Last night we had some friends over. We had ten children among the three couples and 7 out of 10 of them were boys. Do you know what this means? Yes, trouble… but it also means it doesn’t take long before the wrestling begins. I have no idea what it is about boys and wrestling, but it’s bound to happen as soon as you get two or more of them gathered together in a room.
I remember loving WWF as a kid. My favorite all time wrestler was Jerry “The KING” Lawler. And by the way if you’re a fan you can actually join Jerry on his “Legends of Classic Wrestling Cruise” this fall (come on, you know you want to go).
Did you have a favorite wrestler?

Not gonna touch that question with a 10-foot pole, Pete!

I was hoping you could help me out with whats up with boys and wrestling! Never understood it. With four boys there is always wrestling when they get together. The longer the time they have not seen each other the rowdier the wrestling!
Now my girls…they dance, hug, sing, share what color the nail polish is called, where they found the cute shirt….so much calmer!!! But much LOUDER!!
Kids…have to love them!
.-= Kath´s last blog ..Today Is The Day!!!!…….. =-.
@Jan C. Come on!!! I know you have a favorite. It was Hulk Hogan wasn’t it?
Definitely Junk Yard Dog

Mine was Tojo Yamamoto. After you asking the question of did you have a favorite I googled him and find that he committed suicide in 1992 at the age of 65. I really hated to hear that. He was fun to watch and finished off his opponents with his “stomach vice”. I used to do it to my younger brother Bobby, alot.

I grew up with 4 older brothers so I relate to the wrestling very well. They even involved me at times. I always picked the ones that were cute, so my favorites were Ricky Steamboat and the Rock-N-Roll Express, since them, wrestling has not been the same. I also have 2 boys of my own who love to wrestle but I don’t allow them to watch the wrestling that comes on now because it has gotten too crazy, but there is still that wrestling spirit within boys that will break out when you least expect it.

I haven’t watched wrestling for years. I used to be a fan of “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Hulkster.
.-= Jason Wert´s last blog ..My love of writing is back =-.
Yeah, Jerry Lawler was pretty awesome. Never really liked Hulk Hogan too much.
.-= Sharkbait´s last blog ..Worth a thousand words… =-.
OH YEAH! Randy “The Macho Man” Savage was probably my favorite. Of course, George “The Animal” Steele was always entertaining as well when he would eat the turnbuckle – did you know he was actually a High School English teacher with a master’s degree before he joined the WWF?
The Animal’s fascination with Miss Elizabeth made these two an entertaining match.

I totally forgot about Randy Savage. Loved that dude as well. He was crazy!
Not so much on the WWF however I was hoping you had an answer to the question you posed in the title!!!
3 sons ages 20, 8 and 6 and I always think my younger two are the only boys who bang, bounce, wrestle and such…glad to know that is not the case

No favorite wrestler (or as they say in Georgia, wrAssler) but as a mother of a now-grown son, I can agree completely that whenever two or more boys are together, the wrestling will happen. Always.

okay, not to brag here [i totally am though] but Jerry the King Lawler came to my senior field day in highschool. we were told we would have a special guest present the winning team with a trophy and so up drives The King. it was funny, yet really random. I went to a private christian school. not sure where the connection was. however, he was dressed in his classic KING uniform. you would appreciate it. As for MY favorite wrestler, which i am embarrassed to admit i found wrestling very entertaining…was THE UNDERTAKER. how creepy.
Oh man, Pete, you are bringing back great memories! My son Wayne, who is now 24, was a huge WWF fan along with his 3 cousins. My dad, husband and the boys would sometimes go to WWF events when they came to Chicago and dress up like their favorite wrestlers (imagine a 60-something old business man looking like Bad News Brown!) Fun memories for us all.
My favorite wrestler was The Big Boss Man because we ran into him at the airport one time and he gave us his autograph.
My favorite wrestlers were the Von Erich brothers. Sadly, only one of the five is still alive. Kevin.
I did a post about wrestling earlier this year.

I preferred the British Bulldogs!
Bam Bam Bigelow, as a kid I wanted flames tattooed on my head in the WORST way
The Nature Boy Ric Flair… Woooooooo!

Now, may be misinformed because I’m a girl and all, but the only time I remember any of us being aware of WWF was when Hulk Hogan was wrestling. And then he was in that weird film playing a Nanny or something like that?
But, with 2 older stepbrothers you can bet there was much wrestling. Me being a totally skinny squirt, and my brothers being well…tall and skinny & tall and huge, um…they just kinda threw me about really. Didn’t take much effort from either of them!
@Nate VZ – Did British Bulldogs get banned from your school playground…?

I’m so glad this post was about boys wrestling. I was afraid we were going in a whole ‘nother direction. Guess that one will come around in about oh, ten years or so, huh?
As for WWF, my brother was a fan but I just never did get it. Kinda reminded me of barnyard roosters with all the crowing and posturing and all. Of course, I don’t get boxing either. Or football. Or soccer. Or hockey. Hmm, I’m catching a theme here.

I hope I am not dating myself here….but how about Jimmy “the superfly” Snuka. This was a while back, kids.
This makes me feel kinda old going back this far in my memory, but I like Hacksaw Jim Duggun…and was in ‘love’ with the VonEricks and ‘the claw’ move they had LOL
Jake the Snake was my favorite – maybe it was just the big reptile that intrigued me. strange.
Our three boys are into StarWars right now. Imaginary lightsaber fights occur routinely. What is interesting is that they never seen a StarWars movie until… tonight (thank you “Aunt” Natalia). All three are sleeping on my floor as I write this… the movie caused some fear. Maybe thats not a bad thing, and they can back off the fighting
Hope to get together our families together one day.
Susan
My favorite wrestler was Bret “the Hitman” Hart, and Sting was a close second. It’s all about the early 90′s for me. Of course, that’s when my bro’s and I were about the same age as your sons!
When I was 7 it was Hulk Hogan. When I turned 20 it was Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Then something happened. Either wrestling changed or I changed. I think a little of both.
Back in the day it was about good guy vs bad guy. Now it is about stuff I have to bounce my eyes off of so I just don’t watch it anymore.
Just in case you didn’t know it is not the WWF anymore. They changed their name to WWE and I think that was because the World Wildlife Fund was threatening to sue.
PS: I just recalled that Shawn Michaels is now my favorite though I no longer watch. When he was young his character was flamboyant. After an almost career ending injury he became a Christian. He has made that known to people he works with. I respect more now than I did in the past.
.-= David Knapp´s last blog ..Wicked Web =-.
@Codyvilla, Bret “the hitma” hart. Yep, he was a goodie.
Ric Flair is THE MAN!! WHHOOOOO!!!! And I know Ted Debiase “The Million Dollar Man”. Look him up, he is connected with Tommy Barnette out in Phnx. AZ Yep, I AM STILL A WWE FAN (Not WWF As Pete wrongly worded) LOLOL
.-= Randy Wood´s last blog ..Positive Thinking? =-.
I love the new wrestlers, like my favorite John Cena, but there will always be a place in my heart for the Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels. By far, the greatest of all time.
George the Animal Steele was always entertaining, but the “Ultimate Warrior” was my favorite. Followed by Jake the Snake. Never research how your favorites are doing now… sad sad stories.

When I was young, I used to cry when wrestling was on TV. My mom would have to explain to my sensitive little girl self that it wasn’t real. I now am a mother to three boys who wrestle constantly and now I still find myself wanting to cry over wrestling!
My favorite wrestler…my own 3 boys! When they were small, they would put on tighty whities and give themselves sumo-style wedgies and wrestle for hours! It was so much fun to watch! Now they are 16, 19 and 21 and still love to wrestle each other. I love it that they enjoy each other as friends as well as brothers.
The pics from the early days are priceless and great for blackmail!
Okay…I have to join in on this conversation. I grew up with 3 brothers (until the little sis came along)…the age difference between me and my oldest brother is 6 years…so as a kid we wrestled all the time. We even broke my bed at one point in time.
My wrestler of choice….Tommy “Wildfire” Rich….

@Jen, So I guess it’s never going to end huh?
My favorite wrestler was Randy “Macho Man” Savage as well. I still have a hard time forgiving him for doing the “Slim Jim” commercials…
On a side note, Does your homeowners insurance cover injury to visitors incurred from jumping off the top rope or doing an elbow drop? LOL!!!
I can’t wait for these days, as I have a 2 1/2 yr. old son, yikes!
Hulk Holgan for me! My brother, dad, and I saw it live once and my dad said he would throw me in the ring with Jake the Snake! of course he was kidding but I was so scared!
Ha! thanks for the laugh at that memory this morning.

@Pete, no and that is one of the best parts!
I am feeling the love today. When Mike and I got married 10 yrs ago not only did he bring amazing kids but boxes of wrestling videos, wrestling dolls, a ring and all, then I quickly learned that shows like ER and Ex home makeover were preempted because wrestling was on. I thought to myself, I can do Football, but wrestling! holy heck! I learned all the characters as to try to fit in. yikes. I knew who Big Poppa Pump was, and I could holla! I knew who Edge, Christian and Mankind were, I was scared of the guy with the mask and didn’t get the whole girl wrestler thing… but my fam did. Did you know that if you have satelite its on 5-6 days a week? Even the old 80s is on… that’s why we have two tvs. If I had to chose I would say I liked The Rock in his day, and Kevn Nash.

Jimmy “supafly” Snuka or the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes both were enjoyable to watch.

When I was 4 years old my dad took my much older bro and sis to a WWF match in West Virginia. He also took me …with my face painted like the Ultimate Warrior. Needless to say when they showed me on TV mom was recording the whole thing on VHS tape. Now that is forever sealed in time.
ULTIMATE WARRIOR for Life!
Yeah, there’s a lot of wrestling going on in my house. I’ve 2 boys, one girl and there’s a chance my little girl (she’s the youngest) is the best wrestler of the bunch.

I never liked wrestling but my mother owns a meat and three in Cumberland City that has been around for 25 years and Hulk Hogan and the Macho Man as well as lesser known people would eat with her a couple times each year
Anna-My parents treated me to a wrestling event in WV as well, with my face painted like Sting (neon color days).
I had the Ultimate Warrior on my 10th birthday cake, but I have to say Sting always had my heart. Next up was Shawn Michaels. I love all the wrestling nerds in this comments section!
