Let’s Talk About Sex

This weekend we’re continuing week 4 of “Religion Lies” at Cross Point.

We’ll be talking about how religion and culture have robbed us of guilt free sexual pleasure. We’ve accepted so many different sexual lies over the years that it’s created all kinds of misconceptions. And the reality is for every misconception you have about sex there is a corresponding consequence.

It’s going to be an amazing weekend, but here’s a video I shot with a little warning regarding this weekend’s content.

Message Warning from Pete Wilson on Vimeo.

The church we have been visiting has been doing a series on “Love” and last weeks message was so very good…it was on lust. This week is on s*x and both services came with a PG-13 rating for us parents. ;)

If you wanna check out the guest speaker (blank on his name but from the nashville area) here is the link…it was so well done.

Pete, I will be praying for you and your team this week. Every time Ed talks about sex or the culture surrounding that topic, I have heard him say that Satan does all he can to stand in the way of God’s man bringing God’s words on a most important topic.

I agree with ransom33, you are likely to see all hell open up on you and your team between now and Sunday.

Now is not the time to underestimate the power of prayer and overestimate your own ability.
Now is not the time to buy into the illusion that there are more important things to do than spending time with the creator of the universe.
And now is not the time to believe you currently don’t need to “use” God for anything.
He’s begging you to use Him as you present God’s perfect plan for sex.

Now, can my 19 year old go to children’s church?

No shying away at Cross Point from those difficult discussions that need to be discussed.

Will be praying for the church and the blessing they’ll receive this weekend, and for you & your guests as God uses you all to right our perspectives.

I’ll watch the vidcast after we put our son to bed. In fact, need to catch up on last weeks message. Thanks for the warning–Lord bless you, Pete!

Religion has repressed many people from having a healthy sex life. However knowing Jesus makes us sensual human beings. What then the problem for Christians?? It’s about sensuality not sexuality. However, I know that having sex outside of marriage thinking we are “adult enough” to handle it, is not the way to go. There has to be spiritual connections in these sexual encounters or we are simply mechanically doing exercises. ONLY LOVE SATISFIES. IT IS STILL TWO BECOME ONE!!!

My first psych professor was a certified sex therapist as was his wife who also taught psychology. Made for an interesting first psych class to take lol

And I took human sexuality twice – once as an undergrad and once as a grad student. I went to grad school at California Baptist University out in Riverside, CA and my human sexuality class was better there than at my undergrad school (Fresno State). In grad school we had to actually practice saying the names of the parts without laughing because we were getting our master’s in counseling and we might have clients come in someday with sex related issues and we couldn’t laugh. Good thing I decided not to become a licensed counselor – I still can’t keep a straight face when saying the names of the parts lol

Nice beep beeps lol I thought my computer was malfunctioning lol Then I realized they were coming from the video.

Our pastor did a sermon series titled the Birds and the Bees not long ago. He did the same advisory, saying he was gearing his message for 5th grade and up.
He got pretty technical. It was a four week series and really sparked a lot of healthy discussion!
I pray the Lord works in mighty ways at Crosspoint this weekend! Thanks for not being afraid to preach on the hard subjects, Pete!

  23. Tony York October 1, 2009 at 5:51 pm #

My daughter is in the 6th grade. She came home today and told her mother that she could no longer wear her blue jelly bracelet because one of her friends told her that it meant that she would be willing to do oral sex.

We have never spoke with our daughter about these types of things, and yet, we are not naive enough to think that she won’t learn about some of them from her peers. I had hoped that it would happen much later than 6th grade.

Why do I mention this here? Many of our misconceptions start from childhood. At what point do we provide biblical instruction on these matters to our children? And how do we go about it? I understand part of it is to help the adults to overcome some of the foibles and misconceptions that they have so that they don’t pass those on to their children.

Thoughts on correct education of the younger generations?

So, do you work for the CIA?? Because you’re preaching on the pleasure of sex. Wow. That’s what we need. More preaching on how to enjoy pleasure in the flesh – while meanwhile we’ve got a level 6 WHO pandemic rating. The swine flu shot contains squalene and mercury and God knows what else. Squalene is a sterilizing agent. The Government is wanting to sterilize (I mean “innoculate”) children and youth up to 24 FIRST – and wants to make the shot mandatory to the population. (Some states are moving in that direction – Massachussetts is saying if you don’t take the shot – they’ll come arrest you and take all your constitutional rights.)

That’s the tip of the iceberg of what we the people are facing.

You’re preaching on the pleasures of sex.

Meanwhile, your government is slipping the population a shot with the potential to sterilize them.

You know, like Holden the “science czar” of the Obama administration stated a Government SHOULD DO in order to “save the planet” – sterilize the population by slipping things into their food and water (maybe shots??) WITHOUT their knowledge and consent. Also, depopulation and sterilization is a goal of the UN. And we see FORCED sterilization and abortions in China, now don’t we??

So, you’re preaching on the pleasures of sex – and failing to know what is happening in the culture – or IGNORANT… or working for the CIA. I hear they’ve infiltrated the churches and are using members, pastors, leaders… to sidetrack the church on nonsensical issues so that the church remains asleep as the Government moves to destroy the church in the USA.

You know – like Governments do around the world.

But, go ahead, preach on people getting off better and having orgasms and just really, really, really enjoying sex.

God needs to fire you or wake you up.

@anonymous, Do I work for the CIA? I’ll have to say in 17 years of ministry I’ve been accused of a lot of things (several of which were true) but I’ve never been accused of working for the CIA.

While I will admit I’ve fantasized of having a cool job like that at the end of the day I’m just your every day average pastor. I guess according to your accusations it’s more likely I would fall into the “ignorant” category than the “CIA”.

Understand some of your concerns but think you might be a bit misguided.

I’m also quite confident if God wants to fire me he’ll do so. He certainly has the power to.

Have a great weekend Laura (how did I know your name? I called the CIA :) ).

  27. Nick October 2, 2009 at 6:02 am #

Hahahahaha!!! You work for the CIA? right!
We all know these blog posts are coming from Area 51 and that not only were you formerly with Sector 7 (See Transformers 1 &2) you are now an undercover agent for Blackwater. CIA? That’s child’s play.

I guess you will not have to preach on the “consequences” of the pleasures of sex, since you know the Government will be slipping us all a shot that will sterilize us. Great job of keeping that hidden Agent 9.

Pete, I’m excited and wary all at once about this weekend. Praying a hedge around you, your family as well as the other staffers and their folks. This could change lives.

  31. Tim Morrison October 2, 2009 at 6:19 am #

    @Anonymous,
I’m sure some others will probably reply with similar comments, but I’m glad to be the first.

It is not the responsibility of the Church to speak out on behalf of what the government is doing by way of immunizations/injections, whatever you want to call them. The purpose and mission of the Church is first and foremost to spread the Gospel, to disciple all people that they might be made more into the image of Jesus Christ, and to make Christ known to all the world. There’s a lot more to it than that, obviously, but that’s it in a nutshell. So, while your concerning yourself with governmental conspiracy theories (and I’m not saying that you’re wrong, by the way), I’m grateful for pastors like Pete who are keeping Christ and His Kingdom the focus of the ministry God has called him to at this time. And, before you go thinking that I’m just an apologist for Pete or Crosspoint: no, I’m not a member of Crosspoint. Pete doesn’t even know me.

Thanks, Pete, for pointing people toward Christ and Godly principles and foundations.

Nice response Pete, very cool headed and the long week.

  33. @jmillerjr October 2, 2009 at 6:35 am #

Pete, more pastors need to speak this truth from the pulpit and it may be great to have teen and college students in there to hear about sex from a biblical perspective instead “DON’T DO IT UNTIL YOU’RE MARRIED” or “DO IT BECAUSE IT FEELS GOOD”.

Also, the big distraction in the Body of Christ is “causes”. Yes, I believe we need to share our voice as a member of “We the People”; however, as a member of the Body of Christ our message it clear Christ, dead, buried and resurrected to life. That must be our voice loud and clear. To many of the church are focused on the causes and government and we lose sight our commission. They need to read Daniel and Revelation to see this is going to happen. We can’t stop it or change it. We must be even more vigilant to gospel at this moment than anything else.

Should I be looking for the black helicopters flying over the church Sunday?

We’re fairly new to CP…about 2.5 months now and absolutely love the church and the tranparency of the pastors. It’s awesome to attend a church where the pastors admit they struggle with some of the same issues as the congregation. This is much more effective in reaching people as opposed to the risk of letting someone believe they are the only person that struggles with sin. As we all know, this is not always the norm.

BTW, we found CP through Twitter so God does work through social networking! Looking forward to it Pete.

Ok, so I just don’t feel like putting my name out there today and my name doesn’t matter, but I wanted to respond to two things.

Jason, I have an issue with pornography (I will say for the record that I am female) and I will say that you are right, this is a difficult topic for me. I opened Pete’s blog, saw the topic, and panic set in for a second. However, I do need direction… appropriate Biblical direction as far as how to have a healthy sexual relationship with my husband.

Anonymous, seriously? Sexual sin is destroying marriages, children’s lives, the sex trade is absolutely staggering and I am quite certain there are people sitting in churches that are some of the most unhealthy sexual predators you can imagine. God ordains His message. I can’t imagine how you think this is an inappropriate topic.

The lady who sexually abused me as a child was a Sunday school teacher. The man who raped me as an adult was faithful in his church attendance. Sex seems to be one of those things that is so taboo that no one wants to discuss it and unhealthy people are going around inflicting their free will choices on others. Why not face it and let people be set free?

I am an adult woman with multiple children and yet the thought of being intimate with my husband has me physically ill the entire day. Having freedom in this area is almost beyond my comprehension but it is my heart’s desire. I can only pray that I get an opportunity to listen to this week’s message. I am praying the Lord uses it to touch the lives of everyone who hears it.

As far as sterilization goes… I’m just going to say, God is bigger than Obama, the CIA, the drug companies, etc… combined. GOD opens and closes the womb. If He can cause a virgin to give birth to His Son, and Sarah at the age of nearly 100 can give birth, I’m sure he can handle some vaccinations.

Pete, have you been secretly carrying a gun during all of our years together in Nashville? I can’t believe you just lost your cover!

I just watched your video and had to laugh when you mentioned Betty Tyndall.

Betty and Tom graciously invited our entire family over for Thanksgiving dinner with their family in 2006 (thanks again). After an incredible meal, Betty, Brian Alexander and I sat down on the couch to watch yet another football game. All of the spouses, Tom and the children went for a walk as it was a beautiful day.

Brian and I were getting in to the football game when suddenly Betty asked “well guys, since the ladies are gone right now, do you have any questions or concerns about sex?” I had to use every effort to prevent myself from giggling…

I still laugh when I think about that. But, I am so happy that there are courageous people out there who celebrate and encourage a healthy sexual relationship within the confines of marriage. We have a sexual dysfunction problem here in the US and hopefully the church (and CIA) can have a positive influence.

    @Hiding

I just wanted to say that I think you are amazing for sharing this with all of us, even if anonymously. One of my closest friends went through something very similar as a child and I just wanted to say that although it was hard, I won’t lie to you, she has managed to learn to enjoy intimacy with her husband with God’s help.

God is a God who loves you and will grant you your heart’s desire.

I also wanted to thank you for reminding me that God is all powerful and no plan from man or the devil will stand against Him. Jesus said “I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”, so whatever happens, we know how it will all end and we can have peace about it.

Thank you for giving me that peace of mind which I so needed the other day when I read that comment about swine flu.

I will pray for you. If you wish to get in touch and leave your name, do leave a comment on my site. You don’t have to, however, God knows it all.

Nate, I am not going to lie, I had a quiet laugh at picturing my husband sitting down to watch football and someone asking him that question. He would probably need oxygen!

Ransom, thank you so much for your sweet words. I am believing the Lord is going to give me healing in this area, but the process of getting there seems sooooo frustrating at times. Your words of encouragement mean a lot. I have to mention that I have the most amazing husband in the world and God has gifted him with supernatural patience.

As far as the swine flu, I have to be honest and say I have struggled with being an excessive worrier and could obsess over things to the point that I would drive my poor patient husband crazy. Just the last few weeks the Lord has been doing a work in me and helping me to let go of things that aren’t eternal or aren’t going to help me love someone or get closer to Him. LOL There is enough there to keep me busy, that’s for sure. I will stop by your blog, thank you again.
