A Tale of Three Boys

So Saturday was opening day at the Ballpark. Jett and Gage both had their first games of the season. If you’re looking for our family any Saturday for the next couple of months you now know where we’ll be.

And in case you don’t make it through all my pictures I would love to know: What’s the first organized sport you ever played?

Our Saturday started with Jett’s game. Jett continues to love baseball more and more. He had a great game playing second base, went 3 for 3, and even got the game ball! Way to go Buddy.

Gage had his first t-ball game ever! Here’s a few pics to show you just how much fun he had. He clearly was more interested in keeping the crowd entertained than he was playing ball. You gotta love this kid.

Then while Gage was playing in the dirt (I mean playing baseball) Brewer went missing. We couldn’t find him anywhere? Panic started to set in until Jett said, “There’s a Brewer on the field”. I looked up to find Brewer heading across the outfield. He had been telling us all day he wanted to play I just didn’t think he meant today! Luckily I had the camera in hand to catch mommy going out for the rescue. Once again….this is why I don’t teach at parenting conferences. :)

T-Ball was my first sport as well. I was at the park Saturday and tried to watch two games at once on two different fields. Running back and forth. Fun Fun Fun.

First sport was T-Ball and I loved it (and loved picking clovers in the outfield and chasing butterflies, and writing my name in the dirt!)

@Heidi, you played organized waterpolo? Wow, I’m not sure I even know such a thing existed.

I, like Gage, played in the dirt during my first and only tee-ball season. In my opinion, the best part of tee-ball was the concession stand after the game!

    I was a cheerleader.

But all 3 of my boys played every sport and these photos bring back great memories for me.

(I once had to get my dog off the field. He sat down at my son’s feet on first base.
I had to DRAG the dog off. He planted his butt and wouldn’t budge- I was so embarrased.
It entertained the crowd of spectaters though.)

I don’t remember if cheerleading or softball came first, but i did both in elementary school.

As for three children playing ball – been there, done that. I actually forgot where I was going one time in between carting them all around……

THIS is what contributes to grey hair!

I love baseball and am so happy that Opening Day is finally here. I never got to play the sport because our family seemed always too busy to make it happen.

My first ‘organized sport’ was wrestling in my freshman year of high school. I had only been exposed to big time ‘wrassling’ on tv before that first day on the practice mats. I did my best impression of Andre the Giant throwing my opponent to the floor. The coach was not impressed. And neither was I after that day because I found out that wrestling was just rolling around on the floor with sweaty jocks….without the big time moves and tv cameras. People think models are weight conscious, they should see what goes on with high school boys in the wrestling program. Another reason that I wasn’t impressed with the sport.

That was my first and only exposure to organized sports until I went to work for a living and joined every organized sport that my company offered… bowling, softball, volleyball, flag football, horseshoes.

Now I golf… poorly. But ain’t it grand to be outside chasing a little white ball with a crooked stick?!

BTW – Brewer looks like a natural left fielder!

Very cute pics! There’s nothing like kids starting out in sports!!! My first sport was softball. I remember the in first league the parents/coaches pitched to us (which was of course my dad). Ohhhh, the memories….enjoy your upcoming Saturdays!

gymnastics–the one and only organized sport that I’ve ever participated in! I did, however, spend a good deal of my life at the baseball fields while my bro was playing and have amazing memories of those days! landed my first job there as a scorekeeper, too!

Awesome pictures! I especially love Gage’s. And with 3 kids, seriously, you’re playing zone not man-on-man anymore. They wander. And its unnerving.

First sport was softball–8 yrs old

    Does Jett’s jersey say “Jett’s pizza”? :)

What’s Teeball? My first team sport was netball – that probably means as much to you U.S. folks as Teeball does to me – it’s a bit like basketball, but is more commonly played by ladies teams, 7 a side.

I also used to ride horses a LOT growing up – does the horse count as a team-mate?!

Ahhh! Great pics, Pete. I miss watching my nephew play ball….

On another note, Mathew 22….whoa! Heavy. Not understanding some things. Can you help me out with the wedding banquet parable?

  17. Pete Wilson April 6, 2009 at 9:52 am #

@Heidi, yes. They are the team sponsors. He’s the only kid that gets to have his first name and last name on his jersey.

Baseball was my first organized sport. Played from 5th grade up to 7th, and then again my freshman year of high school. Had to stop halfway through the season due to a fly ball to the head during practice (you can thank the coach and my poor eye/hand coordination for that one).

Funny stuff and cute kids! Brings back fond memories. I coached little league when my son was young. Half the time the kids in the outfield were too busy to play because they were busy playing catch with their mitts and watching air planes fly over! LOL

  20. Brunettekoala April 6, 2009 at 1:40 pm #

I’ve never ever played organised sport.

Unless swim team counts? I was on the breaststroke team representing my primary school in an Edinburgh Inter-schools competition like….once. I used to go to swimming club back then too.

Mine was Little League as well.

I remember every time we lost our catcher would cry and we lost a lot. I think I started bringing tissues to the games by the end of the season. :-)

    T-ball.
    Then soccer. :D

T-ball was only for a season; soccer was for years. :D

Oh, the answer to the question… unorganized neighborhood sport: ice hockey (up north of course).
    Organized: little league baseball!

  24. Brenda April 6, 2009 at 3:02 pm #

Fun times! Those pictures are so cute! They brought back great memories of when my son played Little League.

When I was growing up way back in the olden days, lol, we didn’t have all the activities that are available for kids like nowadays. So my first organized sport was in high school. I was on the Girls Athletic Association (GAA) in Tennis. I’m so thankful I learned to play and now my husband and I share the love for that sport and hopefully will be able to play together until we’re old geezers.

Great pictures! When I saw your tweet the other day about watching your boys playing baseball I got a little jealous. I hope to one day watch my sons (God willing I have some) play ball. The only difference is they will be playing Fußball because we will be living in Germany.
