Our First Cross Point Rap
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy working with our creative team at Cross Point. They stretch me, challenge me, encourage me and inspire me in so many different ways. They work extremely hard to find ways to creatively communicate the life changing Gospel of Christ.
This past Sunday we launched our new series entitled Hope Now. Here is a video of the song they pulled off which included our first rap. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, though I’m still a little bitter they let Vega do the rap instead of me.
Just curious. What style of music would you say you listen to most often?
I’m more of a pop guy although I’ll admit I’ve been on a country streak this week.

[...] Our First Cross Point Rap – Using Coldplay’s “Lost”… Cross Point rocked the awesome with a rap in the middle of the song. I was wondering when a church would use this song in worship! [...]

I love the subtle “LOST” text… I’m sorry, maybe I am obsessed, but everytime I saw that Sunday I thought of Jack, Kate, Locke and the gang.

I listen to pretty much all types of music. I’m more led by the specific song or artist, but my ipod definitely has an interesting group of songs on any given day.

@DubHow, you watch too much t.v.
I’m a country girl… I actually blame that on the 7 years I lived in New York City with no country radio stations. And of course you just can’t beat that 80′s rock!
Even though I write country, I must say that I still enjoy Coldplay more than anything. I guess that would be rock of some sort? I don’t know…sounds awesome though! Totally dig Damion Rice, Selah, and I love jazz and bluegress…man, guess I’m pretty spread out on this musical genre thing.

I go through phases. I can’t stop listening to Nickleback’s Dark Horse, Taylor Swift’s Fearless, and the Mamma Mia soundtrack, right now.

I’m more of a country girl at heart…but old school, Charley Pride, George Jones, George Strait, Garth Brooks and you can’t beat Reba!!!
I also enjoy Audio A, Jars of Clay, Mercy Me, Casting Crowns…the list could go on and on!!!
I love the video…the rap was awesome!!!
bluegoose’s last blog post..My Nephew
@Sarah, I like your selection!
I enjoy a lot of different types of music. For me it all depends on the message and what the song is saying rather than the type of music or the artist.
But mostly I listen to our Christian radio station, I’m on a big Casting Crowns kick right now. And I’m also a country girl at heart!

I am a worship music junkie….I lean most towards contemporary/heavier rock (and I have pics of the 80s HUGE hair to prove it)…..my playlist over at my blog has some of my faves right now…..Third Day, Casting Crowns, toss in some TobyMac, Skillet, Kutless, Newsboys, BarlowGirl and it wouldn’t be complete without David Crowder.
and I think I need a bag on my head too, as I am a LOSTaholic and thought about the show too with that video. Cool tune, btw….my oldest son would love that Jesus rappin’

I listen to many genres of music. I do have some prerequisites though. 1) I have to be able to understand the words. 2) And the message of the song hs to be agreeable.
I listen to a lot of faith based music but I have been listening to some country this week.
Vern Gosdin – Chiseled in Stone gets me right here {points to heart or at least where he thinks his heart is. Wife has said on a number of occasions that he is heartless. So it is debatable.}
Charlie Rich – Behind Closed Doors – {Heard this the other morning and celebrated that my wife is a ‘lady just like a lady should be’}
Ehhh.. I could go on and on.
Right now I am listening to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss on ‘Raising Sand’ CD.
While I usually detest head banger music because I can’t understand what they are saying, a young man introduced me to the music of Disciple and I could understand them and liked their message… at least on the songs that I heard. I can’t take a whole lot of that but its not so detestable now

Impressive rapping!
I listen to a WIDE variety of things. For awhile I was planning to be a music teacher, so I listen to a lot of classical when I’m studying or need to relax. When I’m in the car I listen to Christian radio.
Right now I’m loving a random mix of Gospel songs and Dave Barnes

I loved the idea and the rap. However during the singing section the lyrics were projected on the screen, but during the rap I wish the lyrics would also have been projected because I had a hard time understanding them.
The song was amazing Vega did a great job. I listen to anything and everything. People think my Ipod is crazy

My computer is messing up and not allowing me to watch the entire song, Grrr, but it sounded great from zero until around 1:30. I’ll try listening again later.
My favorite style of music is probably described as pop/rock, although I also have been listening to a lot of country lately. I like a variety of styles.
I didn’t think I’d ever like rap until I heard Mat Kearney. He’s a fave. Although, I don’t think he likes calling what he sings rap.

@Chris, I can rock those as well.
@DubHow, don’t worry, I thought the same thing watching the video.
I listen to all different kinds of music. I have everything from Classical to Rap in my playlists. But usually I find myself listening to Pop.
Awesome video, btw

Pete, I think I should admit I’ve ordered music from as far away as New Zealand (before iTunes), my tastes are vast and varried, and downright odd at times.

I can’t think of a bad song of his that doesn’t get turned up to volume 33 in the mini van!
Peace out…

Very COOL. Loved it. Funny to think of Christian rap coming out of Tennessee. Sort of expected it to have a little bit of country slang to it, lol. Great Job!

I’m a country or hiphop guy. I know… Anyway, loving some Christian rap right now, Lecrae and Trip Lee.

Primarily pop, rock and particularly southern rock. I actually listen mostly to worship music. When music is what you do for a living sometimes what I want is just quiet or it all begins to feel like work……

@Mac Lake – GRITS are from Nashville and Lacrae is from Memphis. Don’t get much more Christian or Tennessee than that.

I love this…wish I could have seen it in person because I am sure the video does NOT do justice.
I listen to just about every type of music but really you are going to find me pulled more towards things like things iwth a really great beat…mostly hip hop, rap and things like that.
I should tell you it can drive Heath crazy because he is a country, bluegrass kind of guy!

fa-shizzle Pete-daddy!
I like just about anything on the radio and go through phases of listening to it all. About the only song that drives me nuts is “You Light Up My Life”. Other than that, crank it up.
I agree with Michael – U2 Baby
Peace Out – H
I wish they would have let you rap too, Pete. I would then use that footage to launch my newest blog, “Stuff White People Should Never Do”.
Tony York – Robert Plant & Allison Krauss: good stuff!

Great music. Genre is, has been, and will always be trancended by greatness.
Loved it! Rap is an art that if done poorly is quite scary.
Agree with Bill on the music. I like most of it as long as its done well.

This was seriously ridiculous! That whole Coldplay album is by far my favorite album of all time! (yes… it even ranks above NKOTB…
I’ve always wondered what it would be like to have that song played in a worship service. Thanks for doing this! The rap lyrics were tight as well. I always love it when two different styles of music intersect and work well together. (Coldplay’s performance of this at the Grammy’s was amazing with Jay-Z too)!
Really great work… I wish my church had a band that could pull this off as flawlessly as those guys did.
Graham’s last blog post..Breakfast with Pastor Tom
You guys are getting more creative all the time. Most churches would be content to just take that awesome Coldplay song and merely reproduce it word-for-word and note-for-note. While there is nothing wrong with that, I love seeing churches who use their God-given creativity to take a song and make it their own, add their own arrangements and style. Big time props to your team.

Pete, that was awesome! I like all kinds of music. But I have to laugh when I think about this type of performance taking place at my church – people would have heart attacks! Here’s what I liked about that rap, though: I could understand what he was saying. AND, with the mellow chorus running underneath it, the words he spoke really stood out. Loved it.

Indie Folk/Pop/Rock and Electro. I’m from Memphis, so I’m trying to ween myself off gangster rap, but I LOVE some Yo Gotti too.
Most of it is very, very negative though. So hard to kick.
since I got back from watching Dave Matthews Band in Raleigh, NC last night im going to have to go with Jam Bands (DMB & OAR) and then Folk (Jon Foreman, Amos Lee, Iron and Wine, Joshua Radin) and some Keith Urban
