**UPDATED POST**
I’m continually amazed at some of the ministry which takes place here on Without Wax. I love getting your emails, responding to your comments, and learning how I can pray for you guys.
I got this email the other day from a regular reader of the blog and it’s just been dominating my mind. Sometimes I almost feel overwhelmed with the amount of pain out there so with her permission I’m going to share it with you guys. I would love for you to join me in praying for someone in our own community who is really struggling these days.
Pete,
I’m an alcoholic. I’m drunk right now and I don’t know how to let Him heal me from this. I’ve been dealing with it for 13 years (I’m 26). I just can’t stop. Why is this happening? Why can’t I stop? I’ve tried AA. I can’t stop. Just pray that the devil would release and that God would do it. Just let me stop drinking. I know He can and He will. Just make it stop…just make it stop. Please pray. I’m desperate. And on my knees…..and I can’t stop. My job kills me. The only way I know to escape is by drinking. That’s all I’ve ever known. Please please intercede on my behalf. I want to stop. Help me. I feel bad because you have your own problems but I covet your prayers. Please…..I’m broken and desperate
I’m praying this young lady will discover this Easter season that through His death and resurrection Christ not only set us free from the PENALTY of our sin, but He set us free from the POWER of sin.
Will you join me in praying for her today?
This is an email I received from the young lady late last night. Just wanted you to see how your prayers are impacting her. Please Continue to pray for her journey toward freedom.
I have spent the last 3 hours alone with my God. I have not had a drink in officially 24 hours. I have not had a desire for a drink since this morning. I believe that your post today allowed me to allow God to come in and fill the empty spaces I’ve been filling with alcohol and depression. I laid flat on my face today and told God what He already knew. That I am His child, His creation and that the only way through life is to be continually perfected by His Grace. I believe that He is my Healer.
The power that I felt (and still feel) surrounded by when I sat down and read all the comments was like nothing I’ve felt in my life. They were the prayers of your readers but the words were from Jesus Himself. He wants me to be freed from these chains. And I felt them physically fall from my body tonight. I felt this hold that has gripped my heart for 13 years fall away. It has been replaced by the hold of a Savior I have been missing and desiring and crying out to. And tonight, I cried out to Him and I know He heard me. I got up from the floor and opened my Bible from years ago and saw the story of a dead girl and a sick woman in Mark 5. She touched his clothes and the bleeding stopped. And He said to her the words I have wanted to believe for so long: “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and BE FREED from your suffering.”. I believe those words were to all of us but tonight-they felt like they were written just for me.
Am I healed? Absolutely. Is this battle over? Far from. I cannot grasp what has happened today nor can I begin to fathom the road ahead of me. I can guarantee this: it will be filled with prayer, meetings, prayer, struggles, prayer, triumphs, prayer, anger, prayer, praise, and prayer.
The attachment is a painting I did while talking to God. Its not ‘good’ by any stretch of the imagination. But it was my conversation with God. And it’s perfect in His eyes.. The small print in black are the words to the song “Healer” repeated over and over until I understood it.
Please thank your readers (and share any of this email you want). I wish to remain in their prayers as my battle is just beginning. I honestly cannot find the words to thank them for praying on my behalf.
My faith has healed me. I go in peace having been freed from my suffering because I am His daughter.

Our prayers are going out strongly to her!
DEFINITELY will pray!!!
My sister experienced the same, and almost didn’t make it through one night where we ended up in Stanford for an attempted unthinkable act – 15 years of alcoholism and clean now for 8. I know she would be happy to help and pray for this young woman as well.

To this young woman…will definitely keep you in prayer. My heart goes out to you in the midst of your struggle. As a child who grew up in an alcoholic home, and who had to fight his own battles against it, I know how hard it can be. God can and will get you through this! Don’t give up! Your brothers and sisters in the faith will stand with you, so that you never stand alone. I know that’s a bit cliché, but it’s true. Never, EVER let the enemy convince you that you have to do this alone. You don’t. Ever. Blessings, sister, wherever and whoever you may be.
Absolutely!

Praying with tears for her pain
I will certainly be praying for her. Being raised by parents who were both alcoholics I completely understand, since I am ‘afraid’ alcohol would easily overcome me if I allow it.
This is something I read this morning and shared it already with Angie (your friend and her family) and with Jennifer (Stellan’s Mom). I pray this would be of some help to this young lady today as well:
From “Daily Help” by Rev. Charles H. Spurgeon for April 7:
I will help thee. That is very little for me to do, to help thee. Consider what I have done already. What! not help thee? Why, I bought thee with my blood. What! not help thee? I have died for thee; and if I have done the greater, will I not do the less? Help thee, my beloved! It is the least thing I will ever do for thee. I have done more, and I will do more. Before the day-star first began to shine I chose thee. “I will help thee.” I made the covenant for thee, and exercised all the wisdom of my eternal mind in the plan of salvation. “I will help thee.”
Praying without ceasing,

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9a)
To the young woman who may be reading these remarks:
There was a point in my life when I was dealing with depression. I was completely overwhelmed and saw no way out of the corner that I had backed myself into. I remember being on the floor – desperate. Simply desperate. As a last resort, I cried out to God, “You have GOT to take this away from me. I cannot do by myself anymore!”
And He did…and I don’t anymore.
You are in my prayers, and you are never alone.

Praying as well
Just now prayed. How amazing that she was able to confess her pain and desperation to you. Many believers will not. Praise God for her recognizing and acting on her first step. Can’t wait to hear her testimony of freedom.
You guys are amazing. Thanks to those of you “going first” so she realizes she’s not alone in her struggles.
Praying– I see this so much in my age group now- I am 31, and have seen so many of my friends go down this path alone or with others. I was lucky, I saw were it lead and turned back to “the light” I guess you could call it.
Wanting to escape is a all to common of a reason for all addictions. It can be drinking, drugs, sleeping, isolation, shopping, or focusing on one sole activity. The concept of “getting better” is learning to cope with the many levels of what life is about and has to offer. And it is all about practice- practice being a good person, getting better at life, and practice staying sober.
Hugs to you young lady and I pray you will find it is what you need for strength.

Praying for her Pete. If you are reading this, please know that God can and WILL help you, just keep asking. It’s been over a year since my last drink. I was sitting in a shot out downtown hotel in Las Vegas when I called out to Him and He answered me. He took the obsession and compulsion away from me almost immediately. I know that it doesn’t work like that for everyone and I’ve had to do things since then to maintain my sobriety. I couldn’t stop either, and I wanted to so badly. Just keep asking and maybe try that AA thing again. I’ve seen it work for so many people. Oh, there’s a Christian program called Celebrate Recovery that you might like better than AA. God bless you whatever you do, I’m praying for ya!

To the young lady,
I don’t know you but God does. He loves you and He knows what you are going through. He knows the deepness of the pain, darkness, and loneliness that you are experiencing. He heard your cry before you ever voiced it. You are never too far away from His ability to reach into your life and change things around because He is the perfect Father.
To Pete and all prayer partners,
Last night I sat with a woman, her husband, and some of her friends. She came to our church seeking prayer for healing. She has been diagnosed with ALS which has no cure. Those of us that had gathered to pray that evening, prayed that God would work His will in her life in a way that bring Glory to Him. I would ask you to remember her today as well.

Lord Jesus, may this sweet daughter of yours know she is worthy to receive your complete healing and freedom from the addiction that is preventing her from fulfilling the destiny You have planned for her. May she confess any doubt or distrust of Your awesome power and love. May she embrace your unfailing love and declare her complete trust in You. Lord, draw her near and comfort her, protect her, provide Godly fellowship and encouragement for her. Thank you, Father God, for what You are doing in this young woman’s life as well as through this blog site. In Your son’s name. Amen

I’m praying for you for sure! If your job is killing you I will pray for that too! Keep looking- maybe this is God leading you on a new path to a completely different life. I was in a dead-end job about a year ago that made me very angry and pessimistic to the point I was just plain depressed. I was laid off right around my tipping point and that is the greatest thing that could have ever happened. It took 4 months but with God’s help I survived and found a job I actually enjoy and a new state to live in (TN). . . not to mention Cross Point! I don’t know if you go to Cross Point, but wherever you may attend, a lot of churches have Recovery groups (not specific to any specific addition) and maybe having that supportive community would be beneficial? Just an idea! You will be healed!

Wow. Totally broken by this email…for a number of reasons. Young lady, I’ve personally seen God completely deliver people from all sorts of addictions…from alcohol, to heroin, to pornography. Don’t give up! He is with you and loves you in a way that is beyond understanding.
I would like to read this email to the church this Sunday, if that is OK. One of the main points for this Easter service is if God is able to raise His Son from the dead, then He can restore lives no matter the circumstances. The complete openness and raw emotion of this letter will really hit home with a lot of people I believe God will be sending this week.

I am praying for you, sweet sister. Not only that you will be released from this, but that you will be able to physically feel the arms of Christ wrapped tightly around you in love and protection. Praying that you will have the knowledge that you are NOT alone, even though you may FEEL alone. Sister, you CAN do ALL things through Christ who WILL strengthen you.
I am also praying for anyone who may be struggling as you are, who did not have the courage to ask for help as you have. That they may read these words and understand that God has promised to help them too, if they will just receive it.
God is so much bigger than any worldy addiction.
I’m adding her to my prayer list. She is about to experience the love of God in a powerful chain breaking way. Thanks for facilitating such an awesome community on your site.

Father, this beautiful young woman is crying out to you for release from this enemy addiction. Please restore her. Heal her. Help her receive only truth into her mind and heart. When anyone or anything, physical or spiritual tries to speak lies to her, I ask you to confuse that into oblivion.
Dear Young Lady,
You are a precious woman who is caught up in something you can’t fight alone. You’ve realized that, and that is half your battle. Now you have these people and others lifting you to the only One who can grant you true healing and comfort. Now you have a support group right here. Please hear me: you are not your addiction. You are precious in God’s sight. He died for you. You. He is crazy in love with Y-O-U. That does not change. Ever. Never ever. No matter what you’ve been told.
As others have done, if you need a shoulder, a listening ear, a prayer, email me: rfbryant@comcast.net

Pete, I don’t know what the best way to do this is, but I know that there are MANY wonderful Christ centered treatment programs and support groups all around our great Nation. I was wondering if anyone knew of a website that she, and anyone else struggling with this, might be able to access to find a group in her/their area?
my healing story is very similar to Katdish…
same thing…on the floor, crying out. decided i could no longer live with myself the way i was. the pain, the shame, the guilt, the depression…i was done white knuckling it and physically threw it at the foot of the cross, right where i was – lowly, face down, totally broken. it was a transforming moment in my life…and i have never been the same.
im prayin that for you today…that you would get there too. Hes already there sister.

Pete, So many of our people struggle quietly with their pain. Thank God this young woman has asked for help. There are two organizations that I would like to recommend to people dealing with addictions – The Ranch, info@recoveryranch.com 800-849-5969 and New Life Lodge, newlifelodge.com 800-365-3899. Both are in Tennessee.
Pete, I appreciate your concern for this woman. She needs our prayers, support and understanding.
Sweet child – I’m praying for you right now. Right here. Know this, God is with you. As you walk through this addiction, God is with you. As you struggle to find peace, God is with you.
God is with you. You’ve tried AA, have you considered an inpatient facility? Sometimes we need a little more help than AA has to offer. Sometimes God brings us to a complete healing through the gifts and ministry of others. If you will email me at MarySnydr AT aol dot com, I’ll be glad to research facilities in your area. Faith based organizations that give you the tools you need to battle this addiction.
You’ve taken a big step — not take another. Reach out to a brother or sister in Christ and ask for help. We’re here and we’re willing.

Praying so hard for you, precious girl. Someone dear to me was in the throes of a terrible addiction that brought her down spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. I prayed so hard for her pain to cease. I can still so clearly hear the words she spoke to me one day. “I will never be rid of this burden. It will be with me all my life. And even if it’s gone, I’ll still have the scars and will be reminded of the pain every day. I just want to die.”
Ouch.
She’s great now, as great as any of us can be as His broken children who need Him. But only with the help of her brothers and sisters in Christ, the grace of God, and her deepening faith. God’s people want to help and show you His power. He is bigger than your addiction. So many have been where you are in one way or another. I pray you will receive God’s grace and healing very soon.

I am praying for you right now. Here are some words to a song I have sung for years:
“You don’t have to be anywhere near perfect
You don’t ever have to prove a thing
You are loved, you are loved so far beyond your imagaing.
God Loves you, and He wants you to know He is with you…you are not along. He will see you through…God Loves YOU!”
Because my husband is a recovering alcholic, I do suggest reaching out to the lady who offered to find an inpatient facility in your area. That detox and inpatient to get clean…then find a long-term (3-6 months) treatment program. Also, we are currently involved in Celebrate Recovery…it can help you so much more than AA because it is Christ-centered.
I can’t wait for the message from you about God’s healing in your life.

My heart is hurting for her right now. I am praying that God will help you gain the strength you need to overcome your addiction and the perseverance to remain sober. I pray that you feel his presence surrounding you when you feel the urge to drink and I pray that you are able to recognize His voice when He warns you about about situations that will tempt you to drink.
I am asking all of these thing in the name of our dear Savior Jesus Christ
Please look into reading a book by Beth Moore called ‘Breaking Free’ it deals with strongholds of any type, I know several people who have read the book or done the study or both while dealing with addictions and it had an amazing impact on them.
I will be praying!
You got this girl, it’ll be okay.
My sister, you don’t have to battle this alone. I’d love to meet you and see if I can be an extra friend to help encourage you. I hope you take the others up on their offers as well. Let people surround you and walk life with you. Denapar@yahoo.com
To the young lady-
I have struggled with alcoholism and addiction for several years. I have now been sober for over 13 months. I am now 29 years old and have been right where you are. I know several young women in the program of recovery who have been where you are and are waiting to help. If you need to talk or meet some of these women please let me know.

I’ve been here! God, how I wish that I could say I haven’t! I lost my mom, and her death swallowed me whole. This was my sweet escape or so I thought!! Keep reaching out girl!
Stay strong and know you are not alone!
I am so proud of you for reaching out for help. It took a ton of courage for you to do so.
I can’t imagine the pain you are going through right now. I have never fought an addiction. However, last year at college, I went through a dark year (was surrounded by non-christians and got involved in the party scene). I denied my faith and eventually became broken. I felt like I had no purpose in life and became severly depressed. Some days I just wanted to end it all.
In August, I decided to take a year off of school and come to Nashville to live with family (I’m from Canada!) because I needed to get out of that environment.
I started seeing a christian counsellor who I have been going to now for approximately 7 months. She is an amazing Godly woman who has helped in working out issues and also has influenced my walk with the Lord. Her name is Kyna Moore and if you want contact information it is posted on her website: http://www.kynamoore.com.
God has blessed me with a loving family, a great counselor, an awesome pastor and church and with His grace and forgiveness. It is with all of this that I feel I have been completely transformed and made new.
He does this for anyone who not only asks of Him but also believes that He can and will make everything better. Jesus will never leave you, He loves you more than you can imagine. It breaks His heart to see you hurting. For He says, “Ask, and it will be given to you; Seek, and you will find it”. Don’t give up! For the Lord hears your cries and is right beside you ready to comfort you. He is the ULTIMATE healer and He WILL heal you!
I am praying for you. That you will be blessed with healing, that you will find a great treatment plan and trust in the Lord; and that you will continually be surrounded by Godly people who will lift you up and encourage you. I also pray that Satan will release you! Remember that you can never do anything to make God not love you…no matter how bad it is!
We are all here for you! We love you and God loves you!
Pete, thanks!
Maralee
I am praying. I have witnessed first hand how God can deliver His children from the pit. Jesus come quickly to this one, Father surround her in your love and guide her steps, the word says you draw near to those that draw near to you, Father she is coming close on her knees. In Jesus name Amen.

I am praying “without ceasing” for Heather!
Yes, I’m praying.
As I read that, I just felt like there is maybe a feeling of being trapped. I pray if that is the case, God would give release.
As well as that an ability to trust God. Trust God to provide even if it means leaving the job that is ‘killing you’ if that is going to hinder this woman from being fully healed and restored. Trust God that He will not leave in those times of hurting, pain, temptation and guide you through. Trust God when it doesn’t make sense because He sees the bigger picture and wants the very best for you.
Pray that you’ll have an amazing crowd of supporters encouraging you, keeping you going as you head towards that goal, escaping towards an embrace with your Heavenly Daddy.
If any of that is irrelevant or unhelpful, please ignore it, and I ask for your grace…with all advise or words hold on to what is good, and reject what is bad…
Peace be with you sister. Praying, praying, praying…

I get so emotional reading through these comments. Man I love the compassion you guys show here daily.
Be strong and have faith… although you may feel alone…. know in your heart that you’re not.
I just re-read this devotional, and realized how much it applies to everything we do. It’s taken from a devotional by Max Lucado. (Pete, I hope you don’t mind the length, feel free to edit as you wish.)
In the economy of heaven, the prayers of saints are a valued commodity. John the apostle would agree. He wrote the story of Lazarus and was careful to show the sequence: The healing began when the request was made.
The phrase the friend of Lazarus used is worth noting. When he told Jesus of the illness, he said, “The one you love is sick.” The power of the prayer, in other words, does not depend on the one who makes the prayer but on the one who hears the prayer.
We can and must repeat the phrase in manifold ways. “The one you love is tired, sad, hungry, lonely, fearful, depressed.” The words of the prayer vary, but the response never changes. The Savior hears the prayer. He silences heaven so he won’t miss a word. The Master heard the request.

The Potter, (Jesus Christ) has the power to make things new. He takes an old vessel and reshapes it, takes out all the impurities and makes it like brand new. Right now he’s doing that with you. Your cry for help has him reaching down into the depths of your soul and is healing you and making you brand new. All things have passed away, behold all things are new.
I’m praying for you dear one. You have a host of prayer warriors interceding on your behalf.
Praise Jesus!!! She will continually be in my prayers and I am sure in the prayers of many others who want to see her continue to win the battle against alcoholism and to continue leaning to God as her Heavenly Father. This is such a wonderful update!
Tiffany’s last blog post..Feeling Inspired
I just cleaned my keyboard with tears after reading the update and comments….I feel so honored to be able to pray for someone and yet I don’t do it enough.
praying…..
Wow! Amazing – plain and simple. I read this the day you posted the original email but had to be somewhere and didn’t have the time to post any comment right then. I came back today to add my comments to the long list of those also praying for her. And I am greeted with an update that just absolutely has all but taken my breath away. I had to wait a couple of minutes to be able to read the screen to comment this time. I guess something must have happened to my wirelsss connection cause the monitor got all blurry and fuzzy! : ) Praise God and thank You Jesus! Young lady, know that the same touch, the same strength, the same MIRACLE that took away your desire for alcohol for the 24 hours is yours to rely on and depend on every hour of every day from here on out. Yes, it is just the beginning, but man what a beginning! I join everyone else in continuing to pray God will not allow any desire for alcohol to return. He can AND WILL do it, if you let Him. Praise God for your progress already. Looking forward to more updates.
The power of prayer is amazing!!!
Young lady, you are in my prayers. May God continue to hold you in his arms and give you strength.
@Andy, Well said bro.
This update should not be a surprise to any of us, as it is a manifestation of the amazing, powerful God that we serve. He split the Red Sea in two, stopped the sun, resurrected dried bones, healed lame men, and brought DELIVERANCE to this woman!
And thank you to your reader who was willing to boldly petition the Father, in her time of need. I am praying for you, and rejoicing in the bondages that are being broken in your life!
I read your update, and I truly am just so proud of you! I am so thankful that your desire for alcohol has been broken! The Lord will continue working in you and healing you. He is with you every step of the way, and so are we! Keep going girl!!!!
I will continue praying
