This is Why We Don’t Play Cricket in the U.S.

Here was my one and only attempt at cricket. There’s a reason we don’t have church cricket leagues (for you rednecks this would be crick-it).  Spence and I got spanked at the sport! Before you make fun of me please keep in mind it was almost 120 degrees (India is having a heat wave and it’s hotter than it’s been in 29 years).

Honestly, what sport are you horrible at? Fess up.

volleyball. i had never really played, and when I joined our church team [Catholic] when I was in college I was so bad they traded me to the Lutherans.

i’d like it to be known, however, that with me on their team, the Lutherans won [despite me]. and if nothing else i kept things lively. :)

The only sport I ever participated in/was any good at was swimming. Otherwise, I have zero athletic skill. :) Great video! Praying for you guys!

Oh I suck at basketball, billiards, bowling, football. I rock all the others! ;) Except darts but that’s not a sport. I was waiting for you to point to your field. I guess they don’t do that in criquet.

I’m glad Spence can swim and cycle becasue those swings were painful to watch. I’m not sure you guys can write that off to it being 800 degrees outside!

    Keep up the great work.

I listened to the BBC for years and despite hearing hours of commentary about Cricket, I still have NO clue how it’s played.

What sport do I stink at? Hmmm…I LOVE sports and I’m over the top competitive – so I loathe bowling and throwing a frisbee – because I am utterly incompetent at both.

I am horrible at golf.. but I keep trying because there is something insane about chasing a white ball around acres and acres of green grass trying to put it in a hole.

Pete, you guys keep up the good work you are doing there. You guys are on our hearts and in our prayers.

Surfing. I tried learning to surf when I was 16, and kept at it for several years. I just couldn’t get the hang of going from lying flat on the board to jumping to my feet in one second. My upper body just wasn’t very strong. But all of the body boarding I ended up doing while trying was fun.

    Praying for all of you.

I am a complete and total badminton failure. Pretty much anything involving a racket, which is kind of odd since I played volleyball (fairly well) and I don’t think there’s much of a difference between hitting something with a racket and my hand…
No matter, it’s ridiculous. I practice my “encouraging” now instead of embarrassing myself :)

I would like to say for the record Spence did hit the ball very well. I just didn’t happen to get any of those times on video!

  32. Rebecca April 28, 2009 at 4:24 am #

I am rubbish at rounders which I think is the likewise to baseball over here in England. I cannot hit ther ball, run for the ball or even orientate myself to which post to run too…no wonder they they pick me for sports day :( lol.

The one and only time I played cricket…the kids were using a harder ball, and after they let me get a few hits, they started throwing harder. Got hit right in the butt…I resisted the urge to charge the mound!!

Great video–still praying for you guys!

Just be sure to post the video of you and your team landing on the mat with Phil saying, “your team number 1 and not only are you team number one, but you’ve also won a free trip to…”

My sport…volleyball, although, I sitll have a torn ACL and Meniscus, I haven’t had the time to have surgery, 5 kids keep me to busy to take care of myself.

    Take care,

I used to be, or at least thought I was, pretty good at softball. The last time I played however it was as if the size of the ball the weight of the bat and the distance between all the bases were all different so I no believe I stink at softball. Just like you and Spence do at Cricket. :-0

FYI, I don’t think your game would improve that much at 72 degrees, sorry.

Ping Pong. I used to play it in Italy, and as often as I’d play, I would consistently
end up with 10 points or less.

It didn’t help that all Italians are the Michael Phelps of ping pong, but that’s beside the point!

hmmm….I am blessed with an incredible amount of hand eye coordination so I do well in many sports…unfortunately size was never good for me so outside of a short lived tennis career I could not utilize it for money.
If there was one sport I was really bad at however, I would say swimming…I can swim ok but could never get where I needed to go very fast.

In regards to this post…I’m better at watching sports than the actual playing but if I have to choose let me just say I will never wear skis again.

And, what’s up with a game that can last more than a day? I’m an American living in the UK and after 6 years here we still don’t quite understand the game of cricket.

What a funny video. When I spent two weeks in India at a hospital in August, we had a “cable TV” in the room at our lodge. My American roommate and I were excited the first night when we “channel surfed” and came upon ESPN. We did a “high five” and a cheer….only to find out that ESPN in India is more like the “Cricket Network”.

Despite watching it almost every night for two weeks, I still have absolutely no understanding of the sport.
