I think Heads Up took a pretty hard hit there, too.

Your hair is getting a lot of attention lately.
You have become a fashion icon!
Wow Pete. Rock on Crosspoint. I always love this issue of the Scene.

@Anita, maybe we’ll generate a little business for them. If you go to the one in Bellevue ask for Raeco. She goes to CP Dickson and does a great job.
That is awesome, Pete……. And I have a tattoo so it’s nice to know that when I move to Nashville someday I will be gladly accepted!!!

what service do i have to go to in order to see a fedora???
@Bill Renfrew, it is almost that accidental.
So you’re like the male Farrah Fawcett or Jennifer Anniston of Nashville, huh? That’s pretty hilarious.

At least you didn’t end up on the list of the pastor that is holding a Oct. 31 burning of Bibles and Books. I am assuming that if you were near fire your hair would be the ignition to a huge explosion.

Ya I just find the name very ironic “Amazing Grace Baptist Church” Good word picture there. They have 14 members now but the church is growing according to their minister. HA
Hey, at least they didn’t talk about your gray hairs being mistaken for highlights

From one just trying to hang ON to my hair, glad you have a trendy cut, but I thought “the Pete” would come from Starbucks first since your trademark coffee is the tall caramel machiatta (sp?), an excellent choice. BTW, I’d always heard hipsters were guys whose pants sagged under their bellies, but definitions do change.

that write-up is awesome.
and if i were ever leading a church, i’d love to be known as the one that welcomes tattoos, piercings, and bedheads.
because that sounds a whole lot like jesus hanging with prostitutes and tax collectors.
i’m just sayin.

Be careful… that dude from the radio will tell you that your hair is superceeding God’s Word, and to uphold the integrity of the message, you should shave your head.
That sounds like the cue for an AWESOME fundraiser… How much would they need to raise for you to shave your head, Pete?

@Jen Hmmmmmm. I’m going to have to think about that one.
I particularly like the mention of the “carefully-styled bedheads everywhere you turn”. That is just awesome! Congrats on your Hipster church and “The Pete”. You’re like the Jennifer Anniston of the evangelical world, when she had “The Rachel” from friends. hehehe

Sounds like a good place to me, although the haircut thing is a little weird. If I’m ever road-tripping though (someday) mind if I stop by? (I mean with such a glowing review how can I not?)

@Dan Z, thanks bro. We feel we’re blessed to be here.
With the tattoos and fedoras, Lindsay was describing Nate. Now he’s famous too.
Cross Point has surely made me cooler, I was in such a fashion wreck before I started coming here a year ago. I even got a tatoo, thank you for making me cool again
@Michael, We do what we can Michael.

Pete is the man. Hair speaks who you are. Tattoos are just an expression. I have several tats. I go to Crosspoint because I love the atmosphere and the message, Pete is an amazing person-down to earth. Crosspoint accepts you whoever you are, that’s what makes it great, I don’t feel I have to be anyone other than who I am there, I feel God comes to you to exactly who you are and in your shoes your wearing whether they are trendy or not.
